I've been coming here for years as they are one of the few places in town that sell English Tea, chocolate bars and digestive biscuits ( cookies to dip in tea). Just walking in to New India Sweets and Spices is a magical experience! Let your eyes feast on the myriad of colorful sweets to your right, including gulab jamun and other delicacies made with pistachios, cardamom, coconut and other colorful ingredients! Then take your time checking out each aisle. They have a variety of rice imported from India, with several brands of Basmati which is the staple used in Indian Cuisine. Next you'll encounter the pickles and chutneys that normally accompany an Indian meal. My favorite is Mango Chutney. Fresh produce is located to your left and refrigerated & frozen items are in the same area and at the back, including frozen meals such as samosas, curry/rice etc. Then there's Kulfi ice cream, lassi ( yoghurt) drinks, and other dairy essentials. At the very back is the cafe specializing in Chaat, the sweet, spicy Indian Street Food. My go to order is Samosa Chana Chaat; 2 crispy samosas in a bed of chickpeas, smothered in zesty yoghurt sauce, with tomatoes, cilantro topping. Delish!! Aloo Parantha is a kids' favorite; flatbread stuffed with spicy potatoes. Stimulate your palate by browsing the pungent incense sticks while your order is being prepared. Ayurvedic supplements are also available at more reasonable prices than health food stores. They have turmeric, neen and my lifesaver Ashwagandha which reduces stress, and helps painful joints. I am so glad we have this gem of a store here in the heart of the city!

In the mood for something new or something familiar in Indian cuisine. Then look no further, at New India Sweet & Spices store. First time here, parking is open and available nearby. This establishment has both it's a grocery store and a restaurant. With friendly staff that listens to the customers. The ambiance is soothing with the music they play in the store and there are TVs located inside with the last sports channels. There are so many options to the items in this place to choose from. Overall I highly recommend you stopping by and check out New India Sweet & Spices located on Shaw.

1/23/24 Getting samosas to go with leftover lunch! Greeted by nice worker. Ordered veggie samosas. I was told, they are just opening. Going to be 5 min. Waited. They only have vegetarian foods. No meats. FYI. Indian music playing. Safe, clean & practiced. Definitely have a bunch of different Indian groceries & goods! Waited a little longer. Order brought shortly later with an apology for the wait. Appreciated! Lunchtime! 1 order comes with 2 samosas. Giving mother the other when she has lunch on another day. My samosa was Really Delicious! Nice crunch & Great side sauces! Good service & Great samosas! Inexpensive too! Highly recommended!

Have been going here for years with no problems, however, the last two visits were the exception. Two times we have ordered Saag as well as other items from their kitchen. Both times the Saag was bitter, I'm assuming either left out or old. I called and advised them of this and both times no apology. My family and I will no longer order anything from the kitchen. I used to recommend this place all the time, never again.

Ordered a masala dosa. It was very oily, kind of chapati not thin. It was cold and peas were like hard rock. Not much taste. All the chatniese that came with were tasteless or pretty old. Few flies were flying around in the dinning area no one care. I'll not recommend to anyone to eat at this place.
