this is not the best sushi but it will curb my craving for high quality sushi. i'd be more than happy to go here for sushi (close to me) and leave with a happy belly while i wait for higher quality sushi. i definitely understand there are only certain places that have high quality sushi so this place is my day to day go to sushi place in town. the owners are the cutest older couple and most of the staff speak japanese and have heavy accents... so i know they know their sushi! the restaurant is interesting right now i think they are figuring out what to do after covid still and half opened up their tables. it is moderately noisy inside but you can have your own conversations amongst your tables. definitely would recommend for a moderate level sushi quality and good pricing. let's be real it's hard to afford to eat high quality sushi as that is quite expensive.

Fantastic Maki! When in the Tacoma sea and in good of good Maki this is where I go. If you like sushi rolls this is a fantastic place. I will however say there have been issues with car breakins due to the area it's located at. Pretty sure you can read reviews about that. But then again a lot of Seattle is just as bad, if not worst in some areas.

We enjoyed the sushi. Will order again. There are only 3 people working, the sushi chef, the lady would cooks the other non sushi foods and the other lady who does all the Front of house stuff. Be patient. Highly recommend takeout vs dining in! Remember to TIP Even for pickup orders.

This review occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic and as for takeout only.I ordered two sushi rolls to go and was pleased to arrive and see my box ready and waiting for me at the pickup counter. Sushi chef yelled a greeting at me and this especially made it feel like home. I opened up my box to find beautiful fresh fish and a nice portion!Puyallup roll:Very similar to a regular California roll but with the addition of unagi.Geisha roll:Tuna, salmon, and yellowtail with avocado, cucumber, and shiso leaf. Amazing and large sized roll.Simple and tasty, just like it was meant to be.

For the price I think you get better sushi elsewhere. Salmon quality is pretty good but other than that I'm not so sure. Service is alright, they weren't mean but definitely weren't friendly either. The interior looks abit better than exterior.

Wasn't impressed by this place. Unfortunately everything wasn't going our way once we stepped in. Service was slow, they forgot our roll, our food was messed up again, we used paper plates, our server forgot our drinks. Don't recommend this place. Sorry but not sorry

Gari of Sushi is that place you want to go when you just want pure, fresh, delicious sushi. It is a small operation, so there was a little mix-up with the order, but they corrected it quickly! Overall a great place with a more traditional, limited menu.

This place is the best sushi in Tacoma! Authentic Japanese cuisine for sure. Sushi is prepared professionally and beautifully. Miso soup tasted like my mother's miso. Loved it.Service was just fine. Interior is nostalgic Showa atmosphere. Totally enjoyed!

First time here at Gari Sushi and WOW I am impressed. The rolls I got were the Salmon Ladder (most popular), Rainbow Fisherman, Dynamite vs Crunch Eel (Our favorite), and Spider Meets Tuna. All the rolls were very good but what stood out to me the most was the quality you're getting for a decent price. All of the fish were very fresh and I was surprised that they used a premium cut of tuna for their rolls. Tuna was so good I didn't even need to chew when I ate it on its own!The atmosphere itself was a bit homey and cozy. An older Korean lady was our server and she was the nicest! I know this place may look iffy on the outside at first but trust me the food here is top notch! Will definitely come back here again.
