Today Oakmont of Fresno had their Thanksgiving feast for residents and the families of the residents. They had posters up inviting the families for at least 3 to 4 wks prior, my complaint is we were required to preregister and pay the day of the event. Well to my surprise they charged or should I say over charged the families a price of $25 each person. Which to us and alot of the other families thru conversation was way too much! We already pay quite a bit each month for our loved ones care.....I was told twice when I inquired about the price & each time was told it would be the same price as any lunch there $8. I would of appreciated it if I was told the correct amount at preregistration. Unfortunately not all families can afford that price to spend with their loved one.

Memory care is filthy. Save your money this place is expensive, dirty and subpar. There's a complete disconnect at this facility where memory staff don't want to clean anything or even shower residents because they rather watch YouTube on their cell phones. The housekeeping manager says it's caregivers job to clean residents filth from the memory care side and caregivers say it's housekeepings job. So nothing ever gets cleaned. If you want your loved one to be rudely spoken to by new employees on Night Shift and AM shift who don't want to identify themselves or wear name tags and rough talk and handle your parent then this is the place for you. If you're okay with your family contracting fungal, Uti and sepsis infections and residents having injuries saying female staff beat them on the head; you've definitely found the right place. There's been multiple deaths recently. Save your family. Don't bring them here.

Our mother has been at Oakmont since March '21. While there were adjustments to be made in going from independent to assisted living, we have found this to be a good experience. The staff has been very consistent in providing for our mom, there are many opportunities for social gatherings (unless there is a quarantine). The in house restaurant is very nice and wait staff is provided with white table clothes and residents as well as visitors order from a menu. Our mother has a 2 bedroom apartment and is basically an independent resident (96). However, when additional care is needed it is there and my family has peace of mind. I only give 4 stars because I am kind of a clean freak and sometimes I am not happy with housecleaning. It's not bad just not up to my personal standards.

The appeal of expensive, assisted living is the 24*7 personalized care, and socialization of a person in need. Oakmont - Fresno, has a beautiful building with spacious rooms, but what makes a good assisted living place? Caring, involved and professional staff who know how to listen, care and 'assist'. In February, when we placed a loved one there, it looked great. After the Covid-19 epidemic began services, organization and management clarity slipped. Before the epidemic, residents had lots of activities, a nice dining room and good food. Almost all activities have been cancelled, and residents have been on room restrictions for a long period of time. There is supposed to be an effort to do 1:1 interaction, the extent of which seems woefully inadequate. There was little notice or communication to family members concerning the level of changes. It was all glossed over in the umbrella of caring to ensure no Covid-19 reaches the resident, safety, and security. No visitors. The dining room reopened and then shut down again due to an active Covid-19 case; food once again is delivered to the room and the choices are extremely limited. We received numerous calls from my brother in law, saying he was hungry these past few months, spurring my sister and I to bring over additional meals and snacks. My brother in law needs physical and mental stimulation to keep his cognitive functions. Those factors were part of a key service commitment made by the executive director(s). His speech and mobility declined rapidly in this "locked down" environment. In less than 6 months he is on a walker, defensive and surly, and speech and physical movement has seen an accelerated decline. Because of this, my sister and I went to remove him from Oakmont- Fresno facility last week (in the middle of an epidemic). His room was shockingly filthy! The bathroom floor and fixtures were sticky and unclean. The couch and chairs were full of food debris, and there were even human waste stains on the furniture. It looked like the room had not been cleaned in weeks! His clothes were not laundered as requested and agreed to speed along departure. We packed his clean clothes, but about half needed to be laundered. His hair and fingernails had grown long, and he needed a shave. This is not the level of services we expected. Even in the face of a pandemic, an assisted living facility should have a continuity of care plan. Especially for a facility of this caliber. In the past month, due to my sisters' constant 'complaining', the newest health director reassessed his care at 5X. Oakmont requested additional funds to care for him. There is no doubt in my mind; they were not providing the expected level of service he needed/required. This constant struggle/complaining did nothing to lift the burden of care taking (worrying), off my sister's plate for all the money she spent (and feels wasted). This is at best a senior's dorm room with marginal assistance. Interview wisely is my advice.
