Futago Udon

This place was a staple for during my time in college; I never a bad experience here -- sometimes it amazes me how consistently delicious it is every time I go! Such a cute space that fills up quickly during lunch and dinner time (I've seen people start lining up right before they even open their doors). Menu is not too big, and I've been several times already but that honestly doesn't make it any easier to decide what to order when I dine here because everything is so yummy! When you do decide on what you want, the staff is quick to take your order and the food comes out pretty quickly. I definitely recommend this spot for a casual meal that is well-made, filling, and worth the price. My favorite thing might be the sukiyaki udon, it tastes rich, a perfect amount of salty to fill any savory cravings, and the onions add a hint of sweetness -- well-rounded dish overall. Also I've had a few other sukiyaki bowls in Boston and none of them have hit quite like this one. Other bowls I would recommend are their uni cream, spicy dan dan, cheese niku curry, and their beef truffle (this is another popular one among me and my friends, the aroma is show-stopping every time it's served).

I came after the lunch rush and was seated right away. Parking outside is rough with mostly permit only. The place is medium size and good for smaller groups but could maybe do 1-2 larger groups. The restaurant was still quite packed with most tables taken. Service very fast with my food out in 5-10min.10/10 Sukiyaki Udon $23 - quite pricey off the bat but serving size is LARGE. This could serve 2 but I eat a lot so it was enough for me. Udon was well made, chewy, and soaked up the broth well. Broth was also AMAZING. It was savory, slightly sweet, and had a lot of flavor. Comes with a perfect poached egg, soft tofu, thin sliced beef that also was tender and soaked up the soup. Worth the price for the once in a while cravings.7/10 Chicken Tatsuta-age - $9.5 - Chicken was cooked through but still juicy. There's no seasoning on it so the sauce makes up most of the flavor which was still good. Chicken texture and shape was more like thin strips with a light batter crust. It was overall just ok for me.

Cheese Niku Curry - would absolutely get again and recommend this the most. The curry wasn't too thick but it also wasn't too light and so it had a nice curry base/broth combo to it. Came with a lot of udon and the cheese was a nice touch to the dish. Beef Truffle Udon - this was okay. Can taste a bit of the truffle. Otherwise, this is a standard bowl of udon with beef.

I stopped here for a weekend lunch with a friend and there was a little bit of a wait. The table turnover is quick though. While we waited for our table, the hostess took our orders so it did not take long for the food to come out after. I ordered the sukiyaki beef udon and it was delicious. I loved that the soup came out piping hot. Broth was flavorful and only very slightly sweet. I usually don't like the sweet udon broths but this one was well balanced. Udon was thinner than expected but very chewy. Generous portion of beef which was tender. Overall a solid bowl of udon noodle soup. Would return in the future to try the other ones!

From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I felt genuinely welcomed and appreciated. The owner is ABSOLUTELY LOVELY! She is kind, caring, and considerate, so please make sure to support this business! It deserves the best! I had such a great first visit because of her!For my meal, I started with the Chicken Tatsuta-Age, which turned out to be the highlight. The lemon accentuated the chicken's flavors beautifully, and it was cooked to perfection - incredibly juicy and moist. The dipping sauce added an extra layer of flavor with its wonderful consistency.Although I ordered the creamy uni udon, there seemed to be a mix-up, and I received the cold uni udon instead. This dish requires a particular palette, so I would not recommend it unless you're familiar with uni or you prefer a fishy taste. The uni itself had a slight bitterness, which I was indifferent about. Nonetheless, the udon noodles were cooked just right and the broth base was refreshing! I would have preferred stronger flavors, but overall, it wasn't bad! I still hope to try the creamy uni udon or one of the other cold udon options, especially as a huge fan of cold udon.With its inviting atmosphere and stylish decor, this place deserves another visit. Everyone should give it a try!

I love their udon. I've come here multiple times over the past year and though embarrassing to say, I have only tried a small portion of their menu. I usually get the same item each time: the Uni Cream Udon or Cold Mentaiko Udon if the other is sold out. The Chicken tatsuta-age is also good with lemon. It's a small cozy udon place. It can get busy during dinner with the limited amount of seating, but the wait is usually not too long. Most of the time during dinner, I've been seated at the shared table in the back. It's a very large table, so I've never had the issue of not having enough space or other customers getting in my space. Definitely one of the best udon spots in Boston.

Service was quick, ambiance is fast casual, and the food was great! Uni Cream Udon | 6.9/10Great, but my dad's Sukiyaki Udon had more flavor. This one is kinda like an Alfredo pasta and not as filling as the other.Sukiyaki Udon | 7.8/10Prime! This may be their most popular one. It has a lot going on and some great strips of meat.

TL;DR: Udon place with lots of variety of cold and hot noodles, and so good!Stopped by here for a quick bite for dinner and was very impressed. I had never had cold udon noodles before, and it was great!Interior is cute with some nice decor and plenty of seating. Service was nice, quick, and attentive. FOOD: ~Cold Uni Udon (5/5): Cold dish! I love uni and ikura, so this hit the spot. The broth/sauce was a dashi flavor. Mixed it all up and was the perfect balance of umami and salty. The coldness of the dish really ensured the integrity of the udon noodles, and they were so perfectly chewy~Sukiyaki Udon (5/5): Hot dish! Tasted like hot pot! The beef was very tender and had a decent amount of cabbaged that was perfectly braised. I loved this dish.This is definitely a must try!

Solid place to fulfill your udon cravings. They have a wide variety of udon soups (both cold and hot). I got the duck udon which was a nice savory broth (but gets kind of salty towards the end) with a healthy serving of udon and sliced duck which was cooked perfectly. I'm looking forward to coming back for more especially on a cold winter day! Service was great - our water cups were never empty and the servers were very attentive. This place does get fairly busy so recommend coming on off hours or doing take out.

Great Dine-in experience! I typically order Futago Udon for delivery, but recently ate at the restaurant with a friend and had such a great experience. I came on a Friday night around 6PM and got seated immediately as it was not too busy. The staff was very nice and food came out pretty quickly. The interior is decorated nicely and has a great ambiance.My friend and I ordered the Uni Cream Udon and Niku Curry Udon to share. Both were very flavorful! Portion size was good as well. That was enough food for us to both feel satisfied. Would definitely recommend dining in to get the full experience, but even if you order for takeout/delivery, the food is still very good!
