One of my favorite spots to go to for special occasions! Grill 23 & Bar has been around for many years now and does not have as much of a modern look as the newer steakhouses in Boston but the food still continues to win me over! I enjoy their fried calamari fra diavolo appetizerc seared scallops, and filet mignon oscar style! Desserts here are also a must. Lots of street parking available around, as well. I still think Grill 23 & Bar is a lot better than many of the newer spots... food quality & taste wise. An Oldie but STILL a goodie!

"The staff made us feel we were THE most important people there"2nd time to Boston and 1st to GRILL 23 for our 33rd Anniversary. It started with Matt, the host. We had Reservations but were told we could have a drink at the Bar 1st or be seated. Totally up to us and with no timeframe. The Night was ours !!!We chose a drink at the bar with Mixologists Kevin & Zach. They conveyed the same message & script for the evening. Following up on our satisfaction, One of our drinks was a little off and they made it right. No worries. Halfway thru the drink we felt guilty not taking our table. Matt seated us right away. Nice table on Lower level in the middle but was very loud on a busy night. Our Server Pat responded and got with Matt who moved us upstairs to a nicer/quieter table. In steps Ryan. He was an exceptional Waiter who guided us through our meal. Ah yes, the Meal. Started with Lobster Bisque...exceptional. We shared the Dry-aged Ribeye with sides. WOW !!! Dessert was on them. Thank you Matt, Kevin, Zach, & Ryan for making our night magical. The best Dining experience we've had and a wonderful way to celebrate 33+ years together. You must go. We can't wait to go back

Food: Great portion with fresh/savory dishes. Calamari was crispy with fried jalapeno that was unstoppable.Salad was fresh but nothing specialSteak: Had dry aged steak and if was very tender and juicy. Not too salty at all and I'd say one of the best steak menu in Boston Staffs were friendly, and the place was bit crowded on first floor but second floor was relatively quiet. Great place for a date spot

This place has that classic American steakhouse feel! The steaks were cooked to perfection and the staff was super attentive. The steaks were so flavorful, I didn't even need the steak sauce. This is a great place for a celebration! The chocolate chip cookie dessert with a scoop of ice cream on top is perfect for those who love warm, soft cookies!

I want to preface with the waitstaff was wonderful and this rating is not a direct reflection of their service. We came for a work outing party of 10 with a reservation. The restaurant was immediately loud and echoey upon entering and throughout the entire place. If you have sensory sensitivities it will be a lot with the open kitchen adding to the noise. We ordered 3 apps, the calamari, the oysters, and the crab cakes. All of the appetizers were wonderful, and for someone that hates crab, those were the best crab cakes I've ever had. The calamari was good but nothing to write home about. I got the chicken and my fiance got the meatloaf. My chicken was seasoned so salty it was difficult to eat. It was also mostly dark meat, which for a $42 chicken dish is kind of disappointing. The stacked potato was overkill, and didn't add much value to the dish. Mashed potatoes would have better countered the saltiness of the chicken. The meatloaf was also unfortunately disappointing for $38. The meatloaf was so incredibly dense it and loaded with rosemary it almost tasted like a chewy pine tree. The chunks of carrots were a bit of an odd addition too. For the price paid for these dishes they need a lot of improvement. The asparagus still seemed to have the tough ends on it and tasted bland. The mashed potatoes were good and the mushrooms were okay. From what we heard from the others the steaks were good. Not much beyond that mentionable.

Came in tonight for dine out Boston and service and quality were still very on point. Our server Tim was very attentive and competent. Very spacious here but always a bit loud because of the high ceilings and large parties around. But despite how busy they are, service never lacks. We got the seafood chowder (halibut), steak, creamed spinach, grill 23 tots with truffle oil. For dessert we got the chocolate cake and sweet Creamsicle (both were very big portions). Both were very good and perfect finish to end of the meal

I'm surprised I haven't written a review before! This review is compiled of over 10+ years of dining at this restaurant so I'll try to keep it short and straight to the point.Grill 23& Bar is our go-to for steak. We like to go here for special occasions but whenever we have a steak-loving friend/ relative that visits we have to take them here. It's busy restaurant for dinner so make sure to make a reservation, especially on the weekends!I always enjoy my experience here. The waiters are friendly, helpful and attentive, the service here is overall great each time. I can't say that about most other places. The very first time I came here was for my birthday in 2013 and our waiter's name was Tom (or TimI think), and during my filet mignon phase he educated me on the best way to enjoy that steak and for leftovers how best to reheat it (since we ordered so many things that night, I was so full that I had to carry home the rest of my steak) and I still carry on the knowledge from that night to this day. They also have a sommelier.Their 100 day Aged Prime Ribeye is what they are known for, which is our go-to along the Fried Calamari Fra Diavolo and sauteed mushrooms. When we're not having the Ribeye we get the Wagyu Bar Burger which you can only get in the bar area.Other items we've tried are:(note: they've refined their menu over the years so some things may not be on the menu anymore)Tuna Tartare - very goodWagyu Steak Tartare Tacos - very good and to shareCrab Cakes - good Greek Salad - goodGrill 23 Tater Tots - sooo good when fresh and hotGrilled Shrimp - goodWagyu Striploin A5 Steak - so good. Worth a trySautéed carrotsMashed potato - always a good go-toBaked potato - was dry when I had itSautéed Spinach - always a good go-toI couldn't post ALL my photos since it only allows 10 and it's over 10 years of photos worth.

Jeez Louise was this spot busy for a Wednesday! Obviously it's good and popular, but the question is: is this a steak house for YOU? You either rock with my other reviews or not, so let me just line out why while everything was lovely, this won't be my preferred steak house. Ambiance is everything. This spot was just too BRIGHT. That's a solid differentiator when it comes to steak houses--are we here for food and service or for vibes? Can I have a mix of both? But the lighting revealed that there were a lot of families, grad school groups, and work groups (like mine) here. But I didn't see any dates. Or many young people not already in the groups I mentioned. Service was impeccable. We arrived too early--no problem. We ordered esoteric cocktails--the bar knocked it out of the park. We ordered way too many sides and apps--they all arrived within a minute of each other and didn't keep us waiting. Kudos to the kitchen and service staff for that coordination. While the spot was packed on both floors, it wasn't too loud at all, in my opinion. Whether it was all the guests knowing how to act or just great acoustics, I appreciated it. The food was so good. A perfectly cooked steak that only needed a bit of salt and pepper to reach its full potential, some Mac and cheese that was a little Lightskinned but still full of flavor, spinach that might've needed a bit more seasoning, and the biggest damn shrimp I've ever seen not to be listed as "prawns"; my team at like kings and that's just the dishes I actually ordered. The fries lacked character but that was my manager's issue. I don't do Hollondaise so the asparagus was a no for me, as well. I also wasn't hungry even 8 hours later so time and money well spent. When it's time to be romantic or show friends the city, I will need to find another spot, though.

Great atmosphere, service was spot on. The food was incredible! We started with the steak tartare and was by far the best I've had. MyHusband had the steak frites which he ranted and raved about. I had the chicken which was delightful. The drinks were superb and served in record time. My clumsy self accidentally spilled a glass of wine while I was assisting in cleaning off the table and our service quickly replaced with a new glass of wine. Highly recommend and cannot wait to return!

This restaurant is massive! It feels like they can accommodate walk ins with the size. The food, service and environment were wonderful! I enjoyed my filet and the sides were great also! I'd recommend if you want to go to a nicer steakhouse in the area!
