I was recently diagnosed with a gluten allergy and of the many local Japanese restaurants, I have found Fuji to be the most accommodating; things are well marked in the menu of what can be done GF.

Food: I thought the food was OK. Appetizers were mixed. The shumai didn't have much flavor, but the lettuce chicken wraps were really good!My main entree - the unagi in a clay pot was OK. There wasn't as much eel as I expected, A LOT of rice, and the clay pot cooked down pretty fast. Mocktail (got the Lychee Martini) was good though, nice and refreshing.Service: Food was fast! Ambiance: It's lovely inside, very minimalist vibes and cozy, but I wish there were more bathrooms. The restaurant had a lot of business dinner people (like my table), so I would assume it can get busy.

The food was really good. The location was nice and Newtonville. It's a very family restaurant in this location. The service was a little slow. The spicy tuna wasn't that spicy. The ambience seems to be very contemporary, but I don't know this would be my go to sushi place. It's nice to know that it is there in the neighborhood.

Well, I have found my Sushi spot , and so much more! I visited Fuji Newton twice and the South End location at Ink Block and have had consistently delicious food and cocktails . Fuji seems to be a small chain often nestled in nicer new apt buildings so I wasn't expecting anything special- but it was!! Pics here are from the cozy, bright Newton spot. Craving sushi a bit early on a weekday I popped in here and sat at the small bar area. I tried the Secret to Success + Avo and the Sweet Chili wings and they were both perfect. The wings particularly rocked my world . Returned again with a friend to sample more and the items were equally fresh & delicious! People who live in the surrounding apartments are lucky to live so close, will be dining here again- and again!

The bar area way more low key than I would have liked. Big fan on Fuji in Newton. We had a reservation for four on a Friday and were seated promptly. We put our orders in and the food came out in a good amount of time. They offer cucumber wraps for their sushi rolls so I feasted on that. The interior is very much like all of the other Fuji restaurants in the area. Definitely recommend.
