This is my favorite sushi place to exist. While I have never been to Japan to have 100% authentic Japanese sushi, I can't imagine this place being too different. I have never had a bad meal here. The restaurant is so cute and small. Their menu has so many good options, but this sushi is truly outstanding. Some rolls I really love are the Kani roll (crab), spicy scallop, rainbow roll, eel/avo/cucumber, and more. The thing I love most is their tuna and salmon nigiri. It is the absolute best nigiri I have ever had. They taste so fresh and are made with the perfect small amount of rice underneath. My boyfriend and I always like to end with a piece of the tamago nigiri too. They also make homemade ramen here and it is delicious!!!If you are in search of a new sushi place please go try Hanabi! I promise you will not regret it!

I'm a big sushi person and making it a weekly dining experience. With the current times, we have tried to support local businesses by doing carry out. We placed an order through DoorDash for hanabi hoping to enjoy our dinner. The sushi was chewy, had no taste, and the salad was drenched in what you might call dressing. We took two bites and tossed a pizza in the oven. It's difficult to try new places and support local when you have experiences like this.

Without a doubt the BEST sushi you will find in the Chicagoland area. I have scoured countless sushi spots in the suburbs and the city and have yet to find tastier sushi regardless of the price. This small sushi joint located in the corner of the plaza creates top-tier sushi at affordable prices. The sushi features large amounts of fish with a thinner layer of rice, allowing you to taste the high quality fish they use. In the past 7+ years of dining here, I have always had outstanding experiences and continue to be a frequent customer. When you visit, make sure you try the LA roll, Hanabi roll, and negitoro roll. Once you do, you won't be able to look to sushi the same way again.

Moved to buffalo grove in June and this is my first time trying Hanabi tonight. I'll say, I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY by how good their sushi is. It is HIGH QUALITY sushi. The sushi is fresh! It has the perfect texture, tons of flavor, and it's very satisfying. I even have LEFTOVERS! (I never usually have leftovers from any sushi place). The food was done on time. The staff is very polite and friendly. I WILL be taking my business here more and letting my family and co workers know about this establishment! Now my grandfather and I have a new spot for our monthly sushi get together. Prices are very fair for what you get and the portions are amazing. Hanabi has outdone themselves!

I want to agree with most of the negative reviews except one thing: Spicy Mayo in tuna and yellow tail is exceptional! The sushi must be ordered without a complaint or the owner will ban you for life. Spicy mayo sauce is the one secret that Sarah, the owner and Sushi Chef, makes homemade. Its so good in fact, that it might have something illegal in there- lol! It's like no other in the area or anywhere in the world I have ever eaten. I've been in China, Japan, CA., and more. We love that Sushi but the other things in the place make me want to have it as take out only. Carpet needs to be replaced. Seriously, it's dirty and makes your place look the same. In the summer, don't think of going if the front door is cracked open, the place smells like fish as she doesn't have the A/C going. Yuck. Menu's need to be cleaned as they are sticky and nasty. Have been like this for years. Cheap chop sticks once had mold on them. Watch out before using them. Even though all these things are 100% true, the fish is fresh and it's good. You can almost always get in even as the other area sushi places are packed. I suggest take out and you won't be sorry.

We went for the lunch special and the food was quite good. Their Udon Tempura soup is top notch and the Sashimi I ordered was great, I feel they overdid it a bit with the garnish and could have served me just the Sashimi on a plate and I would have been happy. In the past I have had issues with ordering their ice water (it tasted funny, probably their water source) Instead I always order hot green tea which doesn't have the odd taste that their ice water has.The ambience is casual and the service is very fast thanks to an electronic waitstaff call system being used. I have never had issues with waiting too long for a server to come to assist at my table.Prices run slightly higher than average in my opinion however the fishes quality outweighs the slightly above average pricing. My only issue and this one is becoming increasingly common in smaller sushi restaurants is the music choices being played over the PA system. One track it's a Tim McGraw country song and the next is some pop artist I've never heard of. What happened to the simple harps and pianos traditional to a sushi restaurant?ACCESSIBILITY: The restaurant would be wheelchair accessible with assistance from another person with opening the doors, the foyer will be a tight fit in a powered wheelchair but wouldn't be a problem in a manual compact wheelchair. Inside the dining area is large and will accommodate most any mobility device. The telephone number scrolls across a brightly lit large LED display on the front window so if you are dining on your own and require assistance in entering the restaurant surely a quick telephone call inside asking a hostess to come assist with the doors will solve the door issue.During the summer the restaurant offers outside patio seating which is fully accessible even to large mobility devices such as full length tri-wheel scooters.
