We had a wonderful wine and food pairing experience at Ginko Forest tasting room in Tacoma tonight. Service was fantastic. The setting was intimate and not too crowded. A wine sommelier walked us through the tastings and pairings with plenty of knowledge , interesting stories, and fun. Amazing wine and delicious food! There was more than we could eat and they gave us to-go boxes. So we will be enjoying our leftovers tomorrow with a bottle of wine we purchased there. Well worth the price. We look forward to the next event!

My wife and I 'discovered' Ginko Estate Wines about five years ago while on a bicycle ride near Mt Rainier National Park: we had stopped at a little place in Ashford , WA for lunch and they were featuring 'Ginko Forest Red' - a blend- and we were impressed enough to seek out a retailer near our home in Seattle. Finding none, at the time, we had a case shipped to us from their facility in central WA. A couple years later they opened the tasting room in 'Old Town' Tacoma (YESSSS!!!) On one of our visits we met Mike, the owner, and that really added another essential -and personal- dimension to our relationship with the wines and the people who grow the grapes and produce the wines. Eventually we joined their wine club and look forward each season to the latest arrivals! 'Ginko Forest Red' remains one of our regulars, but new blends like 'Black Forest Red', Wildwood Blend, and Coalesce are favorites. Speaking of favorites, I can't close without saying the single varietal: the 2013 Reserve Carmenere holds a special place in our hearts! We really enjoy Ginko Forest's offerings and think you will as well! Happy Tasting!R&D - Seattle

I absolutely love this place. My friends and I decided to head to Ginkgo Forest Winery last night to blow off some work-related steam. I'm so glad we did because I can't say enough great things about it.First, the tasting room is super easy to find and not far from the water. The tasting room itself was really warm and cozy inside. There are several tables to choose from. You can also stand at the tasting bar.The best part of this place has to be the man (whose name I've forgotten) who served us last night. It was probably one of the best tastings I've done in a very long time. First, he was extremely knowledgeable and really took the time to explain each tasting. With that said, his descriptions were the perfect length. That is, enough detail to be entertaining, but not too long that I got bored. The way the tasting works is that they let you taste a variety of wines (reserve, red, white, and dessert) for $6. The nice thing is that for every bottle of wine you buy, a tasting gets comped (meaning the tasting is free). There are a lot of wines to choose from for the tasting (20+). The only caveat is that because they have so many wines, only some are available for tasting at any given time. This was totally fine with me, and also means that they rotate their tastings. In addition to great staff, I was also so impressed with the wines here. They have SO many different wines. They even have ports (which are my absolute favorite). I love that they grow all of their own grapes, which I'm learning is becoming rarer and rarer these days (especially when a place offers so many different types of wine). We tried several wines last night and there wasn't a bad one to be had. Although all were really good, we went with the Rose ($16), which was very unique. I also loved that it wasn't too sweet. In addition to the Rose, I also bought 2 bottles of some ports (the Syrah and the blueberry). Some final notes. First, this place is dog friendly. They even gave my dog a bowl of water, which was nice. Second, they have very limited food options (e.g., cheese plate). However, you can bring in your own food, which is awesome! In sum, a great find in Tacoma. I would highly recommend it.

This is a wine tasting room in old town Tacoma. The area is very cozy and cute! We stopped here on our way to Ruston. There is plenty of parking nearby. We did the tasting for $5 and tried 5 different wines. Because there were two of us, we were able to pretty much try everything that they had open. So I will say their options of tasting were kinda limited but we were able to get a meat and cheese plate ($12). Sadly, we just weren't a fan of their wines. The only one I really liked was the Petite Verdot. I love wine tasting so I wish I could have liked more of their wines so that we could have gone back.

My wife and I visited here first because a friend highly recommended it. We walked in and I immediately thought "this is either going to suck- or be my new favorite place". Well, we joined the wine club that night, and go back as often as we can. We even hosted our pre wedding celebration party there, and have since had several friends join the wine club also. We love the small simple and intimate feel. The wine is great, they have a good selection of red, white and even desert wines. You can tell the staff genuinely enjoys wine and sharing wine knowledge. We are by no means particularly knowledgable wine drinkers, but would like to be. We have had Kate as our server several times and she makes the experience even better. She is not snobby about our lack of wine knowledge, but rather just gives us information that makes sense to us and answers out questions. She let's us have a good time, get pretty goofy, and will even come chat it up with us a bit while we are tasting. The prices are also unbeatable! If you go during happy hour, $3 a glass- for GOOD WINE! Where else can you get that!? Really!? The only downside is if you bring a friend who doesn't like wine, there are no other alcoholic options. They do have soda and water. Also, no food service but they do have cheese and meat plates. Wine club member perks: free tasting anytime, 15% off any purchase, access to exclusive wine member events and wines. All you have to do is choose once (or twice) a year to purchase a few bottles of wine hand picked and crafted by the wine maker. There is no cost to joining the wine club.

In my effort to develop my wine pallet I like to try at least one winery when I travel. Yelp has been my go to for referrals. Ginkgo Winery was a winner. The young lady who did our tasting was very nice and knowledgeable. We went during the day during the week so we had her undivided attention. She talked about the owner and his philosophy behind the winery. Ginkgo is a tree that grows for years. The Ginkgo leaf is on their bottles and their glasses. She pulled out a map to show us the actual location of the winery. We were at the tasting room in Tacoma. They had wine slushies but we didn't try it......the tasting was enough for me. I really liked the reisling so I bought a bottle to take back home. Hubby is more a whiskey fan so she recommended a location that had whiskey flights. I thought that was another example of good customer service. If you are in Tacoma stop by for a tasting you won't be disappointed.

Had the day to kill, saw the reviews and thought I'd give it a try. Room a bit of a clinical feel. Could use some plants or something to make it a little more hospitable. Very friendly pricing, $5 for 5 tastings??? Heck ya! They offered a "Wildlife Blend," not in my wheelhouse but fair. The "Syrah," was very nice, smooth with a nice finish. "Cab Franc" & the "Petite Verdot" we're okay. The "Cab," was the finale and worth the wait. Again, smoother with a softer finish. Asked and received a wine price list. Was a little surprised at the value. VERY price friendly. Also tried the "Riesling," wifeys favorite so if I have to talk her into going, need to tell her that it was "very good," which it was. Definitely worth a return trip.
