Studio West

I'm mixed with black and white, my hair is beyond unmanageable!! It's course and so thick, consequently it gets matted and tangles up really easy. I had a few bad experiences with non black hair stylist doing my hair. So for the last 20+years I only let black stylist do my hair. Yesterday I googled black hair salons. Even though they do advertise they are specialized in textured hair, you will read later that they are PRO'S at any hair texture. I called the salon. I spoke to Dawn, and I told her I had a few huge knots (like dreadlocks) and might have to cut them out after working on them the night before for 2 hours, and one one was beyond repair "so it seemed".Dawn gave me the break down of what she could try, so I went in. Her confidence and display of pure determination, made me say even if she wasn't a woman of color I was going to give her a shot. She took her time not to hurt me as much as she could. Obviously with these type of tangles it has to hurt a little, but for the most part it wasn't that bad. She kept checking in with me. So very sweet and determined not to have to cut them out, after I told her after the 2nd hour if she has to cut them out she could. I really thought that in the end my hair would not be salvageable. Wow was I wrong! She had put my hair in the wash bowel and applied the moisturize back into my hair. I had used Cantu Co Wash and another product, Shea Moisture that literally stripped the hair of any nutrients and the Shea Moisture left it with a wax/glue like feel that literally made the matted parts like a birds nest "4 hours later" sponge bomb tone lmao, my hair was totally untangled and she had also put some more products in my hair and put me under the hair dryer, with a plastic cap. The heat and products gave my hair life again. She and her husband Ron are 2 of the most nicest and genuinely cared about me and refused to let me cut my hair off. I started to tear up from happiness, the night before I was so distraught of the thought of losing my hair. I will be coming back in 2 weeks for Ron to address my grays, and have Dawn give me a facial and do my eyebrows. Yes she does all that too! Dawn you saved my life yesterday!

You not only get a great cut and color and a fantastic facial at Studio West, but you have a fun time in the process. Ron and Dawn are such cool people, and they care about their customers!

Ron and Dawn are beautician-magicians! I love how they always accommodate my difficult schedule and are customer service professionals while still being personable and friendly. I've been going to Ron for over 10 years and he knows which color and cut are best for my features. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a new stylist or a fresh new look.

Ron and Johnny are the best! They can make things happen even with my unruly, frizzy, curly, crazy hair! I have been going to Basics for about 2 years now, and will always go there even though I've moved away to Sacramento!

Wow!!I saw the reviews. I have curly hair and hadn't found a hairdresser that could cut my curly hair.I called and Dawn answered the phone and my questions. She set an appointment with Ron.Wow! Ron cut my hair perfectly, like he'd been cutting it for years! I am so impressed!!!Thank you Ron, I love my haircut!

Ron and crew are so fun, cool, professional and great. I walk in and tell them to do what they think will look good. I walk out looking GREAT! Always right on everytime!

I don't like to write negative reviews, but my experience with Studio West warrants it. I tried calling both phone numbers listed on their website and nobody answered. So, I completed the "contact us" form. I received a response the next evening telling me that they were completely booked two weeks out, but they would love to book me for a cut, so I responded with times that I had availability. After I hadn't received a response 4 days later, I sent another email asking if they had booked an appointment for me. Still no response and it's been a week. So, needless to say, if I could give this salon a -5 stars, I would. Totally unimpressed.

I came to Dawn and Ron after another stylist made my entire hair orange (I wanted a subtle balayage). We created a plan to get my hair to where I originally wanted it and and then some. I felt heard, understood, and taken care of. They always know the answer to any question. Not only that, but it is a great environment full of laughs. Now, 4 years later and I would not trust my hair to anyone else.

I fly from San Diego to Fresno to see Ron for a cut and color and Dawn for my waxing. The whole team is awesome!!!
