Awesome people! Amazing chocolate chip cookies! Great little roadside stop. They have a decent menu for their little eatery/bar. Restrooms for those traveling by. (Be sure to go inside the store and buy something, too!) Someone local makes and sells handcrafted cards there...check her display!

"You have to try their burger, it's the BEST," she said... "And the onion rings are great too!", she added. - Goddamn LIAR!!! Bwa'hahaha! So, this was the line my good friend, FoS, sold me on in making the 40 minute drive from Fresno. (Insert the sound of deflating ballon here; followed by an explosive WTF?!!")Store front - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=JPVMhCIkTtkwIrzuv55bkw&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQService was aw'ight, no frills; straight to bid'ness. The lady flinging burgers behind the grill looked none too happy or that simply could've been her standard, RBF. (No offense given, just calling it likes I sees it.) Think of a diner out in the middle of nowhere. It's the kind've place where most horror movies start, a gas station/market... 'Right before the killing begins. Yeh, a lot like that but with a ping pong table and a game of corn hole.Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=1O_65RqyM93SMGaoqwtD6A&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQOutdoor seating - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=0mJ8pfCOcbPCYNnF88AwwQ&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQWe brought the HAPA Boy in tow, my bully-pit. Da' HAPA joined me on my weekend roadtrip to Central California; agriculture community. The dog enjoys our roadtrips, plus he hadn't seen Val for a while. Dog-friendly; outdoor seating. There was a water bowl in the front that looked like it hadn't been changed in a while.Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=H6SUQACEQ_C4Rfij3ZBZ4g&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQBottomline, it was a less than thrilling experience; nothing notable to write home about BUT I need to give an honorable mention for the chocolate, peanut, butter shake; very good. A bit on the $$ side, ten bucks but how often am I in Tollhouse, CA, or anybody else as a matter of fact. (Total population, about 2,500 people.)Note: Tollhouse Market & Grill were out of onion rings, Val praised them for being the best. LOL - I will take her word for it because she also mentioned how "great" the burger was too. - PASS. ;P The order:BBQ Bacon Burger ($15) - Okay; could've used more BBQ sauce.Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=006N5iWOZbtHTDOqN795qw&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQSenior Cheese Burger ($9) - Sad looking bun - "did someone stomp on the bag before serving it?"Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=NJ3KJYp6rMKTVUpe_5hGsQ&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQChocolate, Butter, Banana Shake ($10) - Very good.Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=IaieDX_rTZ1HaB-0zqovmA&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQFries were okay.Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=lRxaCeUQYl3WHMkIqoEkpA&userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ------Ode to Tollhouse Market & Grill - Atop a hill, the Tollhouse stands, a forty-minute drive,Across the vast and winding roads, where time seemed to strive. Our hopes high and stomachs low, a meal we did seek,Unbeknownst the fickle fate, that lay at Tollhouse's peak.An ambiance quite muted, no cheer within the air,A server flat and disengaged, no smile or spark to share. The cook, in a fury, her brows in a deep furrow,Her anger like a lighthouse, in a sea of sorrow. We asked for their famed burgers, their reputation known afar,But 'twas a tale of glory, that now seemed subpar. The patties like the winter sun, of warmth they had no trace,Their flavor, once a symphony, now a commonplace. And oh the cruel jest! No onion rings to find,That crunchy, golden promise, just a memory in mind.A lapse in the menu, a void hard to fill,An unfortunate chapter in the tale of Tollhouse Grill.Yet amidst the disappointment, a surprise in a glass,A milkshake that tasted of memories, of childhood that's now past.Peanut butter, chocolate, banana in a blend,A symphony of sweetness, a solitary friend. So here's to the Tollhouse Grill, a saga bitter-sweet,The journey long, the service cold, the food not quite elite. But oh, that milkshake! A serenade to the tongue,In the heart of discontent, a melody unsung.------It wasn't horrible nor memorable; not worth the 40 minute drive. (Sigh) I don't blame them, I give full credit to Val. I can say one thing for sure, FoS is consistent! HA! Im joking!... 'Sort've.Overall rating: 3 Stars- Big Aloha!Food: 2+Ambiance: 3Service: 3Value: 3

4/22/23 getting breakfast for tomorrow. Veggie egg white omelet ordered with ham added, a biscuit and country potatoes. They do not allow you to sub an item for another. Short stack ordered as well. The worker was kind and said it would be ready. Definitely a long drive, but really nice views! Nice drive! Kept going and going and going. went in to get it. Very nice little place. Definitely a hidden gem and it is seriously hidden! Greeted upon walking in. The order was ready. Paid for the order and wished a good day! Small restaurant. Little bar when you walk in with tables to the right. They have nice outside seating too. Then you have great views! Little market to the left as well. Bathrooms are outside of the restaurant. Right by the outside seating area. It seemed like a stopping point for many to take a break at. There was a road bike rider that was taking a break after riding up. 4/23/23 Happy Sunday everyone! Order split. Half of the egg white veggie omelet with ham added was small, but still good with the fresh veggies and ham. Half of the biscuit was really good! Crisp ends. Yum! Half of the short stack pancakes Large! A lot! Two pancakes definitely seems more like four. Plump and full, delicious pancake! Definitely a favorite! Country potatoes were good. Seasoned. A little oily.I'm sure mother will feel the same when she wakes up to have hers.Good service and, overall, a really good breakfast! Especially with the awesome views driving to get it! Recommended!

