Being a Military Family that has family that has Served in every generation going back before the American Revolutionary War, we have grandchildren now old enough for us to take them to Fresno, California's Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Here is a Veterans Memorial that is a model for what one should be for those who wrote a blank check to the United States of America for up to and including their life.Proudly wearing our Veterans hats, we entered into a marble-floored area the size of a large banquet hall which is the awe-inspiring entrance to the Veterans Memorial Museum, the "Home of the Legion of Valor". The ceilings are beautiful art, the walls are beautiful art, the very building itself, is all beautiful art. There we were warmly greeted by fellow Veterans, all volunteers committed daily to honoring all those who have Served. Each humbly thanked us for our Service.Staffed only by volunteers and supported in part by the City of Fresno, this very emotion-evoking museum lovingly houses thousands of framed citations, photographs, uniforms, equipment, exhibits, and Lesson Plans all from different eras that tell the story of courage, Duty, sacrifice, glory, and horror of America's wars as experienced by its individual service members. It tells well the stories of Valor when All Gave Some and Some Gave All. It fundamentally reminds us that all war is hell, and that we must never lightly enter into it, that war is always the last resort, that is always far better to sweat in Peace than bleed in war.The Museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is free.

Great place!!!! Super friendly staff, and really great displays for conflicts involving the US from WW I through Desert Storm. The kids and I had a great time exploring history through clothing, newspapers, great displays, and interactive audio recordings.Make sure you ask for the video that accompanies the fantastic mural in the balcony!! And the displays of often under values contributions of the Japanese Americans and Native Americans during WW II were great conversation openers with the teenagers.Wonderful way to spend around an hour or so in the air conditioning AND for free!

Fresno, you have an amazing Veterans Museum right in the middle of downtown! Take some time to go enjoy. Admission is free. Lots of impressive, authentic items from WW1, WW2, Korean and Vietnam wars. Today I went out of curiosity and I was shocked at just how much was there to see!

If you haven't been here, you should. I live in Orange County and stopped in with a friend. We walked in and were greeted by 3 Veterans. WWII, Korean War and a Viet Nam Veteran. All volunteers. Three of the best men you could ever meet, truly. They taught for this country and OUR FREEDOM. People forget... FREEDOM ISN'T FREE! Go to this museum and you will truly know it to be true! MK

Where can you see bazookas, bombs, rifles, guns, and cannons from real military artillery? Well that answer lies right here at the Legion of Valor Museum located in Downtown Fresno, this also happens to be where "the Gallows" a hollywood horror movie was shot. This museum isn't very huge probably about 6000-7000 sq. foot, but the exhibits are so extensive and innumerable that I just wished they had more space to showcase it. Nevertheless this museum is absolutely a must visit if your in Fresno visiting because not only that the building is beautiful and historical in value, but the lessons and things you get to see here is just spectacular, and this is coming from someone who isn't too fond about military stuff. The museum is FREE and parking is easy to find on the streets and lots located on each side of the building. Free parking in downtown Fresno on Saturdays so I would recommend coming on Saturday. Plan anywhere from 10-45 minutes here, and go across the street and visit the iconic Fresno water tower landmark. I saw uniforms from every war (WW1, WW2, Vietnam War, Korean War, War of Terrorism and etc), creepy gas masks, even a stretcher with a modeled wounded soldier. It was interesting yet haunting in some ways. This museums has pieces from battleships and also battle planes, pieces from the nazi era and also Japanese Kamikaze. It even showcased swords, guns , hand bombs and so much more, and don't worry nothing here is active so you are safe, it wont explode. It did feel a little creepy here, but I think thats part of the attraction and real appeal of every devastating war. There are war plane model hanging and war ship models and real pieces from battle ships. I just wished this place was bigger, the ceilings was really beautiful and spectacular. Ideal place to bring kids and definitely a must visit if your in Fresno.

An absolutely amazing experience for the family and a must see!! History of how our service men and woman fought for our freedom as Americans and it was such an honor to be able to have veterans explain the many historical treasure this museum provides for the all. There is no charge but it is well worth donating to keep everything preserved for everyone to enjoy and learn. A true Gem!!
