We were seated immediately as a table for 4. It seems like they currently do more take out orders than dine in. The restaurant was quiet. Or maybe it was just because of the holiday. The staff was friendly and was helpful we our questions regarding the food when we discovered our toddler had a topical allergic reaction. The had a high chair for our daughter but no kid's menu. She mostly ate the rice though so that was fine. But it would have been nice to have a smaller portioned meal for her rather than what we ended up ordering. Everything was fresh and delicious. We got the bok choy & edamame to start. The edamame was salted and yummy (according to the rest of my party- I'm allergic). And I had never had bok choy before but it was a highlight of the meal for sure! It was crispy and flavorful but not overpowered with the veggie flavor. We all ordered sushi rolls for our entrees and we all enjoyed them. I got the OMG roll which was a deep fried California roll. It wasn't over fried (it just gave the outside a crunch). My husband got the 10th Ave roll and it was falling apart as he was picking it up but he still enjoyed it. I ordered the chicken teriyaki for my daughter which came with steamed rice & a salad. The chicken was cooked perfectly but she mostly ate the rice while the rest of us ate her chicken. I would definitely come back next time I'm in Seattle. Or maybe I'll even go again before I leave (but maybe without the toddler).

It upsets me that this place has a low rating because I think it's the best sushi restaurant in Capitol Hill. Sashimi quality for its quantity is so worth it.It has a cute shoes-off seating area for bigger parties. It's also the only place where I can get a little bit of everything I want in a bento box for only $25. Happy Hour from 4-6pm: worth it, never busy!

Very cool inside with food that was pretty good/ok! Our server definitely checked in on us and the interior created a very chill and slightly mood atmosphere. Located in the heart of capital hill so ample street parking. My issue was the inconsistency of the food: Sashimi salad (2/5) was more of a poke bowl without rice. The wonton chips were a weird add so we left those but ate everything else. I was expecting more of a fresh cut fish (no marinated sauce like poke) Pork katsu: (1/5) was really sad.... The cut was so thin and the rice was so packed in and wet when it should be more fluffy. Takoyaki (3/5) on the soggy side but the flavor was good! Yellowtailkama (5/5): was actually so good! Moist and not burnt but crispy on the outside, it was our favorite. Overall, they have a bunch of drinks which are nice and lots of options for food. A good time for groups or a dinner but not the best food capital hill has to offer.

Chill ambiance. Quick service. Not to mention, the location is in the heart of capitol hill, with easy access to other shops, eateries and nearby parks. The unagi was seared to perfection! Also, the ambiance was chill with gapping street views that could seen out of wide expandable windows. The sake choices were sub par and customer service was a bit dry and uninviting. On the other hand my food was bought to the table quick without error. I recommend this restaurant for a try.

My friends and I were shopping in the area and we came across Gokan. We were really hungry and didn't want to wait 60 mins at the restaurant we originally checked out. The food was pretty good; not the best sushi I've had but it was decent. Here is my ranking for the rolls I ordered1) Salmon Lover: as a salmon lover, I LOVED IT. The salmon was very fresh and yummy. The fish had the best texture and bite; the lemon zest paired very well with the salmon.2) Blue Lagoon: rolls were a little thin but still very fresh and the flavor profile was very nice3) Spicy Black Ninja: was not as spicy as I thought it would be and the flavor was not as vibrant as I expected. We also ordered the Veggie Tempura Roll on accident instead of vegetable tempura, but it was surprisingly very good as well.Overall, it was a decent meal but if I'm in Capitol Hill, there are definitely other sushi places I'd check out before coming here again.

The pork belly was super tasty and almost melts in your mouth but I like that I could chew on it more than if it did. It's soft. But the curry was rather lacking and underseasoned :( I got to-go and it was prepared in a decent time and the server was really nice and patient! Would try again though!

I was pretty underwhelmed here. A beautiful spot and good service, but lacking good food. Things I liked: The atmosphere is pretty and the house sake was good. The sashimi was nice and well selected.Did not like: it was a boiling hot day in Seattle. They left the floor to ceiling windows open, leaving me melting and sweating the whole time and allowing the wafting smells of the streets to hit me in the face. Yuck.Edamame was mushy. I've not had this experience before. Maybe steamed too long?Soy sauce is in little packets ala to-go style. Just kind out of step to squeeze out little packets at a higher end spot and have little plastic garbage all over your table.Sushi was fine. A lot of over the top selections with four types of fish stuffed on, something fried and a cream sauce. There's a lot of sushi spots in seattle, I wouldn't pick this one first.

Came here for dinner at 9pm so we could enjoy the happy hour pricing! It was pretty empty so we had really fast service. When ordering from the happy hour menu, you must order a dish and a drink. I ordered the lychee 75 which was SOOO good! It was only $9 and so tasty I had to order two of them. My sixth sense roll was good too but I preferred the ranier roll which was so yummy! It had a smoky flavor from the torched fish. The garlic edamame was a hit too! Would come back here :)

TLDR: A great mid-tier sushi restaurant with a solid menu, but hasn't quite found its "soul" yet.I went to the Gokan with a friend on a Tuesday night around 7. Happy hour was just ending at 6:30, so I was surprised to see a very large physical footprint that wasn't as full as it should be considering the quality of the food. It was great, but there was some character missing. Some soul perhaps. Hard to put my finger on it because this place is good and when they find it, they'll be even better.

We went here with some friends for dinner. Overall it was a good experience. The service was fine and the food was fine as well. Is it the best Japanese I have eaten, nope. We ordered several rolls, Katsu, and other fish. The flavors were good and fish was what I would hope.Overall the service was fine, she was tentative and we didn't need anything throughout the meal.I would recommend if you are looking for Japanese!
