I like this place. She has both used and new books. Where can you even find a book store these days? Seriously there is barely any, anywhere! Unless you go online or get an EBook. There is nothing like physically turning pages on a novel. Yes there's books everywhere. What do you expect? Duh. Anyways I have 4 stars because she didn't have a little light I could buy to read in the dark. Not a huge deal but wanted to be honest. I picked out "the secret keeper" by kate Morton hard copy, used for $19. Originally $27 and it's in great shape. I don't feel I was ripped off or overcharged. Again, I am happy I found an actual book store with amazing selection of books. The pages are crisp nothing bent. I'm happy with my purchase and wanted to let everyone know.

Book stores are almost a thing of the past. What a pleasure to find such a wonderful place to browse with an amazing selection of books, both new and gently used. If you can't find what your looking for, Joanne, the owner can find it for you. I Highly recommend this place to any serious bibliophile

In such a small town a good bookstore is key. Phoenix does a great job. Whatever genre you are looking for I'm sure they have something, I mean seriously... Books EVERYwhere in this place. The only negative it the dust, there are some pretty old books and dusty corners here, so I always try and limit my stay. Prices are great and they even keep new books on hand, mostly the ones that the high schools are teaching that year.

I would honestly rate this store a -10. The owner is the rudest woman I have ever met. The shelves are crammed every which way with books, none of them in any order I could discern. The store is very small, hardly enough room to walk between isles (if you could find anything anyway). I tried to purchase some books that I did manage to find, that were very obviously used, and the owner tried to charge me MORE then the *new* price listed on the book! When I tried to explain that the book was obviously used, and not even marked new at the price she quoted, she told me "then go put it back!" If this is how she does business, it is a miracle that her store is even still open. Needless to say, I will never be stopping in this store again. Sad, since this is the ONLY bookstore in Los Banos. I now have to drive out of my way (45 mins- 1 hour) to either Gilroy or Merced to find my books at Barnes & Noble. At least their service makes it worthwhile!

Save your time and money and go to Barnes and nobles The bookstore owner can be rude 8/10 times you go , you can't really walk anywhere because there's literally no space , everything is just cramped and shoved , disorganized and the prices on used books are ridiculous.

This used/new book store is a real treasure. The owner knows tons of info on all kinds of book related topics, and especially on regional/California subjects, keeps a good selection of them in stock. Any good book store, should have the possibility for many hidden 'treasures.' This store is a treasure hunter's dream. If the book is not in stock, she will search for you. Terrific service!!!!I moved to the area, several years ago, with my family, from the rat race of SF/Bay area. There are many local events and fundraisers by the local merchants, and the store owner always seems to be involved and helping. Incredible, a great store and involved owner?? Where do you find that anymore?? I've also heard that she does all kinds of extras for long time customers, locals. She is held in high regard by other business owners, locals, and anyone I've met. Although we miss many of the big city amenities we left behind, in the Bay, we've added much to our quality of life. Having a local resource like this is high on the list!!!

If you love used bookstores with books piled high and on the floor and everyone section you look through you find a treasure and if you are looking for something specific, you might find the owner knee deep in books and a computer and her dog will bark at you and you will ask her where something is and she will take you straight to it and you can spend hours there and, if you are lucky, she will spend a moment telling you a bit about the book or the author. This is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon or just 10 minutes.
