California Shine Construction

After reading a few of the other reviews on Calif Shine Construction on this site and the owners responses, I would like to state that I am an actual customer and would be glad to provide a recommendation personally. I purchased a beautiful older home which after receiving a recommendation from a trusted friend, and interviewing several other contractors, I hired California Shine Construction to completely remodel the kitchen and bathroom, paint the exterior and interior of the home, refinish existing and install new wood flooring, install recessed lighting, and replace the old wooden roof on the house and detached garage as well as install a flagstone patio. I have nothing but good things to say about the entire experience of working with California Shine. The price for the project was competitive ( I obtained two other estimates) and the craftsmanship and installation of granite countertops, kitchen cabinets, wooden trim, tile work, appliances and hardware was excellent. Luis Bravo kept me informed on the progress of the work and responded to me promptly when I reached out to him with questions. The job was completed on time, the site was kept clean and the work crew were friendly and seemed to enjoy working with their coworkers and as well as the work they were doing. Over the years I have worked with different contractors on various home remodels and my experience on this project with California shine has been the best. I highly recommend Luis and his team. I personally worked with Luis Bravo, the owner of this company. We had a contract with him for a new home construction. He worked on our project for over a year, even though the expected time was supposed to be less than 8 months according to our initial negotiations. Working with Luis was one of the worst experiences of my life. He would demand from us all the money he could up front and did not put in the work. He wouldn't even try to give us unconditional releases of liens for his workers. He would also break a bunch of our contract's terms and eventually he overran our contractual budget, abandoned our project without satisfying all the terms of our contract, and the horrible list goes on. I wish I did my research into his contractor's license before getting involved. When I looked up his contractor's license with the California Contractors License Board, I discovered that Luis has a history of violating the rules, like he did with our project. I now know that his license was suspended multiple times as a result. I also learned that Luis had several court judgments against him. Before you contract with Luis, definitely do your homework and review his problematic history like I wish I had done.I believe the California Contractors State License Board's evidence supports the truthfulness of my review. I truly hope that this company changes its ways and follows the law so that it doesn't get more illegal violations (for the company's benefit and for the benefit of his clients).

Where do i begin. Addition Project (for the most part) eventually came out well (thanks to the workers). However, bad experience with the proprietor of this business (and by proprietor I mean Luis Bravo). There were many broken promises. Incomplete jobs. Waiting extended periods to have things done. Constant request for payments throughout the project (when contract stated 50% before - 50% when completed). I made the mistake of referring (based on the quality of work of the workers) and again was let down. Avoid like the plague. Everyday I get into my vehicle i'm reminded of this company. . . with a big 10' hole in the middle of my driveway that has yet to be filled. Thanks California ShineUpdate: Don't do it! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!! Would give negative stars if possible. Looking for a real & trustworthy contractor and although there are ravishing reviews, don't believe them. Called the number provided on Yelp and got static. Someone returned my call but was not professional. When asked if he had experience on a certain type of home, he said, "Yes, yes, yes," in an annoyed voice! When asked further questions he just got upset. I told him I would call back if needed and HE HUNG UP on me! He had a Spanish accent so it was probably the "incredible Luis" who did not provide his name upon calling me. Definitely not a shiny person like the name of company!!BEWARE - LOOK ELSEWHERE!

Ive used this company to remodel my kitchen because the old model was just not working for me and everyday practicality. Luis knew exactly how to change the kitchen around and worked with me to make my dream kitchen! I am beyond please with this work! From the cabinets to the tile, everything is how I envisioned it. He also worked with my budget and gave me tips in order not to pass my budget. I would use them again!

Luis Bravo is a VERY dishonest person. After gaining our trust with a phony friendship, he kept our $15,000 "down payment and advance" for a remodeling project he never started. He said that part of our money had been invested in "plans" that his drafter never authorized for us to use.We made four different appointments with Luis to meet us in our Clovis home to discuss this matter and to request a refund for a project that was NEVER BEGUN. Four times we left work early to meet with Luis and four times he simply did not show up. We left messages and texts but he never responded to any.When we mailed him a certified letter to ask for our deposit back, he REFUSED TO ACCEPT the letter. Whatever you do, DO NOT HIRE this dishonest, unethical man.

I had several bids for a 26x12 outdoor deck off of my house. Not only did Luis come in at the best price but he contacted me immediately about the project through my posting on Thumbtack. He was very professional and very honest about his bid. It has been 8 days since he began the project and I couldn't be more pleased. He and his workers have been very user friendly about changes and sharing ideas. Luis has a motto, " I will build it for you as if it was my own!" He has been true to his word even to his own detriment for cost increases when we have changed the project mid-stream. The deck project has grown to a 32x12 deck with a 12x16 roof to cover a spa and an 8x12 section of roof to cover the rest of the deck at the sliding door entrance onto the deck. Luis takes a personal interest in every aspect of the project making suggestions to improve the look and usefulness of the deck. He has been delightful to work with and he has a great stable of workers who are very capable.I have read some of the reviews that others have posted that that have not been favorable but I did my homework and contacted the BBB and other referrals that he gave me and my conclusion is that every poor review was not about Luis but about clients who were dishonest with Luis and tried to take advantage of his kind nature.Finally, I am a real customer not a paid referral, and here is my phone number to prove it...209-277-5749...call me if you want more info about the excellent work Luis and his company can do for you.

If 0 stars were an option I would choose that. Luis was terrible at communicating and constantly tried to overrule what I wanted. He refused to have his crew fix things after they didn't do them right in the first place. He refused to finish the contract even though we overpaid and actually demanded more money even though there were things in the contract he didn't finish. He was very unprofessional and actually hung up on us when we called and tried to get him to fulfill and finish his contractual obligations

Poor Work. Talked a big game but did not come through what was promised most of the paint job and cabinet work were off and unfinished I really had to complain so they come back and repaint them and seal the paint with a clear coat like they're supposed to do. They also promised to give me a big vent that I needed for the stove but bought me a cheap $100 stove vent when I was quoted $400 on the contract his excuse was he added more cabinets for me so it kind of came out to the same price. Overall poor work and I still have missing cabinet shelves in my kitchen which was never finished and some poor electrical work that right now goes in and out. Also when they did the vebt work for my stove they left a big a hole in my ceiling which is still not patched up. When people ask me who did my kitchen, I tell them go somewhere else.
