Golden Gate Chinese Restaurant

Had lunch here last week with family. It doesn't look like anything special from the outside but inside it's nicely decorated and modern looking with an aquarium. We had 5 people and easily got a table even though it was a busy lunch hour. Everyone ordered orange flavor chicken. I had the beef version. Mine was not crispy and the orange sauce was too sweet or maybe just too much sauce was used. I prefer white rice but we got brown rice. Other than that it was overall very good everyone else seemed pleased with their lunches. Service was top notch and our server had our glasses filled, gave us a bit of time to look at the menu to order and we didn't have to wait at all for our lunch to arrive after ordering. The hostess was very nice and I asked her to take our photo as I was visiting from Seattle. She took several to make sure we got a good one. Thanks!

The appetizers overall were pretty good. Great chicken wing. The cream cheese wonton was good as was the egg roll. Soup was good as were most of the entrees. We were pretty much full after the soup and appetizers. You got 3 smaller entrees with the dinner for two and we still had food for a 3rd person to bring home. Overall I would say a solid value in a decent atmosphere and good service. We will be coming back.

This place is awesome. They accommodated our party of 30 with no reservation. The food was really good and the menu had so many things I wanted to try. I look forward to dining here again!

My family has been coming here for many many years. We moved 23 years ago out of the area. We recently came to Arizona and China Gate was the first place we wanted to eat at. Actually we came here twice once for dinner then again the next day for Lunch. We ordered our favorites Fried Dumplings, House Special Chicken, & Mongolian Beef. We were alittle surprised they now charge for the Jasmine tea and they do not offer fried wonton chips when you are seated. The portions are family style and pretty large, as we always had extras. Served with either fried rice, white rice or you can request brown rice if your prefer. You are also offered a free dessert when they bring your receipt to pay, it was a fried wonton filled with a little banana piece and dusted with powdered sugar and a fortune cookie. The vibe in the restaurant is pretty authentic. And the food is great. The house special chicken was chicken breast dipped in a thin coating, deep fried, then sliced and covered with a small serving of vegetables and a delicious light brown sauce. The Mongolian Beef, was thinly sliced beef, that is well marinated and the garlic sauce was very tasty with a sprinkle of sesame seeds, sautéed green onions, carrots and white onions.We can't wait for our next trip back into town. China Gate is always a good to dinner spot. Till next time.

The best food I ever had here in Arizona, it reminds me of the golden gate back home in Virginia the best food ever I think those who have the name of golden gate restaurant only had the best food.Frank

Great service, great food , good atmosphere .Define recommend this place to enjoy a good dinner.

It saddens me to write this review as I've been going to Golden Gate since I was about twelve years old and loved it. However, things do not last forever, and this is one of them. Stepping inside for the first time in a few years and the restaurant looks the same down to the white paper coverings on the tables. I sat down and checked out the menu and decided on the broccoli with chicken. The lunch order still comes with a choice of soup and wontons and a veggie egg roll. I got the egg drop soup that came out pipping hot, and it was still delicious.I wish I could say that the rest of my meal was delicious. However, this was not the case. The chicken with broccoli came out in a dark brown soupy sauce that I was not expecting. From what I remember for years, the chicken and broccoli came in a white and clear sauce. The sauce was very heavy, too sweet, and did not have any flavor. Eating each bite made me so sad because I remember when this used to taste good, and now it does not. The servers that came by did not seem to really care that I did not like the food.Again, things have to change, but this has not changed for the better. I will have to find a new place for Chinese when I am in Phoenix.

This place was recommended by my friend and I was looking forward to finally visiting here.Lunch menu is available Monday to Saturday. Lunch plate comes with some appetizers and soup. Very generous portion size lunch is served with fried rice.Not quite sure what I say to my friend after actually trying here. I think I won't tell her I came here to avoid conversation?Flavor was rather plain.Service was not too bad. They didn't come over if I liked the food.

The food is very good. I tried something new. Not sure how to say it in Chinese but it was spicy & hot chicken, broccoli, bean sprouts, carrots and more. The chicken wasn't fried so it was a healthier choice. The hot sauce was very tasty. The waiters were very good. They made sure I always had refills. They always made sure I was satisfied. The other customers were always happy. Customers were laughing and enjoying their meal. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants. I have been going here for years! The food is always AMAZING and the service is so nice! I love the place it is always really cozy and homey! 10000000/10
