Tonight we had guests from out of town who decided to get a place far from the center of San Diego. They were traveling in from the East Coast, exhausted AND wanted Italian food family style. So Little Italy was not an option. So here comes Gaetano's Italian Restaurant in Lakeview to the rescue. The place is unassuming but don't let that fool you. The food was excellent in particular the standard garlic bread, lasagna and Maria's salad Our service was impeccable in particular the help staff who suggested correctly that we move to a larger table for our party of five. The meal came out hot and just quick enough but not too quickly. There is ample parking too unlike Little Italy. Lastly our guests were Mandarin speakers and they loved the food. My only suggestion is that the owners update the menu with photos of the food as this would help a lot for non English speakers.

Pros: Customer service was great, even got a history of the restaurant from the son of the founder, who came over from Naples and started the restaurant 50 years ago. The pizzas were great. Authentic italian. Cons: (2) two topping, large pizzas were $50. Felt like that was a bit much.

I've been to this Italian restaurant many times and have never been disappointed. This time, the service was above and beyond. I came in right before closing, and the staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming, especially a lady who made my visit memorable. The food, as always, was outstanding. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were rich and authentic. Highly recommend this place for both the amazing food and the exceptional service!

We got the Gorgonzola tortellini and added mushrooms, the fettuccine alfredo, and 3 topping pizza with pepperoni, jalapeño, and bacon. Both pastas were very creamy and flavorful (4/5 stars). The pizza was ok. Very thin crust, not very cheesy, and pretty greasy where the bread became soggy and flimsy. We chose the outdoor patio since we brought our dog with us. The service was below average since the server did not introduce herself, check on us, or have a friendly demeanor. Last complaint is no refills on soda, which I guess I could have asked if there was, but I assumed wrong. Overall rating is 3.5/5.

This place is a joke. They charge $2 for a 2 ounce extra side of salad dressing. What kind of business thinks they can do this and not insult customers? I'll be going to the place on the other side of the freeway in the future, where the ingredients actually justify the prices, unlike here where they use canned mushrooms (in oil) on their pizzas.

We went to Gaetano's Italian Restaurant to have a memorial birthday dinner for my brother that we lost last year. He loved Gaetano's.This is a nice neighborhood Italian restaurant. The food is delicious. The servers are pleasant and the ambiance is quaint. I had the Tortellini Gorgonzola which was delicious if a tad bland. My husband enjoyed his rigatoni with meat sauce.We will definitely be back.

3 topping Pizza, Antipasto salad, garlic bread, 1 soda with tax and tip $50. Pizza was delicious but the crust was pretty burnt. This is old school italian so it definitely reminded me of years gone by. Garlic bread was yummy and so was the antipasto. I gave it a 3 star because it was good but nothing outstanding. Service was just ok but they were polite. Ambience and a/c is just so so. With that being said, I would try it again but probably to go, and I would request they don't burn the crust on the pizza.

Walked in with service dog, and the first question was "are you here for pickup." We were then asked to sit outside and when we declined, the waitress summoned the owner's son who told us "my mom doesn't like dogs" and didn't hesitate to intonate just how unwelcome we were in their establishment. We asked to sit in the far end of the room and they said it was reserved, so they put us by the door. The entire time, nobody even took the table at the end, so I presume that was a lie. My service dog made a very small and isolated noise because his nose got irritated and she came over immediately to gesture us outside. Moreover, the food tasted like canned tomato sauce, and was nothing special..... This establishment is unabashedly discriminatory and from other reviews I've read, unapologetically racist.
