"This is a great space with nice people/artists. The level of ceramic work is extraordinary. It is located in a dynamic area of the Art District downtown. They have the best Art Hop crowd. The shows are always very interesting. They have wonderful gift items if you are in the shopping mood. They also offer classes as well as different levels of membership."
"I went to art hop here last night since I still had some time after going to a Yelp event and grocery shopping. I had so much fun and I bumped into one of the artists who I have known forever since her painting was on display. I was happy to see that there was new art work on display. I think I need to research about more places that are open for art hop but I really enjoyed this studio. I think there is all different types of art for different people. I really enjoy going to Rina Gonzales Create Studio which has a bunch of different cards in both English and Spanish."
"My late father posthumously received the highest honor in martial arts. I was willing to spend money to custom frame his certificate. I was looking for a studio or frame shop that would meet my needs and expectations. I was so impressed with the finished product, I had them frame one of my certificates as well.Golden Coast Gallery has been in business for 33 years. The workmanship of the custom framing is professionally done. The quality of the matting and number of choices when it comes to frames is second-to-none. Moreover, the prices are reasonable considering the quality of the work and materials.Excellent customer care as well. Thank you Matt, Mary and Ken for the extraordinary service, care and attention to detail you put into your work. Highly recommended for framing all your photos, paintings and diplomas."
"I've been taking classes and and practicing in the studio at Clay Mix for 6 months now. It is, in short, a wonderful place. Wheel throwing class: Craig Easter, the instructor, is a magician at the wheel. What makes him unique is that he can put the magic into words. In short, he can really teach, and he is very generous with his time. I walked in with the goal of being able to center. 8 weeks later, I was throwing large bowls. Studio: People work with mud and clay in there and the doormat between the gallery/store and studio asks, "got dirt?", but somehow the place is immaculate. Gallery: The artists that exhibit (and sell) there are top-notch, which makes the gallery both inspiring and instructive. When we learned about bowls, Craig took us into the gallery and had us pick up and feel different bowls as he described the structure of a good bowl. When he was teaching me how to pull and attach a handle to a mug, we went to the gallery and examined the handles on all of the mugs. The gallery and studio are a perfect pair. Store: It's very nice to be able to walk over to the shelves, find whatever I need, and buy it right there. Prices are reasonable (same as anywhere else) and the stock , including books and any number of clay bodies, is comprehensive. People: Very friendly, and very knowledgeable. There is a lot to like about Clay Mix, but the people are the best part. Prices: Look on the website, www.clay-mix.com for class prices. Compared to New York City prices, tuition here is next-to-nothing. If you were really to break it down, the knowledge and skill per dollar ratio is very high."
"Such a cute shop with local art and antiques. They had lots of cute unique items. The owner is so sweet and really cares about the local artists work. Would definitely recommend stopping by and checking it out."
"Local artist from Madera, MIchael Garcia, whose art pieces in the early 2,000's were influenced by his stay in Japan, is now showing his latest body of work at 1821 Gallery & Studios from January 4, 2018 though February 10, 2018. I have two of his earlier art work painted on recycled wooden grape drying trays to make raisins which is not only a cool way to recycle, but also using local materials that make direct connection to the environment surrounding the artist where he lives, thinks, breathes.Famous Japanese author, Mishima Yukio, is depicted in a series of portrait head images where each following image slowly progressively fades away. The second is a golden wash looking a lot like a Rothko color field. It's very Zen-like in creating a contemplative, nonexistential mood. Wishing Michael Garcia great success for this current showing. I tried to go Sunday afternoon only to find out it isn't open then. Look for opening time on my photos below."
"Beautiful paintings in this cool art gallery in River Park. They have senior painting classes. Lots of art for sale. The customer service was great. The paintings all have different pricing but many different artists have paintings for sale."
"My partner and I stumbled into this shop looking for a place to beat the heat, and we were so surprised to find this gem in Tower. It's a little off the beaten road, but it's well worth the stop. We spent quite some time talking to the owner, Tony: super friendly and gregarious. He definitely has an eye for interior design. The shop is well curated, and I can tell he spends a lot of time choosing the right items to highlight in his shop. I still can't stop thinking about a few vintage drinking glasses that I saw. The prices are very reasonable, too! Come check out Tony's shop, your home will be very happy that you did."
"Last year, I had some frames custom made for flat-screen televisions that I've used in my business. Tarry did a fantastic job, very accurately sized (he measured!) and a great choice of woods from a large selection of frame moulding.I've only received compliments on these frames."
"A Sense of Place is one of the finest fine art galleries in Fresno. You'll see a wide variety of art and jewelry from some of Fresno's finest artists. It's definitely worth a visit after which you're sure to become a repeat visitor. It's open Tuesday through Saturday and Art Hop night the first Thursday of the month. Also periodically there is a special artists reception. There is one coming up soon on May 12. See you there?"

