NEW OWNERS!!!! Suzan and Frank are LOVELY humans working hard to turn around a business impacted by negative reviews from PREVIOUS, horrible owner. Despite owning the business for about a year now, Yelpers are posting negative reviews based on previous owners and it's hurting this business. PLEASE POST WITH KINDNESS AND CONSIDERATION OF NEW OWNERS!!! The employees are friendly and welcoming, the bagels are the perfect consistency of dense and chewy I expect, because these bagels are made fresh daily by Suzan and food is prepared with love. THESE ARE THE BEST BAGELS!!! We had driven around the La Mesa, Fletcher Heights area, stopping at FIVE locations looking for a simple croissant, egg, cheese, ham sandwich. Before driving to another bakery/cafe, I called Golden and asked if they make breakfast sandwiches with croissants. Yes they do! It's not listed on their menu, but they do make the croissant sandwiches on request. Hubby enjoyed his ham, cheese, egg croissant and I enjoyed my sandwich on fresh bialy - SO GOOD! So good, in fact, I went back and got a plain bialy to go AND bagel chips to enjoy at home. IF they survive my appetite on the drive home. Also love that they offer bags of day old bagels for $5.99 at the counter. Golden bagel is smart to not try and compete with the Starbucks next door, so we saw many people with their Starbucks drinks and fresh bagels enjoying the seating inside and out. BOTH are plentiful. If you want a simple cup of diner coffee that won't cost $6, then Golden has you covered with basic decaffeinated and regular coffees in hot carafes at the counter with .99 refills.They also offer salads, wraps, smoothies and specialty flavors of bagel spreads. PLEASE give these LOVELY NEW OWNERS a chance to thrive with this great business and try some bagels today! Cheers! "CC"

I love this place! Such a cute family run establishment. I always get the jalapeño bagel with chive and garlic cream cheese. I think this is the best combination in my opinion. I come once at least once a week.

This place used to be good. I have no idea what happened... I'm going to assume it's a new owner. I ordered two bagels with cream cheese. I was expecting the cup of cream cheese as they had often given customers... but when I opened my bagel, it looked like someone had attempted to sparingly spread frozen cream cheese... there were clumps of it scattered on one side..... but the bagel apparently never got hot enough to melt the cream cheese? Of course they weren't hot enough... THEY TOASTED BOTH BAGELS FOR A COLLECTIVE 5 SECONDS. They were both soft, cold from the frozen cream cheese, and honestly... stale as all heck. These bagels were old and definitely needed to be sold on a FoodWaste app. Their sandwich selection was minimal and the whole place just looked really uninviting and not really enticing. I wish I would've taken that first initial feeling i had of "wtf is this place" and just left. These new owners should've paid the old owner to train them. Cause this place is a failure now.Edit: after going through some of these photos - you can certainly tell they don't know how to melt anything. Like y'all... that shredded cheese on your croissant sandwich is supposed to be MELTED.

I used to come to this place all the time growing up in the neighborhood and it was phenomenal, I've seen their reputation plummet when the new owners took over but I was visiting my mom and needed some breakfast so I thought I would check it out. After reading some more reviews it appears the ownership changed again. Have to say, I'm not disappointed. We got an open faced Lox on an everything bagel and Golden Works on sourdough and everything was great. They both had fresh and well toasted bagels, golden works had thick bacon not the paper thin microwave crap, egg was fluffy and flavorful with well melted cheese and PLENTY of meat you can barely fit it in your mouth lol. I asked for no onion on the lox and they accommodated no problem. $23 for 2 sandwiches so prices have gone up a lot but that's everywhere you eat out now. Hoping to see this level of quality next time I visit.

Just had a really yummy Thai chicken wrap here. It came with yummy hard chips. The place is very clean and well stocked. Staff is friendly and while there's no Wi-Fi, it's right next to Starbucks do no problem. Great tables to sit in or outside and chat or work. I was skeptical at first and very pleasantly surprised. If you haven't tried it in a while, or were here under old owners, worth your consideration.

This was my first time trying one of their bagels and I got an everything bagel with cream cheese and tomato on the side. I asked for extra cream cheese and that is all I got! I'd hate to see what their normal portion looked like! Very disappointing! Not worth the money! The açaí bowl was just okay! Nothing to write home about! It only had two very small scoops of açaí! Then was saturated with a syrup that ruined it! Overall they would rather skimp on portion sizes than to give a quality product to keep their customers coming back! Not a good business practice to keep customers coming back!Plus, I was told this is a new owner and their menu is not like the other franchises from the new owner himself. . This tells me they plan on phasing out the franchise and creating a cheap version of their own.

Last time I was here (pre-covid) it was really good and there used to be lines out the door. I was craving a bagel so I decided to come back and try it again but we showed up and it was empty, and the menu seemed different... I asked if they could slightly warm up the lox (they have to cook the eggs anyways) and the server's response was: "we are incapable of doing that." Which is not true because they have the capability, but they were not willing to do it. My husband ordered a sausage egg sandwich and it was reported very mediocre. Since my husband worked in the food business, he could tell they just microwaved the sausage and didn't warm it on a grill. There was nothing about this place that was remotely special or that gave it an edge that would entice us to come back.
