Revisited the new format after getting takeout recently. Dining room has changed and digital screen menus facilitate ordering when fast counter service is needed. Figured to go with our neighborhood restaurant that's a short drive away. Easy parking just the meter or around the corner.Got the vegetarian combo, potato chop (no borak available that day) and the lentil soup. Was trying to focus on the Eden specials which are Iraqi in origin and less common at other restaurants in the area. Came with flatbread that was toasted crisp along with fresh soft bread as well (more than enough for our whole meal). The tables and chairs maybe are from the previous format and are nicer than usual fast carryout, a plus either way however you are dining when you arrive whether it's quiet with you and just the chef table-service or maybe a busier lunch time counter service.

My favorite Mediterranean place for lentil soup! There's no other lentil soup seasoned the way it's done here! I love it so much! All of the food is fresh and delicious and the owner is so friendly and kind. I'm happy to support this small business and encourage everyone to do the same!

6/2019 Update for those that mentioned that the restaurant was closed. Yes, it was closed for renovation. They are now open with a new dining experience and with a very nice modern look. The restaurant looks lively and very inviting. Food good as always. When they they were closed, we tried other places, we ate, but disappointed with the food taste, it was was not the same.Again, it's open. Hurray!!! And everything is fresh and still BYOB. We ate today and the food is delicious as usual. I personally love the beef borak salad.

Today my friend got carry out for us at Garden of Eden and the only plastic involved was a plastic outer grocery bag! The sandwishes were wrapped in aluminum foil and paper bags, the tabouli salad was in an aluminum pan with cardboard lid! The most eco friendly packaging I've seen anywhere around here! However, if you wanted xtra sauce that still came in little disposable containers. He turned down the plastic silverware. Still, I want to give these guys a big "way to go" for trying to be eco friendly. For awhile this restaurant was closed and I feared it was gone for good. But it did reopen and I think the food is even better than before. The tabbouleh was very good and the chicken kabob sandwich was excellet. The new sandwich recipe has cucumbers instead of the pink pickled turnips. But the turnips were included with the tabbouleh.

Friendly staff and amazing, yummy Middle Eastern food. This restaurant is a local treasure!! Everything was very fresh and delicious. So glad to get to enjoy lunch here while in Chicago visiting family!! Reasonable prices add to the appeal.
