The Caruthers Fair is the largest free-gate fair in California!! NO Admission Fees!! I grew up going to this fair and it still has a small town feel and a safe environment fair located in the small community of Caruthers, CA, just south of Fresno, CA. It is mainly funded by Fair Queen Contestants selling raffle tickets for a new car! This year it is a Ford Mustang! The stand out to this Fair is all the food booths that are operated by churches, schools, and other non-profit organizations! All the food is diversified and home-made delicious!! Come support these organizations and have some diversity of home-made pies, aebleskiver, tri-tip dinners, pizza, fresh corn on the cob, turkey leg, teriyaki chicken, hamburgers, nachos, carne asada!! There is a small Midway that covers enough rides and Ferris wheel! There are local vendors selling their hand crafted merchandise and jewelry. All friendly people! They have exhibit buildings for art and horticulture. Since it's a Country fair there are tractors and farm equipment! It's a 4 day fair at the end of September Wednesday thru Saturday and a Parade on Saturday!! People are Friendly, Food is Good! Live Music!

Amazing little fair located in the sprawling community of Caruthers in Fresno County. What makes this fair so awesome is that's it's free to get in. Yes, free! It's home town feel. Most of not all of the food vendors are local organizations making delicious food and pies. They do tend to run out of stuff especially the later it gets, but you just hop on over to another vendor and eat something else. Most of the food vendors now take cards so it's a nice plus. The seating area is way too close to the vendors which makes standing in line and waiting for your food a bit of a hassle since people are standing, stopping and transiting along, so be prepared and just ignore the rude ones. The fair itself can be walked through in probably an hour if your just looking at stuff and admiring the art and animals. There's the iconic cinnamon rolls and the usual fair rides. Parking can be tricky as you either have to park in a surrounding neighborhood, pay someone $5 and up to park in their driveway or head over to the nearby elementary school, pay $5 and walk over. That's been a sure bet the last few years I've been to this fair. Overall amazing food, and a warm hometown feel in a free fair. PSA: they're only open Wednesday-Saturday. Made the mistake of going on a Sunday morning one year and it bit me in the butt.

There really isn't anything else like it ....... A fair in a very small community that's quite literally in the center of the middle of the middle of no where! But what an experience first off it feels good to go somewhere and not feel poached for ever penny you have Bc it's free to get in.The food is fun Bc there aren't toothless venders selling stale corn dogs and nachos in glowing huts but there are toothless locals selling unpronounceable named foods in a food court barn!!! Lol I'm kidding they weren't all local. It's fun a lot of fun you can eat watch ppl and listen to beautiful live music though it was very busy and hectic time seems to slow down for at least for a little while. I will say this is relation to the food prices the ride prices are high but that a fair for you

Our annual visit was absolutely perfect. Got there around mid day, small crowds, perfect weather and the pulled pork was amazing! Parking was easy, no waiting in lines, friendly and polite people. This is why I never miss this fair!

Friday night was congested, which I expected. The line for the ferris wheel was very long. The seating in the food area was packed. But, this is what you get when you attend a free-gate fair. We still had a great time. While my dinner was average, the cinnamon rolls were mind-blowing. The place is also fun and upbeat. This is a nice little tradition. Give it a try next year.

The free-admission Caruthers Fair is a good small-town fair with GREAT food and okay entertainment and merchandise. (I have no children, so I have no interest in the carnival section, although it looked fine to me.)The one thing they could do better on is to explain the parking options on their website. There is $10 parking (cash only) at the high school next door and limited free parking on the street, but the website says absolutely NOTHING about parking at all. (For some reason, event websites often neglect to mention transportation/parking. I do not know why this is, since it seems like an obvious thing that people coming to any event would want to know about before getting there.)
