Mixed Messages Art

So much to see in this compact gallery of treasures! There is a sense of awe from the moment we stepped foot inside this 600 square foot building that sits on the edge of the parking lot of The Oasis in Sanger. We found brightly-colored whimsy in every corner that lifts the spirits. Every piece of art has a story embedded in it and who is the story-teller? Artist Kathleen Mattox was our tour guide through her own art, as well as that of numerous other artists that have their work beautifully displayed. Adding to the sense of colorful magic inside the gallery is a gentle studio kitty that doesn't know how gorgeous it is or that it has only 3 legs. My 94 year old mom was excited to find earrings in her favorite colors. We agreed we must go back. There is too much to enjoy in just one visit and we don't want to miss anything

Probably like many, I've driven through Sanger on my to somewhere else. I've also driven through Sanger when on the Blossom Trail, but I've never stopped in downtown and had a look around. Until last week when Basilwood Farms brought their goatsmilk soap to Mixed Messages Art in downtown Sanger. That was enough of a carrot to prompt a trip to Sanger.Mixed Messages Art is just off Academy Avenue, the main thoroughfare through Sanger. The road connects Fresno with Sanger if you want a lovely drive in the country. You may have to park around the corner, though, as street parking is limited right in front of the tiny art studio.The studio was once someone's home, a very tiny home, but a home none the less. Kathleen Mattox has turned the tiny home into a riot of colorful artwork, with each room more vibrant than the previous. Even the bathroom is filled to the ceiling with wonderful, one of a kind, pieces. You have to look and look again to see everything.Most of the pieces that are displayed are Kathleen's own work, and they are beautiful with so much color. She also carries other's artwork in the studio. There is a wide variety of jewelry, also. Take a trip to Sanger. Park and walk around. Stop in Mixed Messages Art. You will be delighted.

This is my go-to happy place. Kathleen, the artist who owns this little treasure of an art gallery makes the most colorful and whimsical art. It's impossible to be in a bad mood if you are in here. She has occasional themed events too that are always fun. It's a hidden gem tucked away in the parking lot of the Oasis bar. If you're in Sanger, I highly recommend stopping in and watch the artist at work. The items available to purchase range from large original paintings to smaller pieces, prints and greeting cards. She works in all different kinds of media so you'll find watercolors, acrylic paintings, hand sewn items, paper crafts and so much more. She also features the work of 8 or 9 other local artists so you'll also find ceramics, jewelry, wirework, soaps and lotions from Basilwood Farms and local honey.

Love this gem! Do yourself a favor and drive to Sanger for this visual treat. So many colorful pieces. Quite a selection if you want to get someone a special gift or like me, I got myself a beautiful painting! The owner is just the sweetest.
