More people need to experience this gem! Super super tender tenders ;) The tenders are bigger too. The collards are perfection, but you cannot miss out on the fried Okra, which will ruin having it again from anywhere else. The medium heat on the tenders seemed milder to me than medium at similar places, and flavor you can enjoy without overburn. Food made when you order, so no rushing here! Smaller spot with some tables but more set up to order and go. GET THE OKRA!!!

There's a young lady that sits at the counter when you walk in. It took us a while to figure out how to order food... until we asked. Everything made to order so it'll take about 15-25 mins depending on what you order. Pretty decent food.

Tucked away in the northeastern reaches of Nashville in a tiny strip mall in Lakewood is one of the city's greatest hot chicken experiences. But thanks to user-driven platforms like Yelp, this establishment is not a secret. The word is out! Another eatery known as Granddaddy's Famous in Joelton is owned by the founder's son and is equally fabulous. But only at Granddaddy's Original can you eat deliciously spicy entrees and side dishes cooked by granddaddy himself, a retiree who stays active by frying up hot dishes for loyal patrons with his secret recipe. Even the country music legend and hot chicken fan Lorrie Morgan eats here!Run by the sweetest family you'll ever meet, you're immediately welcomed into their small eatery with the unmistakable smell of southern fried food wafting from within. You're instantly reminded by signage, and possibly granddaddy himself, that breast quarters take 25 minutes to prepare. That's a good sign, because everything is being made fresh. They're even growing their own organic peppers, so attention to detail is paramount here. And the wait is absolutely worth it! The food is also tremendously affordable! The texture of the fried chicken is literally perfection, delicately brittle, crunchy yet subtle, a crispy complement to the tender chicken inside. The spice levels aren't as skewed as some chicken joints, so a medium here is like a mild elsewhere. That gives patrons a better range to find that perfect heat. I wouldn't say the spices are as complex at Granddaddy's as a few other spots in town, but thankfully they don't burn much beyond their original journey over your taste buds. That's a good thing. One fantastic feature that I haven't seen anywhere else is that you can order literally any menu item and make it hot and spicy. Patrons rave about their Nashville hot corn on the cob, which I'll be ordering next time. You can spice up your beans, collared greens, coleslaw, potato salad, whatever. And the fries are already spicy, which obviously you can make hotter. But the real discovery was fried okra like no one else does it! Instead of okra pods sliced into small circles, it's fried whole. And it's already pretty spicy both inside and out. By some sort of magic, the interior of each piece of okra is spicy with every bite, like they've been genetically engineered to contain hot sauce. I complemented granddaddy on this marvelous feat of culinary wizardry, but I didn't get the secret out of him. He did say that even people who don't like okra love this side dish! And I've added it to my top 25 things to eat in Nashville (future documentary to hit YouTube)! I absolutely loved Granddaddy's and so will you!

I was visiting Nashville with my family and we had to get some Nashville hot chicken. This spot was on point! The staff was very friendly, food was amazing. We ate so fast I forgot to take pictures. I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with the fried corn! I highly recommend the corn! I also bought some seasoning so I can replicate when we got home. From a spice level standpoint medium was just right! I also got medium on my corn. Make the stop and check this spot out.

Absolutely loved this food!! We met Grandaddy when we visited. He told us the history of his chicken place and gave us a few samples of different items on the menu. I ordered the chicken sandwich and fries. It was SO YUMMY! Hubby ordered 10 "winglets"....if that name makes them sound small it's misleading. These wings were HUGE! Perfectly cooked and crispy! We also got the collard greens!! They were cooked with love, you could taste it. We tried the coleslaw (there's a secret ingredient) and oh so good! The okra comes fried as whole pods! WHAT!?!! Absolutely Delicious! You will not be disappointed!! Sure wish we had a Granddaddy near where we live!!

Folks, I've tried them all. Every hot chicken place I could find in the greater Nashville area. This is the one I've been looking for. THIS IS THE BEST HOT CHICKEN I'VE EVER HAD. Absolutely perfect. Juicy chicken on the inside, crunchy, delicious, deeply flavored and exquisitely spicy on the outside. It does not get better. I got medium spice - which is always my move the first time at a new hot chicken place - and it was divine. Flavor was layered and shockingly complex. I don't know what his pepper blend is but it is superb. Sides were likewise outstanding. Collard greens were smoky, not overly salty (as most are) and savory. Coleslaw was crisp and refreshing. Deep fried corn on the cob was DOPE. Really, you have to try it. The staff - including Grandaddy himself - were wonderful. We felt like we were eating in someone's home. I'll drive across town to eat here before I get my hot chicken anywhere else from now on.

The folks at Granddaddy's have got to be some of the nicest, friendliest people I've ever met. The food was great and the portions were generous. The deep fried hot corn on the cob was especially delicious. The tenders were juicy. Took their advice and got the medium level of heat which is not for sissies!

I don't give many 5 star reviews, and I think I found my favorite hot chicken place in Nashville. Was at Prince's a day ago and this place blows them away. Chicken with flavor and spice, not just burning hot. Wings were whole, huge, and moist, unlike most other places that overcook them. Tried the fried okra, different but good in their own way as they are whole pickled okra. Deep fried corn is to die for, great pork chop sandwich, and don't leave without trying the hot chicken potato. Desserts were very good just like your Mama makes. Limited bottled drinks. Yeah, it's a small place with only a few tables, come for the food. Owners are local, very friendly, and care about the quality of the food. Will be back next time in town, and get a bunch to go!

Goodness gracious, that was absolutely delicious! I came for the okra, which was indeed scrumptious, but so was everything else. The tenders tasted about as close to my grandmother's southern recipe as I've ever had. The coleslaw was fresh, crunchy, light, a little sweet with apple, and a fantastic accompaniment to the spicy chicken. They said the collard greens didn't need vinegar and they were right- they were perfect. My gentleman's medium fish sandwich was fresh and flaky with a nice crunch and enough heat for a man from Mumbai. Getting a Cornish hen for the weekend. A lovely family as well... super friendly! Getcha some soon, y'all! I'll be back regularly!
