Love Dinkey Creek Campground. A visit this summer was our first since the bridge collapsed. Very sad to see it like that. The graffiti was pretty disgusting, too. The hubby had been camping at DC since his children were little, and they continue to go there with their kids. Anyway, it's clean up there, the sites are nice, the showers are clean. It's very peaceful. Wish we could get up there more frequently.

Super nice place, quiet setting nice little hidden trails and water holes. Only thing wasn't thrilled about was inoperable toilets and didn't have free showers. Other than that it's a great family oriented place and setting.

A solid campground and creek experience. I'll start my review with the main negative. There will always be rude campers in California and Dinkey Ceeek is no different. First night camping and there was a group of 4 families (all parked at different sites in the same area) and decided to congregate in the lot next to ours.. It was like 11:30 PM before the loud drunk hyena laughing stopped. They weren't the only jerks here, but they were the closest to us. The good news was that the camp hosts did speak with them the next day and they were less loud going forward.. Moral of the story is to complain if you're neighbors are noisy after quiet time (10pm).- The price of a shower token at the market is $2.50 for 4 minutes. Read the instructions before using the token, it's confusing. The shower itself is small and pretty gross. - It's a relatively short drive to the McKinley Sequoia grove. Recommended.- Spending a day on one of Shaver Lake's beaches is well worth it. Highly recommend. - The Honeymoon pool and the slides are both cool experiences. Unfortunately too many day-users are pigs and leave tons of trash behind.- No internet or cell service.- Not many mosquitoes.- Sites 81 is pretty good as it only has one neighbor.- Hiking trails are few and far between and they're not very well maintained. There is one one trail to the old logging mill. Highly recommended ( you can also drive to the mill).Tip - There's a secret pool and slide area next to camp. Message me for location, it's in the campground.

You can never quite tell what kind of animals you will meet at a place like this! We saw a snake kill a fish! And one camper told us, get away from our campground--our dog bites! Never can tell! But the place is awesome and unforgettable--campsites are fairly well spaced and the camp hosts, a British couple who travels the US as camp hosts, were incredible! If you can, get a site in the creek side--those are often set against rock formations. The rocks slides are fun, but so full of people. There are dead trees galore, maybe from the drought or bark beetle. It does detract somewhat from the views. And do not forget to go to the waterfall, a 15 minute hike from the main water slide. The series of cascading falls, the lack of people as opposed to the hundreds near the main slides, simply unforgettable.

This was our 6th year at Dinkey Creek. Last year I left a bad review because of the condition of the cabins. But this year I am happy to say that it was so much better. We had a great time. Paul, the guy in charge, was great. He told us some places to visit and came by as we were leaving. I told him about the grills missing or not working and he said they were all being replaced. There were two things that our cabin 68 needed which was a latch on the side door to the cabin and one of the window panes was broken out in the kitchen window. Picnic tables could use some work too.

This October was our first time camping at Dinkey Creek Campground. We are late to the season, but I didn't expect our experience to be any different than if we were to camp in May.We reserved site 48. Being new to the campground, I had no idea what "park on ground level, and hike down to site" meant, but it is literally what it reads. We parked our car in the space provided at the ground level, and our entire camp site was a cliff away. There was no apparent way to get down to the campsite, and we had to use site 50's parking area to gain entrance down to our site. Luckily, site 50 was empty, so no car occupied that area. However, had there been a car there, I have no idea how we would have gotten to our campsite. The "trail" we took to our campsite was short, but quite the journey. It is steep and rocky. Between moving into the campsite, moving out of the campsite, and the multiple trips to the restroom and the car to get to our cooler, I got my steps in and my bum working. We noticed an abundance of yellow jackets upon stepping onto our site. This was around 3 p.m. I did not see a hive anywhere. As we set up camp, the yellow jackets harassed us for three days straight until we left. They were relentless and when we asked the ranger, she told us that it's just how things are. We were unable to cook or enjoy the site until the wasps went to sleep well after the sun had set. My boyfriend got stung three days ago and his finger is still throbbing. Space is secluded from other sites, but there were many hikers entering into our campsite to use an unofficial trail that leads to the Creek. Because of the space's seclusion, it also gets eerie at night. There were two restrooms nearby. One set had four restrooms, and the other had two. The set that had two restrooms were out of order. These restrooms were accompanied by a faucet, but the faucets worked only between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There was no access to water outside of those times. Restrooms were not very clean and not often maintained. There was no toilet paper at different times of the day (morning, afternoon, evening). There was one building of showers near the entrance of the campgrounds, but they were out of order. I did not see showers anywhere else. This would have been a three or four star experience had we not had the unfortunate experience with the yellow jackets. Our site seemed to have been the only site in our immediate area that had the yellow jackets issue. As I walked around the loop that our site was located in, everyone else was having a great time day-cooking and enjoying their meals, and laughing around the campfire, while we literally left every day for 8 hours to go to Shaver or hang out by the Creek when all we wanted to do was sit around, eat, and relax in the comfort of the space we paid for. But hey, we get it. It's nature and we are in nature's space. It is what it is, just not exactly the "it" we were expecting.
