I have lived very close to this nursery for 7 years. I began to learn a bit about bonsais so decided to check it out. What a treasure I have found!!! The owner onsite is a wealth of information and very willing to help with questions and understanding . The vast amount of fantastic bonsai trees in various stages will blow your mind. It's so worth seeing even if bonsai isn't your thing. Gift shop carries books, bonsai pots and incredible Japanese incense. I encourage anyone to stop here and explore. There's no place like this in Fresno.

There are places in the middle of Fresno where peace can be found. New-Hai Bonsai is such a place. It is in the middle of traffic, commercial and industrial businesses and if you are not paying attention you will pass right by it. This not a bonsai park or garden but a place selling bonsai made by Grey, bonsai master. I don't want to hype it because it is contrary to the spirit of the place. I just thought I would share it.

I stopped in hoping I could find a good book for a beginner. The owner is so warm and friendly that I spent a good hour chatting about all sorts of things. When I left, I had the book I'd been hoping for as well as a couple of succulents, some rock, and a brand new pot. If it hadn't been such a hot day I could have easily spent more time ( and more money) there. Looking forward to going back for supplies once I finish the book so I can get started on my own little tree in a pot.

Highly impressed with the price + quality of the lovely saplings and specimen trees at this nursery-- but the owner's kind, highly knowledgeable customer service is what really compelled me to write this review (which hasn't happened in so long, I forgot my login + had to make a new account just to post it!)To put it simply, the owner, Grey Anderson, REALLY knows what he is talking about. Though I have countless succulent and cactus children already, I had only ever owned one bonsai before visiting Nee-Hai (which I didn't study up nearly enough about when it was mine). All I came prepared with was an intermediate knowledge from reading up, very little proper hands-on experience, and a strong willingness to learn. As it turns out though, Grey holds in the highest value the spirit and vigor of a novice bonsai enthusiast, which we discussed in depth-- and for this reason I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND visiting this nursery if you're a BEGINNER thinking of getting into bonsai, to buy a first tree, etc. That said, you should definitely visit if you've got established knowledge, too-- just that if you feel intimidated by trying something new, lack of knowledge, or are afraid of killing a tree old enough to be in the 4th grade, like the 10yo one I left with, I get you-- you're in good hands with Grey.Though I'm only 23 (and honestly look like I'm 15 and clueless), I was allowed to wander the grounds of his nursery for what must have been an hour at least-- giving me generous freedom to explore as slowly as I wanted-- while also casually checking in with me now and then to make sure I had all my questions answered. His presence was ever imposing, nor making me feel rushed.Be sure to take a peek at the warm, quaint indoor selection, where you'll find a variety of high quality bonsai tools for pruning and whatnot, ceramic pots (for bonsai and tea!), bonsai books and magazines (some in Japanese, some English), mudmen, and some other great imported goods for bonsai and otherwise. I swear, I would come back every week given the hobbies we share, Grey's willingness to share his knowledge, and the sheer friendliness he displayed in our first meeting, but at about 40 mins from my Clovis home, I might have to settle for once a month instead. Two things are certain though: I will be back soon (with my sketchbook, to trade art with Grey!), and I would very highly recommend this nursery to ANYONE. Period.

This place is amazing. All of the bonsai are ridiculously healthy, and the owner is the warmest, most wonderful man you'll ever meet. I came in stressed about my day and left without a care in the world. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and helped me pick out a beginner's bonsai - a Chinese elm. I love this place. Highly recommend.

I bought a Sago here for a very reasonable price. Not a lot of plants, but I enjoyed talking with the owner.

Grey is knowledgeable and personable. He usually has the answer for questions about the care of Bonsai, and if he doesn't he'll find the information. Large selection too...

There are very few places in California to see and buy bonsai, and get bonsai advice. New-Hai Bonsai is a fantastic place to do all of the above. They have styled bonsai ready to go as well as plant material for the enthusiast who wants to style their own.
