Frisko Freeze has been around since the 50's. It's a classic burger joint I've been going to since I was a kid. My husband wasn't a fan but I convinced him to go last night for a late night meal and he was pleasantly surprised! It's everything you want in a drive in style meal. The burgers were perfectly greasy and yummy, fish was great and fries were good and crispy. Got the blackberry shake as well and it was good. Wish it was a little more tart but tasted as I expected it to so that's not so much a negative and a personal preference. They're under construction right now so they're temporarily working out a food truck. That being said, we had a few orders ahead of us so we had to wait but it wasn't overly long. The staff was good all though one person inside was overly loud about their personal issues using rough language in the back but they weren't right in the front so I just ignored it. Just a warning, if you haven't been to this spot in Tacoma before it definitely seems like a sketchy street at night with all the construction going on so just be aware of your surroundings.

Stopped here on Friday night around midnight and the place was consistently busy. Great service and good old fashioned burgers and fries and shakes. Iconic place.

Stopped by Frisco Freeze yesterday for the first time in a long time! I saw that they were closed for remodeling and finally opened back up, so decided to grab some food. I was so happy to see a veggie burger (Gardenburger) on the menu. Not vegan, but good for vegetarians.I felt like $5.40 was super reasonable. My partner had a cheeseburger. We were all very pleased with our food. We also got a strawberry lemonade Frisco slushie and swirl cone. We were kind of bummed because we didn't see sundaes on the menu anymore. Otherwise, everything was good and it was prepared quickly. I used online ordering through Toast.

Apparently they have new owners because after all these years their prices have skyrocketed to the point that I will NEVER go back! $6.50 for a double burger with no cheese and $4.40 for fries is a lot more than I've ever paid here. I also noticed on my visit June 16th of 2024 that not one of the old crew was there! Apparently they weren't willing work for minimum wage. They even changed their beef patties to the size of a McDonald's regular burger, those super thin patties. At these prices, people are going to find a different place to call their favorite when they quickly realize they food AND prices AND staff have all changed.

I heard this was the Dicks, the In N Out, the historic burger joint of Tacoma. Open till 11 pm, it was a perfect late night stop for us after an evening event in the museum district. The place is a small building with wraparound windows showing into the cooking area. There is an order window staffed by some teens. Cars can park all around, but there is not too much parking, maybe enough for 10-12? There is not really anywhere to sit either, and it's not like a drive-in like BurgerMaster, so we opted to just order and take the food home. We got the classic cheeseburger and fries. It took forever to get the food though. There weren't that many people in front of us but it took like 30 minutes before our food was ready. People had told us this place was real good and to get the fry sauce. When we asked the cashier about it, he didn't seem to know anything about it, and noted that a bunch of people always ask about it. I dunno, maybe it's a joke Tacoma people play on new people? When we got to enjoy the food, I think it tasted a tiny bit better than Dicks, but the burger was tiny! And almost not toppings. It did not look super pleasant, but was fine enough to try.I wouldn't mind giving it another try next time we're in the area and need something small and inexpensive, but this first experience was not what I expected after all the locals raved about it.

Serious old school warm fuzzy feelings. Soft Serve Ice-Cream, huge burgers, hot fries, friendly service; who cares if there is no seating: just stuff your face on the tailgate of your truck My kind of place.

Our first chance to check out the revamped Frisco Freeze. We only ordered milkshakes and were richly rewarded with thick, malted ice cream goodness. The face lift looks grand! We will return soon to taste balance if menu.

Way back in the day, this was one of Tacoma's premier burger stands. They could compete with the likes of other locals like Frugal's, Burger Ranch and Jubilee. They possibly even rivaled the likes of Dick's Drive in from Seattle. They had an upper hand on their competition because they offered the fishwich and the shrimpwich. Conveniently located just a couple blocks from Tacoma General Hospital, they definitely had the medical community as clients and people came from all over for the nostalgia of a fresh burger from a locally owned walk-up burger stand. Over the years, Frisko Freeze had suffered from a lack of patronage from locals due to rising costs and a lack in the quality of products. Recently, Frisko Freeze went up for sale because for whatever reason, the owners had given up. Along comes a large conglomerate who owns multiple establishments across the country including some or your favorite local eateries. They buy up Frisko Freeze and immediately throw up a food truck in the parking lot originally labelled as Mike's burgers but soon afterward, you'd see a Frisko Freeze banner covering the Mike's logo. They conveniently served burgers and fries to customers while the original Frisko Freeze building was being restored to it's 1950's era look. On June 1st 2024, they had a grand re-opening and introduced the new Frisko Freeze as a throwback to the original yet there have been some very noticeable differences. The walk-in fridge has been moved outside of the building and there are brand new grills, deep fryers and shake machines inside. The space has been completely revamped and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. They have always had 2 walk up windows and a make-shift drive through yet only the drive through and window on the right hand side have been operational over the past years. Now it seems as if the window on the left is poised to be a working window to take orders yet it still remains closed and for good reason. When we placed our order at the right window, it still took nearly 40 minutes to receive our order. I honestly do not understand what takes so long to fry up one burger and drop a couple of orders of fries and an onion ring. If you plan on ordering food here, be prepared to spend some quality time waiting around for your food. FAST is not in thier repertoire. The fries are new and that is better than before but they still lack enough salt and the onion rings even though a large portion are still just your standard frozen rings from some local food service company like Cysco or Harbor. The burger did have some mayo with chopped lettuce and onion on the bottom and a smidge of ketchup and mustard on the top bun but over all, the burger was lacking in seasoning and very bland despite its toppings. They no longer offer the shrimpwich which in my opinion was the only reason to visit in the first place and if you want any kind of deal, the only combinations they offer are thier fish and chips or chicken strips with fries, otherwise you must order ala carte! We ordered a couple of shakes, and it seemed as if they were made before our food because by the time we received them, they were melted and warm. I honestly do not understand why it is so hard to push out orders for plain old burgers and fries but then again, I do not work there but the time that I had to wait for 1 burger, 2 fries, 1 onion rings and 2 shakes was more time than I'd like to wait for just a meal at a sit-down restaurant. I do not recommend wasting your time or money here at Frisko Freeze because the value is not there, the service is not there and the quality is not there. Keep looking and thanks for reading.
