This is the spot for delicious Mexican food in the 559 area. Everything we order is always fire! I almost always get the menudo that comes with all the fixings on the side. The enchiladas con arroz y frijoles are way too easy to eat. The rice is as close to abuelitas as possible. Their horchata and cafe con canela are also very authentic. The service is also great. They are usually always busy but I try to always go early to beat the crowd. However, you usually get sat quite quickly because the place is so big. They typically bring chips and salsa to your table as soon as you are seated. They have Spanish music playing and the vibes are great! Highly recommend!

This is is a solid restaurant that has been a fixture of southeast/downtown Fresno for quite a while. We came here on a weekend morning and the place was already pretty packed. We checked in and got a table pretty quickly. Then we were given a huge basket of chips and salsa. The chips were super fresh and crispy even though they were oily. The food was pretty good. We ordered the huevos rancheros, a steak plate, and a hot links plate to-go.The steak could have used a bit more flavor according to my partner. The huevos rancheros was solid. But the turkey sausage plate was a disappointment. Looks like they just used turkey hot dogs which was not great. The food is a bit pricy costing about $55 in total. But overall the food is good and I'm glad this place exists where it does.

Great food and service. I had a crispy taco, ground beef enchilada with onions, and a chili rellano with rice and beans. It was my first time here in over 50 years. Yum!

Among the most popular restaurants and arguably some of the best Mexican food in town. Always a fan favorite for brunch, Castillo's has been around since 1955, and legions of loyal patrons have been coming here for years. They are famous for their good variety of delicious and authentic Mexican dishes, reasonable prices, and prompt service. It has garnered numerous local awards and great reviews. Some of their guests have been coming back for decades. The long lines, particularly during lunch hours and the weekend, are a testament to the good food and service. While the lines get long, the general wait time is usually under 25 minutes. The three most recommended dishes are steak fajitas, chile verde, and menudo, available on the weekends. Complimentary chips and salsa come with every order.I have tried the shrimp fajitas, menudo (small bowl), chicken burrito, and the taco and enchilada plate (#2 - combination). The two best dishes were the menudo and chicken burrito. The tripe used in the menudo was very tender and tasted clean. The red chili pepper broth was rich and soothing. Diced onions, cilantro, oregano, and lime wedges are served with the soup to season it, in addition to some flour tortillas. The shredded chicken I ordered as a burrito and enchilada was delicious and perfectly cooked: tender, plump, and juicy. I liked the authenticity of the shrimp fajitas dish and the robust flavors. The shrimp was well seasoned, plump, and juicy. The crispy, sweet taste of the sizzling hot bell peppers and onions - served on a hot cast-iron skillet with either piping hot flour or corn tortillas, and beans and rice on the side - combine to make this visually and aural appealing and aromatic dish dimensions of flavors, colors, and textures despite the simplicity of the main ingredients. The hard-shelled tacos and enchiladas are a no-brainer for first-time guests or those deciding what to order. Whether you choose ground beef, shredded beef, or shredded chicken as a taco filling, it is guaranteed to be well-seasoned, juicy, and go great with a crunchy corn tortilla shell. The enchilada was spot-on: packed with meat inside, and covered with melted cheese and zesty, tomatoey, mole sauce. The soft corn enchilada shell was not soggy nor fell apart right away. The service is also as good as advertised. You are warmly greeted as soon as you walk in the door. A server comes by once you are seated to take your order or ask what you like to drink with your meal. The attentive servers will come by to ask if you are enjoying your meal and beverages are replenished. (Note: after receiving your bill, you pay at the check-out counter.)Castillo's is an iconic restaurant with a good selection of delicious dishes with traditional flavors and colors. The friendly, attentive service and reasonable prices make them a family favorite.

I asked people for Mexican food recommendations and heard of this place from two different people, so I decided to give it a shot. When I walked into the restaurant there were quite a few people and everyone seemed to be having a nice time. The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant smelled nice from the food. As far as the food, I think it depends on what you order. The asada burrito was average and unimpressive. Didn't care for lettuce in the burrito and would have preferred the guacamole and sour cream on the inside. The chile verde quesadilla was very delicious. Apparently it's one of their popular items. On a separate note, I find it strange they close at 5PM. I feel like they are missing out on a lot of business closing so early. Thankfully though they do not force everyone out at 5 and let people enjoy their meal.

Food is bomb. Came here with my girlfriends because we've been wanting Mexican food since working in Yosemite. Being from Southern California we were missing home and this brought us back. I got a chimichanga and it was so good. Needed a little salt but it was piping hot and went well with my margarita. Our server was very kind and prompt with service. The ambiance is cute, typical Mexican restaurant decor. Maybe not as authentic as the spots in LA but it's close enough being so far from home. Will be coming back for those margaritas.

Me and my wife went to Castillo's to give it another chance. I really wanted to have a better experience and that didn't happen. We were seated at a really small table which was okay since it was only two of us but right after we ordered my son called and wanted to join us. We asked the host if we could move because my son was going to join us. The host was cool about it and gave us a bigger table. Me and my wife grabbed our drinks and the guy grabbed our plates. He was very accommodating. After the move to the new table everything went south. The waitresses straight up ignored us. No one came to check on us. I found the host and asked if I could order food for my son. He sent a waitress and she took our order. After that no one asked if we needed anything. My son showed up and I had to ask the host if we could have the food we ordered. The food was in a to-go box sitting on the counter. The waitress that brought the food looked mad. Three different waitresses walked by us as they were attending to customers seated around us and didn't ask us if we needed anything. After my son finished his food we knew no one was going to bring us the bill so we walked up to the front counter to pay. There was no way they were getting a tip. The experience was very disappointing and I will not go back. I would love to review the food but to be honest the service was so bad it is all I can think about.

The food was delicious always! My favorite was the shrimp fajitas. The services were great each time we visit them. Clean place as well. Location is good, close to downtown. Actually it is our favorite restaurant for breakfast.

Tried castillo's for the first time on a monday for lunch and it was super packed. The restaurant is pretty big, so our table of six was still able to be seated as soon as we walked in. The shrimp was cooked and seasoned super well. Not pictured but their asada tacos were also really good.
