I love Sal's it's been around a very long time, and family owned and operated in the heart of Selma. I've been going here since I was a kid and the food is always top notch and has always stayed the same. Consistency is key that's what I like to say. The restaurant feels like home, it's always busy too. The staff is friendly, efficient and welcoming. We went the other day and my aunt ordered a weird mixture of items and they made exactly what she asked for and she loved it. I didn't take a picture of it because it looked like a pile of mush. We ordered 6 fancy burritos to go, 3 are heading back to Arizona for my uncle who grew up eating them. It's one of his favorite meals and always ask for her to bring them back home. And yes they make it back in an igloo and dry ice.

I hate to leave this review because I've been eating here for over 15 years, but tonight was really disappointing. My husband and I ordered a Fancy Burrito, just as we have many times before. When the food arrived, we were shocked at how small the portions were. At first, we assumed there had been a mistake and that we had been served the half-sized version. Since the restaurant was busy, we decided to just go with it. However, when the bill came, we saw that we had been charged for two full Fancy Burritos. We politely pointed this out to our waitress, who insisted that what we received was the full-sized burrito. When I explained that I've been coming here for over 15 years and had never seen the portion this small, she responded that the owner recently cracked down on how much food is put in the Fancy Burrito. It felt like an excuse, and she didn't seem interested in addressing the issue. We don't like to be confrontational, so we paid and left, but after all these years, we won't be returning. To be clear, the food itself is still authentic and delicious, and the flavor is not why we won't be back. The problem is that a dish we've ordered many times was suddenly much smaller, yet we were still charged the same price, with no real explanation or effort to make it right. It's disappointing, and unfortunately, that's enough for us to take our business elsewhere.

What can I say about Sal's that probably hasn't already been said? I've been eating here since I was a little girl and it's still great. I love the salsa served with the chips and the entrees are always good and cheesy! The building itself hasn't changed much over the years. It's a family restaurant that serves good food fast and the service is really friendly. I was impressed with how efficient the place has gotten with seating. I was there on a weekend during lunch so there were quite a few people waiting to get seated. The hostess and wait staff were really good at getting people seated quickly and efficiently. We waited maybe ten minutes and everything came out quick and delicious. If you're in the Selma area, Sal's is always a good option for lunch or dinner.

This was my first time visiting this restaurant in Selma. I have visited the other Sal's in Fresno and Madera. They were both good and this one did not disappoint either. I had chili verde with chips and a salad. Both were delicious and I would definitely come back.

A home cooked meal! Service was convenient and fast. The sals special, a taco, enchilada, and chile relleno was excellent and a ton of food. Great place for a family gathering. The restaurant had easy parking and was safe and clean.

I've visited Sal's Mexican Restaurant three times over the past six years. Located in a small town about 35 minutes from where I live, I don't get to this area often, but many friends highly recommend Sal's, swearing by its reputation. The restaurant was busy, and we had to wait about 5-10 minutes to be seated, which was fortunate as others who arrived after us waited longer. The place was bustling, filled with the noise and energy of a packed house.Regarding the food, it wasn't quite to my taste. I understand that family-run businesses each have their unique recipes, and while I'm not saying the food was bad, it simply didn't meet my expectations. However, given the consistent crowd and its 40+ years of operation, I acknowledge that my lack of enthusiasm is likely based on personal preference.I ordered the Carne Asada burrito with rice and beans, onion, cabbage, and cilantro. Each person is given a small serving of salsa, and there's a shared bowl of chips for the table. My wife had the shredded beef nachos, which I sampled; they were decent. We both felt the food needed more spice, but again, that's a personal preference. Our cousins seemed to enjoy their meals without any complaints. The staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant, including the bathrooms and table, was clean. One point to note: the booth tables are smaller than typical, making it a bit cramped for four people to eat comfortably without getting in each other's way.I will return to Sal's, not for a special trip but to enjoy the company of friends. I believe most people will not have a bad experience here. My experience wasn't bad, just not exceptional. The constant crowd is a testament to its popularity. They also have a bar with mixed drinks and beer, which I plan to try on my next visit.

I would like to provide an impartial and thorough evaluation of this well-known establishment in Fresno County. My father grew up in Selma, California, and the original owners, Sal and Eleanor Salazar, were close friends with my parents. I remember my parents helping the Salazars with their annual tamale sale during the Christmas season at the original restaurant established in 1942 on the old 99 freeway, also known as the Golden State Highway. After Mr. Salazar's passing, Carl and Bobby Salazar continued their parents' legacy by recreating authentic and flavorful dishes, including the signature slowly cooked shredded beef that is so tender it can be eaten without a knife. Recently, while in town for a family funeral, I decided to take my wife to experience the Short Rib burrito with my preferred Chili-Con Carne baste. As a food enthusiast, I also ordered the shredded beef taco, without informing my wife and picky teenager. My wife and I live in Nevada, and she had never tried this burrito before. I knew she would provide an impartial assessment because she enjoys cooking homemade dishes from scratch and blending her favorite chili from our garden to prepare Mexican cuisine. As she took a bite of the burrito, I noticed her expression of approval as she exclaimed, "Wow, this is incredible!"One thing I can say with certainty is that Carl Salazar's and the Sal's establishment maintain the same distinctive flavor and taste that I remember from my childhood. I'm sure that Sal and Eleanor are incredibly proud of Carl for preserving this family's secret of authentic flavors since 1942.

My family and I have been patrons of Sal's for many years. We have had no issues with the restaurant in the past except for today. This morning the family met there for breakfast. As we received our food one member stated their tamale in the dish was cold. They sent it back to be rewarmed Soon after, I received my order of Machaca. I began eating and the rice was refrigerator cold. I told the waitress. She said the chef always makes sure the food is hot. Excuse me? Who is the paying customer here? Her or me? She took food back. Chef needs a thermometer to check the food before sending it out

Aside from the fact that Sals conveniently sits at the midpoint of my LA to Sacto drive, this place will forever by my lunch or dinner stop for the food. The enchilada suiza are the best I've ever had. Salty with just enough heat. The tacos have the right amount of crunch and a generous portion of shredded beef. The service is friendly, attentive and efficient.
