El Tapatío is a Porterville institution. if you have not been and are in the area, they are certainly worth the visit. Expect giant portions and delicious fresh tostadas to go with their house salsa. Even after eating a large lunch I had enough leftovers to share between my wife and I for dinner. They were very busy at lunch, so was a little bit slow, but that can be forgiven because the value is there.

Love this place. We've been eating here for over 30 years and the service and food has stayed consistent. Beans and rice sound simple but you'd be surprised how many can mess that up or just give you old greasy rice. Not El Tap there beans and rice are always fresh and delicious. There food never tastes like old grease. Heads up there mole is a love it or hate it. We like it even though not super authentic. It's little on the sweet side. Just forewarning so you know what you're getting into. There cocktails are great too. Enjoy

Margaritas were unexpectedly great! Tried the mole. It's rich and chocolately. Honestly could possibly serve 2 people because of how rich it was. Definitely our new go to place when we visit Porterville.

Reasonably good with ginormous portions. Piping hot and tasty.Staff was very attentive and engaging. A nice local hangout for families (especially because of the portions. It seemed like a family style. I was looking for the 3 other families who were going to help me eat. I couldn't finish it)

Family owned businesses come and go with time, but the best ones live generation after generation with recipes and techniques that are handed down again and again. El Tapatio is definitely the best. Local family owned and operated....an owner is never far from front and center to ensure things are being operated as expected and customer service is top notch. While I have probably ordered each and every thing on the menu in my 40 years of coming here my taste buds inherently chose the "2 Flour Flautas with Rice and Beans." They tasted as amazing today as I remember them 40 years ago and were served with the same quick and polite customer service as they were back then. While the ambiance has changed over time with upgrades and improvements, the feel is still the same; family, friends, upbeat with a flare of local and community you won't get at any other Mexican Food restaurant in town. If you are a chips and salsa connoisseur...you WON'T find better...EVER! If you love "ever flowing" ice tea....you won't be sorry coming here, but the food is simply historic, delectable and beyond top notch.

El Tapatio is one of my comfort spots. My grandparents loved this place, my parents have always eaten here, and now I do too. The atmosphere here is relaxed, and the food is authentically delicious! Many of the dishes are similar to my family's cooking so I appreciate the nostalgia I get when I am there. The portion sizes are generous; I often share a dish with someone else. I highly recommend their burrito or nachos for sharing, as both are huge! I also enjoy their tacos, camarones a la diabla, and the tostada mixta. I also like that many dishes can come with a combo plate of beans and rice (I'd recommend getting the beans refried if you're up for something delicious, even if it's not the healthiest!)

Two months ago, I decided to try El Tapito in Porterville since I would always hear good stuff about it from friends and coworkers. But I had a horrible experience. The waiter was super rude and did not provide a great customer experience. As for the food, it was good but not great, and since it was pricy, it could have been better. Overall, I just had a bad experience and didn't meet the expectations I had in my mind.

Service was ok. Kind of felt like our waitress was upset but not at us so that is understandable. The food is what was a letdown. I was excited to order a $25 plate of chile verde only to find out it was beef and not very good tasting(idk tasted like cachete but in a carne en su jugo type sauce). I would redo the menu and note that it's beef chile verde. Misleading to me at least unless I misread the menu. My wife ordered a chicken enchilada and the chicken was dry as well. Our first and only time here since we are not from Porterville. I apologize and hope it was just a blip for all of us.

Closes before their posted business hours due to "we got too busy." Been coming here for over 30 years and the thing that keeps making me want to never come back is their sorry excuse for hours. What restaurant closes at 7?! Or 6:15, or whatever time they see fit because whatever fake BS reason.
