H & W Drive In

H&W Drive In is a cool local spot in Merced. This was not a drive thru fast food restaurant. But, more of a drive in (hence the name) or walk up place. Customers can either drive up to order and have the food delivered to their car. Or, can walk up to the window to place orders to eat at the tables outside or take to-go. The staff was nice. Orders came out quickly.We tried a few of their items - Tuna Sub, Bacon Cheeseburger, Patty Melt, Fries, and Onion Rings. Their fries are crinkle cut in case that matters to you. We enjoyed all of the food. They were all well made and tasty. And the portions seemed to be on the larger size. Prices were quite reasonable. We would go back again if ever in the area.

Located this gem based off other yelp's reviews, IT DIDN'T DISAPPOINT! A must if you want a classic burger, fires and cold coke. The Philly cheese steak was also !Grabbed a shake for the road, another win! If you're in Merced, go here!FYI they don't have bottle water.

Burgers tasty. Onion rings are bomb. Love the season on the fries wish the put that seasoning on the tater tots. Maybe I wouldn't have just tasted grease. Loved the car hop service. Three burgers & 3 sides no drinks under $32.00.

Food was horrible.Service was ok ate outside. Dissatisfied with food which was lukewarm and greasy.Burger was average messy and greasy.Will not be eating again there.

Ordered this from Door Dash this was the juiciest burger I've ever had in Merced ! Can't wait to go again

In any new city I'm passing through, especially the small towns, I always look for the local burger spot, which took me to HW.First thing you'll notice is the prices. Coming from the Bay, whenever I see burgers under $9 I'm going to salivate. I decided to go with a double western burger and fries. Aside from the giant hair I got in the first bite, it was a tasty burger. Meat was juicy, crispy onion rings, and really filling. My only wish was that it had some mayo, I think it was missing something to bring it all together but I still enjoyed it.The food wasn't super quick, but I wasn't in a rush so no big deal. It's old school with the option to order from your car while a waitress comes up to you to order. They also have an ordering window for to-go OR if you want to sit at one of their many outdoor tables, a server can take your order from there. Overall, not a bad spot to stop for an affordable and quick meal in Merced.

Best burgers in town. Usually a 10 to 15 minute wait. Staff is always friendly. Everything from burgers to sandwiches and the mozzarella cheese sticks are great!

The food? Good. The people? Good.It's hard to really complain about this place really. Most of the 1 star reviews I see these days are often from people who are likely either lying or actually gave some mega complex order with so many ins and outs that of course the chefs are going to mess it up.There's a reason why this place is rated so high and it shows. Father used to bring me all the time, I brought a friend recently from out of state. He ordered a philly cheesesteak, plain, and he had 0 complaints about it. If you want simple food, if you want reliably priced food (with funny fast food places charging the same amount for slop), If you want to feel comfortable, this is it, this is the place; there's not many around here, so it's nice to have one.The only thing I can say that's negative is that when it's dinnertime, it does get busy, but that really isn't a negative so much as it is a showing that this place is popular and attracts alot of people, must like practically every other place.Best time to come is in the early afternoon; there's still some people sure, but at most, 2-3 people usually.

I'm just a bit disappointed. I come here a lot and I always get the chicken salad. Today I asked for extra chicken just to make sure I was getting my protein intake. I was charged $4.99 for additional chicken so the total of the salad came close to $13. When I received it, it looks like the standard order of regular chicken. I did bring it up to them, but the kitchen said they gave me extra so. Unfortunately I have to go find my salad elsewhere. I just feel like if they see me so often here and I took the time to mention it to them, they could of at least offered a remedy.

The fact that this lady is handling my burger with her bare hands is disgusting they answered was her hands are clean. in this day and age!
