Found this gem while driving through downtown a while back and finally had an opportunity to stop in. Finding Mexican ingredients for cooking is often limited at bigger chain stores which makes this a blessing. With the holidays coming up, it means it's almost tamale making time.Further, while not having tried their burritos I did notice one being made which was the size comparable to the end of a baseball bat, huge. Can't wait to buy one. Out is easily two meals in size.

This review is for the take out restaurant inside the store, not the actual store. It's located next to the back entrance of the store. You order and get your food, and pay at the store's check out. So far we've bought carnitas (about $8 a pound, I believe), a chile verde burrito, carnitas burrito (both under $5) and tacos ($1.49) and they've all been above average. The burritos are huge and they add a lot of meat. The carnitas burrito was one of the best I've ever had. For chile verde burritos... I'd still go to Jalisco's, but for all other meats, this place seems better. They also offer other items like tamales, breakfast burritos, tortas, taquitos, and sometimes menudo and pozole. The lady mentioned orders can be called in if you'd rather not wait. Low prices + good quality + good portion sizes = 5 stars for me. It's at least worth a try.

Just had the best Carnitas burrito from a meat market ever. Perfect mixture of meat beans and rice, definitely did not skimp on the meat. Topped off with diced onions cilantro and dried red pepper chili salsa. The Carnitas were crispy yet moist and succulent. If I had to make a complaint the Carnitas were little greasy but I'm good with that. Wish I had a scale to weigh it, definitely got my $5.50 worth!

The hot food at the takeout counter is really good! I usually don't write reviews but I think it deserves mentioning that they have several options available that feature fish or meatless items appropriate for Lent, like shrimp fajitas and chile rellenos. Everything I've tried is good and the price is unbeatable. The staff is friendly and working hard to serve customers as quickly as possible without compromising quality.

The last 3 times I got chicharones they were burned. They were so dry they had to be thrown out. The carnitas had bones in them too. The young man in the kitchen is not receptive to any feedback. The last time I requested not to have burned chicharones and he again gave me dry chicharones, almost as though he wanted to teach me a lesson for saying anything about it. Not professional. And quality of food has not been good last 3 times. It is too bad, because otherwise this is a nice place and chicharones are very tasty when not dessicated.
