Everyone insisted Gino's was THE place to go for authentic Chicago Deep Dish and it did not disappoint. The Mozzarella Sticks were ok, but not great, not much flavor in the breading but the pizza...it was out of this world! I ordered a deep dish pepperoni and sausage. It takes about 45mins for the deep dish, but that was fine. The crust was crispy and it was cooked all the way through. The way some people described the crust worried me, they said it was more of a cornbread texture (not the flavor, just the texture). I assumed it would be crumbly but it wasn't. It is more flaky to me, crisp on the outside and flaky inside. Whatever it was, it was delicious. Upon arrival there were lots of people standing in the lobby/entrance and the security guard, Officer Lee, greeted me and he was so nice. As we talked and he realized I was alone, he suggested sitting at the bar rather than waiting for a table and showed me the way. He was so nice and helpful. As I sat down at the bar, Andrew, the bartender greeted me and from the moment I sat down I felt like I had been there a million times. I watched as he engaged with everyone at the bar, laughing and talking to each person. He was definitely in his element and made everyone feel welcome. The restaurant in itself had a very relaxed atmosphere. There is an ice cream shop in the entrance/lobby which makes it a little chaotic but it's not a huge deal. The restaurant itself is fun, lively, service is great, and there's a comedy club on the second floor. It is great for families, friends, a date, or just to hang out alone. The walls are covered in signatures which adds to the relaxed atmosphere and gives you the opportunity to leave your mark on Chicago.

Genos East was a bit of a bust. We tell our server we have a schedule to keep. We know there's freeway traffic going north of the city and all parking in area is $10-15/hr. Server assures we do not want to order the Deep Dish, thin pizzas are delicious. He says deep dish is 45-60 to cook. Thin is 25 minutes. Restaurant was not full. We order 2 thins, salad at 1:48 (on our receipt. Salad arrives and we finish in 5 minutes. It's 2:03. Then we order a glass of wine, was very good. We got more water, fresh plates, cutlery after salad. The other servers were doing the jobs. No one is standing around (except ours, but I think he was managing too) At 2:38 pizzas aren't there and we're concerned. Ready to cancel and leave. Then I ask and MAGICALLY a pizza comes out 2:40, another 4 minutes later. I say I need the check right now. I saw 2 different tables seated after us getting a small deep dish delivered when we got ours. We can't stay longer. Our server whips out the handheld machine and says you can pay now. The tips start at 20%. Hilarious. I personally can't tip less with all that staff around. My receipt says 2:45pm I paid. So we got all of our food an hour after ordering. Total was $94.81.It's convenient for the customer to pay instantly at the table but awkward when they stand there. And what am I going to say?! The topping ingredients were high quality. The pizzas were dry. Crust was tasty and tough. We had TO GO and it's not like I could have sent the food back. We wolf down 2 pieces each and get a box to leave. We walk out, see 2 fresh thin pizzas getting rolled on a cart to elevator for 2nd floor dining. They looked nothing like ours, a little puff on light crust, moist cheese. So ours was FORGOTTEN and dried out or FORGOTTEN and rushed and burnt. I believe with handheld devices the order goes to kitchen electronically? So it was that server that forgot to get our food on time. I suggest anyone with time crunch to avoid. And don't assume they remember anything you said after the order goes in, there's no accountability for screwing up. It's not like I'll ever be back in Chicago downtown on a weekday for late lunch. They are not hurting for business. Go elsewhere.

Unfortunately, the deep-dish sausage pizza with the sausage patty had a very thin dry sausage patty, the cheese was stiff not a soft gooey cheese, the crust was just not good and the pizza was served warm not hot. I am from Chicago but now live in South Carolina, but when I come home Gino's East is normally one of my favorite pizza places, so I invited an out of town group with we. Very few ate the crust. We had very fresh delicious salads and calamari. The service was prompt and professional. The manager discussed my concerns and was apologetic. The atmosphere is fun and great for gathering.

Knowing that the pizza takes 45 minutes minimum is KEY! Get there early, have some of Gino's beer, bring toys for your kids and a marker to write on the wall in true Gino's fashion. Hadn't been here in 20 years and it felt the same. Nostalgic, fun and the pizza was better than I remembered.

Not just the best pizza in Chicago, not just the best deep dish pizza, but the best pizza EVER! This is always a must visit during any trip to Chicago. Pro Tip: Grab a seat at the bar for quicker service. And if Andrew is working, you're in luck!

This place is THE place for deep dish pizza. It was amazing. Andrew was super helpful with our orders as well as giving us a few tips about where to go downtown for different activities. Shout out Andrew, we appreciate you. The restaurant itself has a great environment and I would love to come back again.
