The Shires luxury apartments in Fresno, CA were very clean and overall staff was very friendly, the apartment itself was wonderful and the service was good. My only problem with them was I needed to move out two months early and they didn't try to work with me to let me leave without a penalty $, even a month earlier. They charged not only every month to the end but kept my deposit and charge me more due to carpet replacement. It might be ok in CA to be late on heir rent and or not to pay but I always did paid on time. I felt that because I was leaving they were trying to juice me for as much $ as hey could. Not sure! I left two months earlier because I had to, due to son medical issues.

We needed a place to live while our home was being built. We signed a six month lease. The unit we rented had been leased to a corporate account. We came to learn the complex rents out numerous apartments as 'corporate' leases. Think Airbnb for apartments. The apartment we leased was dirty when we arrived. We leased it sight unseen due to living out of town. We took it on faith the apartment would be clean. It wasn't.The kitchen sink had numerous deep chunks across the surface. We asked if they could repair it but was told the sink could not be used for 48 hours if we chose to have it fixed. How come they rented us a dirty apartment in disrepair? We documented the condition. The apartment upstairs was one of the Airbnb type rentals. Fresno police visited that apartment at least two times. Police visited two other apartments in our block of apartments over the six months we lived there. If you choose to live there on 4th of July get out of town for the night. The manager Kelly should have been on the premises that night to temper the fireworks chaos that lasted past 2:00 am.The complex claims to have a security service but we never saw it.The parking lot is gated but the gates are open all day. They are closed at night, thankfully.Maintenance when called was quick and Sam the maintenance supervisor is top notch. He is polite and very good at his job.One other good thing about the Shires 'Luxury' Apartments is the low deposit. You won't see it though. They charge $230 for carpet cleaning and another $200.+ for cleaning. Tenants cannot opt out of that.We left the place cleaner than we found it, by far, but were charged anyway. They also claimed it needed paint which it didn't. We received $140 back from our $700 deposit. The problem with the corporate Airbnb type setup is the noise by transient tenancy. Car doors slamming at 2 am, screaming couples at 4:00 am. It was horrible. Short term rental in an apartment environment is irresponsible corporate policy.Overnight and weekly guests have no investment in the complex so permanent residents can't evade the feeling they are living in a noisy resort. I gave The Shires two stars generously but the outstanding work by the Sammy the maintenance guy deserved some recognition. The 3 bedroom unit we were paying $2,300 per month for is listed for rent for rent up to $2,800. You should expect much more for that price.

Moved to Fresno for a short time but my time at this complex was superb. I couldn't have asked for a more quiet place to live. The staff from office to maintenance was friendly and responsive. The place is very clean and well kept. Working at Community downtown the short drive was well worth it!

Recently moved in here and so far, so good! :D As a brand new apartment complex (as in they *just* started taking residents last year and our unit has never been lived in by anybody but us!), they are GORGEOUS and definitely have that "new/modern" feeling/look. Hardwood floors everywhere except the bedrooms, dimmable overhead lighting and ceiling fans in every major room, huge patio on every apartment, lots of storage space, covered garages, plenty of guest parking, great amenities (pool, fitness center, lots of grass for frolicking), and an incredibly competent and friendly staff. They're managed by Manco Abbot, which is pretty much the best apartment management company in the central valley. As a Manco property, they stand by the "Customer Service Guarantee" that all work requests get done within 24 hours, and if you're unhappy with your apartment, you can break your lease and leave before the 30 day mark with no penalty. (I mean, you won't... but you could.) ;]They still have units available, but so far it's a good mix of young and old, singles, couples, and families, and is a nice, quiet, safe little community just minutes away from great Fresno restaurants, shopping, Target, Trader Joe's, Woodward Park, etc... and is in a Clovis school district! I mean, really? What more could you need? :]4 stars for now since we haven't lived here too long, but it *definitely* has the potential to be a 5-star place and will get the upgrade it deserves if time does the telling! (Which, based on how awesome the facility and staff have been so far, I am quite confident it will!)

The units are the best in town, granite on all counters and new appliances. The community is very quiet and well laid out. I would recommend this place to anyone, it is a great place to live while waiting to build a home because the unit feels so much like a home. A huge plus is ceiling fans in every room, which no other luxury apartments in Fresno have, trust me I checked.

I lived here for two years and had the best experience. Maintenance always came out quickly, quiet until small kids moved in next door, and convenient location. Would definitely recommend. Their office staff were so easy to work with.

Our company has been renting apartment at The Shires for several years and have had so much positive feedback from our guests. The apartments are large and have great finishes (granite counters, black appliances, vinyl plank flooring in the kitchen and bath and the dining area (no carpet under a dining table is a huge plus). Kelly and Tia in the office are both so helpful and great to work with and maintenance is very responsive whenever we have an work order.

When its over 100 degress outside, good luck getting your apartment lower than 83 during the night. I think the a/c units are not large enough to cool off my apartment. My PG&E bill was $240 and I couldn't sleep when Fresno was over 100 degrees. I just can't imagine paying that high of a bill to not be able to sleep at night because the unit could not cool off the apartment. I live upstairs and had the maintenance man over a couple of times, but he noted nothing was wrong. My unit ran 24/7 at 72 to 75 degrees and it would not cool down below 83. It was horrid and still is when its over 100 degrees outside. Everything else is great about these apartments. I just wish they built the a/c systems larger for the upstair's units.10-01-2013:This review was done in Aug 2013 after the visits from maintenance assuring me nothing is wrong with my a/c system. I wouldn't have commented negatively if the issue was fixed. Right now there is no problem, most likely due to our weather. When its not over 100 degrees, my unit works great..so I'm assuming the A/C systems are too small for these upstairs apartments. Under 100 degrees my a/c works great...over 100 degrees, my unit can't keep or stay cool. I postponed a surgery during August because I knew my unit had a hard time of keeping under 83 degrees during the 100+ degree weather. Now that the temperatures are in the 80's my a/c unit works great and I will have my surgery. Had the problem been fixed in July or August, this rating would not have been so low. I hope that makes sense.