Just stopped in here because my neighbor said that there was a good Italian restaurant in Toll House. I had never heard of it. It's called Pirozzi's. We went in to just get drinks, soda, or tea, and they were in the middle of cooking their famous Sunday sauce, grandma Flavia's recipe and ziti. You could smell the aroma of garlic, onions and tomato! Yum Yum.The only thing I can attest to are the cookies. The cookies were huge, gigantic saucer shaped cookies that were about an inch thick. The two that we bought were the sugar cookies and the chocolate chip. The chocolate chip was loaded with chocolate chips. It was oh so yummy. I thought that was going to be my favorite. But then the sugar cookie! It must've been a brown sugar cookie because it wasn't white the way you normally expected, and it had a beautiful minty green Tasty frosting on it with a little bit of sprinkles. That cookie was absolutely divine. It was so big you couldn't eat one. I had to split it with my driving mate. It was soft and moist and the frosting made it perfect. You can get any meal that you want at this Italian restaurant which is also a market and Grill. They open for breakfast at 8 o'clock served from 8 AM to 10:30 AM daily. They have yummy sounding entrées like two eggs with bacon or sausage, scrambled eggs with diced ham and cheese, ham, steak and eggs, and my absolute favorite chicken fried steak and eggs. I am going back for that. They also have pancakes, French, toast, biscuits and gravy, and you could have a Mimosa or bloody Mary!Lunch features 1/3 pound burgers and all burgers are served with french fries or substitute onion rings or a side salad. You could get a barbecue bacon burger, mushroom Swiss burger or patty melt. There is a jalapeño pepper, jack burger, and a bleu burger with grilled onions. Or if that's not your taste, you can get fish and chips, or chicken breast, chunks and fries. Salads are available chef salad or grilled chicken Caesar salad. There are plenty of sandwich choices such as a Reuben sandwich or a hot pastrami these are very hard to fine but here they are classic sandwiches! Meatball grinder a BLT grilled cheese for the kitties. There is some thing that they seem to feature called a Taylor ham sandwich, which I had never heard of. It's something from New Jersey. A jersey pork roll. It's served on a Kaiser roll with salt, pepper, American cheese, and ketchup. Some people put an egg on it. Their cold cut sandwiches feature boars head cold cuts, and they have club sandwiches, roast beef, turkey, pepperoni, provolone. They also have a small, junior and senior menu, they do Woodfire oven pizza catering, and make their own shakes and cobbler's for dessert.I haven't even gotten to the dinner's, which is what my friends were raving about because they had been here for their great Italian dinners. They have chicken piccata, which is the lemon cream with capers, chicken marsala, with marsala, wine, and chicken Milanese, or the breaded chicken in addition to eggplant Parmesan. They also have a ribeye, and a sausage and pepper sandwich. They also serve numerous pasta's, including spaghetti, carbonara, cavatappi with bacon and cheese, Ziti with marinara, which, apparently is grandma's secret recipe, and ziti puttanesca with garlic, chili, capers, Kalamata, olives, anchovies, tomatoes, topped with feta cheese. Honestly, this sounds like such a fantastic Italian restaurant and my traveling companions assured me it is top notch. I can't believe I've never heard of it and if the cookies are anything to it just you this is the place to hang out for Italian food in the mountains. I will be back.

The food for breakfast is ample. I'm a fat body and I could not finish the chicken fried steak and eggs I ordered. Choice of tater tots or country potatoes. A great cup of coffee here. It's not the weak stuff, one coffee bean shot through hot water. Refills on coffee too.I've had their hamburgers and they are delicious and filling. Very good attentive service.Delightful decor. Not sure of the theme but it is pleasing.A fair value in today's economy.

What a great little hidden gem. We decided to go on a drive on a sunny Saturday and found this place in the city of Tollhouse. Everyone was friendly and everyone there were locals except us. We had the best cookies and cream milkshake of our lives and a great French dip (I added grilled onions which was a great choice). The fries were breaded and delicious. They also had a nice outdoor area with cornhole, ping pong and a flat screen. If you are looking for a fun drive and a great breakfast or lunch, check them out, they will really appreciate the company! :-)

What a treat!!! Our trips to the foothills are too few & far between. But when we do go it's such a treat. We arrived around 11:30 trying to beat the lunch crowd. When you go make sure you give yourself time for food to be prepared, so worth the wait. Have been craving their Hamburger, came with 2 or 3 slices of tomato, chopped lettuce, lots of onions & the best dressing, meat cooked to perfection & fresh bun. Chose the Onion Rings (soooo good) as side, friend had Tater Tots as her side & really liked them. We got one of the super size Oatmeal cookies, loaded with chocolate chips - yum. Also ordered a French Dip to go to have for dinner. Was way too full from hamburger to have French dip that night. There are so many choices to choose from but we just love the hamburger. They serve breakfast, lunch & dinner. Highly recommend Tollhouse Market, the gals are super friendly & accommodating! Wish we could go there once a week. The patio area is so kick back & enjoyable. You can hear water running down stream behind seating area, ping pong table, corn hole if you choose. Go try them out!! Eat & support local.
