Hanaoka

This is probably my favorite sushi place in San Diego. Their happy hour is very good and the prices are pretty decent as well. It seems like it's family owned and run.The sushi is very fresh and the employees are always friendly and fast!I've ate in and had take out as well and have never had any issues.I've been coming here for a few years and the quality of service and food hasn't changed which is good.I highly recommend it but during the week and during happy hour it does get very busy and there is usually a wait.

First time trying out this place. We picked up food to go here. Ordered the following:*Chula Vista RollIn: Krab, Shrimp Tempura, Cream Cheese, Avocado w/ Eel Sauce, Crunchy on top,Sesame, Spicy Mayo*Rainbow Roll (4 or 8pcs)In: Krab, Avocado Top: Tuna, Avocado, Salmon,Albacore, Red Snapper, ShrimpFire*Oyako don(chicken and vegetables, mixed eggs over rice w/ sauce)Served with Miso SoupThe food was okay. The sushi rolls were okay but unfortunately didn't impress me. The Oyako Don was sharable.

The roll boat wasn't good at all- minced/chopped fine salmon and tuna. Should've stuck with sashimi. Server was pushy, kept on asking if we wanted to take the rest of the roll boat home-we didn't! Not coming back ...

We love to come here for sushi. The Crunchy Roll is my favorite. I could only eat that and be very happy.On this fine Friday Night we came and there was a dining wait. Our party was 7th in line to be seated so the wait was 20mins. There is also bar seating for single diners.We ordered the Sushi & Roll Boat, Crunchy Roll, Beef Fried Rice, and Shrimp & Mixed Vegetables Tempura Entree. For drinks I had an Asahi Japanese Beer, my Husband had Hot Green Tea, and my daughter had a Pink Lemonade. Drinks came to our table right away and our food right after that. The boat of sushi was great, with freshly prepared items. The Beef Fried Rice I did not enjoy, but my family liked it. The Miso Soup was great. The Crunchy Roll is my favorite here and it was delicious. Overall, the customer service is always excellent and the staff are always super kind and professional. We will continue to come here. Everyone is treated very well and the sushi is fresh. Arigatou!

Hanaoka gets the job done when it comes to basic Japanese food. They definitely cater to Americans but I can't help but come back because the food is so cheap and they make great catering trays for parties. The service is also always so good! I sincerely hope this staple never closes.

Food was average. We had the bento boxes and the beef teriyaki was tough and the chicken teriyaki was chewy. We also had iced tea in very old plastic glasses. Same as I used here 30 yrs ago! Prices have gone up for lunch! 4 people with iced tea was 90 dollars plus tip. This used to be one of my favorites in the past, but it needs a remodel bad. But the most important thing is good food with good prices, and this was not the case today.

I was craving ramen and decided to try it here. I ordered the beef ramen and asked to add an egg (it doesn't come with it). The broth was delicious and the beef was perfectly cooked. Our waitress was very sweet and kept our drinks filled. She has been with Hanaoka for 20 years and truly enjoys what she's doing.

Came across this restaurant's menu and was enticed by their boat dinner so of course we had to try it! Came around 6:45pm and was seated before 7pm on a Friday night. Due to restaurant layout, if you're a small party of 1 or 2 on a busy night they might seat you at a table with other small party diners, so my party of 2 shared a table with another which did not bother us but is important to note if you wanted a more intimate dining experience. Service was great, our server was very helpful and attentive.The food was delicious, and they were extremely generous with the portion sizes! We tried the Boat Dinner For Two, the sushi combo E, and the tonkatsu ramen. I would say the boat dinner can actually feed around 4 people and their ramen was super flavorful despite being slightly on the salty side. I loved their sushi combo and thought it was a great way to sample rolls without having to commit to just 1 type of roll. All in all this spot has definitely made it into my rotation and I highly recommend it if you're looking for affordable Japanese food in the area with an extensive menu that has something for everyone. I will be coming back to try their other offerings for sure!

The restaurant was clean and well-maintained. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and our server was always smiling. The yakisoba I ordered was delicious, and my wife enjoyed it as well. However, the ramen my wife ordered was salty, which was surprising since this was the first time she had ever mentioned that a ramen was salty. We informed our server about the issue, and they were kind enough to agree when we noted it on the receipt so the cook would be informed. Overall, we had a good experience and would definitely visit again to try other dishes.
