Very delicious food made at a family restaurant. We sat outside on a cool day and enjoyed the cool breezes and a little sun under the gazebo out front. While we waited for our food the waitress, Kelly, brought out homemade chips and salsa which was really delicious. My husband ordered the beef burrito and I ordered a taco salad. My onlyIssue was how long it took but frankly worth the fact that it was obviously freshly made. The food was delicious. It is a quaint little location that was perfect for a casual lunch. There is seating inside and out with a sweet indoor bar seating. A very very quiet location so lots of privacy and low foot traffic.

Great little restaurant with a cozy indoor and outdoor seating area. Owner was the only one working and his service was excellent and food came out fast. I'm from New Mexico and the chili was on point. The green was great and made me feel like I was in NM. Had the chicken burrito and it was delicious. Definitely a great place for a traditional NM meal.

Finally made it to Gil's Taste of Taos for an afternoon lunch. Hidden in a shopping center southeast of Bell & 16th Street. Have seen the previous reviews and have wanted to try it for years. I was not disappointed, what a gem! Great ambience, small and authentic. Ordered the carne adovada plate served with rice, beans and plenty of marinated pork in a red chili sauce. The pork was very tender and the dish was not too spicy. Served with your choice of corn or flour tortillas.Service was great, chatted with Gil and it was a very pleasant dining experience. He asked if I was from New Mexico. Not many people order that dish. Been thinking about that and he was right. Most of the carne adovada I have tried is from New Mexico or New Mexico Style Restaurants in the Valley. His is one of the best. Put this one on your list.

My wife and I had lunch at Gil's Taste of Taos, a small and cute little New Mexico style restaurant. Specializing in Hatch Green Chili and Chimayo red chili dishes. The food was fresh and flavorful. My wife enjoyed the chicken enchiladas, and I sampled the shredded beef and chicken tacos, both quite good. Having said that, I will probably never eat there again. They did one of the things I hate the most, which is not honor a coupon for their own restaurant. I showed them an entertainment book coupon for a free entree when you buy one. The owner said we only accept some coupons and would not honor mine. I recommended that he should put a sign in the window saying they don't honor coupons, which seemed to annoy him.So be aware that if you have a coupon, they may not honor it. I enjoyed the food, but due to poor customer service he lost my business.

Stopped into Gil's for a quick dinner. This is a cute lil spot. The staff was lovely. Food was pretty good! The beans are great and my husband and I both tried dishes with the green chili sauce. The shredded chicken definitely suits that sauce better than beef. The prices were fair. There's a lot of heart in this small business. Totally worth a try if you're in the neighborhood.

Excellent food - please consider trying this hidden gem as the place as they can definitely use more business.I used to travel to New Mexico frequently for business and miss the unique cuisine of red and green chile's and dessert sopapillas. I saw a few reviews on Gil's and checked out their menu online and it look great, so my wife and I decided to stop by on a Friday for lunch. Our only concern on stopping by was there was not a wine, mixed drink or beer menu. The good news is that the food and service was outstanding, but we were the only ones there for our entire meal and didn't hear the phone ringing with orders either.Kelly, a very engaging and excellent server, promptly helped us choose between inside seating and outside gazebo seating. It was very windy, so we decided to to stay inside but will try the gazebo seating in the future. The inside seating while somewhat limited, was very clean with great New Mexico flair. We were served complimentary freshly fried hot tortilla chips with red chile and hatch chile salsas that were perfect. My wife, who hates cilantro (one of those that thinks it tastes like soap), appreciated that it is not used in the New Mexican cooking and loved her chicken chimichanga with red sauce while I enjoyed a carne asada stuffed sopapilla with green chili sauce. Both were outstanding and everything was made from scratch. We couldn't leave without trying a dessert sopapilla served piping hot with powdered sugar and honey. Excellent! We learned that there is a BYOB policy without a corkage fee, so look forward to bringing a bottle of wine and sitting in the patio gazebo for a future dinner. Give this place a try and you will love it!