What a lovely redo of an old, unused building in downtown Fresno. This corner building has so much potential as an art gallery. It is a wonderful place to view large pieces of art and is handy for artists to rent space both to work and to exhibit. Because I love to walk around downtown, I have no problem with parking blocks away and walking, but there is street parking close by. As of now, the building is only open to the public on Art Hop Thursdays and Saturdays.

The staff is amazing, knowledgeable & extremely helpful. This is a full service pottery store. This studio is very conscientious about covid safety. Even though many places have re-opened their retail portion, they choose to remain closed & do curbside pickup. The entire transaction took place over the phone. If you have any questions they are quick to help. I was asking about glaze & the worker went back inside & brought out the sample board of glazes. They have not resumed classes yet either.

What a beautiful gem downtown. I had the opportunity to check this lovely art gallery out during ArtHop and I'm exceptionally glad I did. 1821 is gorgeous, an ideal location for an event in their front entrance area. They have numerous rooms that are rented out as studios to individual artists, and a few rooms that simply showcase the owners' collection and favorites. The main room has one featured gallery for a season. Each room was filled with interesting, beautiful, quirky art that I wouldn't hesitate to buy and hang in my house (in the future... when I have a house...).Even though this gallery is slightly tucked away on a side street and easy to miss, it would be worth your while to come check them out on your own time, or at least during ArtHop (you might get a chance to get a delicious frozen treat from Donna at Ooh De Lolli too!). I would be happy to have an event with them in the future, and I wish them all the best in keeping this beautiful location alive and well Downtown.

"Ma Ly is a very approachable soft-spoken teacher with tons of patience for students. He is a very talented and professional artist who specializes in lifelike portrait painting. He is the perfect instructor for those with shy kids as he takes his time talking to them to make them feel comfortable. Fortunately, we are in Fresno so his prices are very affordable."
"Only art gallery dedicated to photography in the valley. Not to mention the first.features photographers from the valley. Some have been published internationally and have worked with famous photographer like Annie Leibotz.Definitely a gem that is overlooked. A must visit if you live in Fresno and are interested in photography. Friendly people."
"Everything went well. My daughter has an Art class and she needed some supplies. The teacher recommended to go to Allard's to buy them. She had a list but when we got there we were lost. We didn't know where to start. So, we asked for help. The young worker was so nice and very helpful. We gave her the list and in no time we had everything we needed. We would've been there just looking and looking for the things all lost. But thankfully we were in and out. The prices are reasonable, they were some items on special and we had some savings. The cashier also was very nice. She offered the rewords program and we signed up. So we can get savings. They have a big variety of art supplies. Anything you need from sketching and paint definitely you can find them there. Very great experience."
"We had a great time getting piercings at Red Wave. I wish we got his name, but the piercer was friendly and took his time making sure we liked the placement beforehand. Also, pricing here was significantly better than other shops around town. He gave us a discount for two people getting a set of lobe piercings $65 for each person not including jewelry. Thanks red wave!"
"If in life you can enjoy simple pleasures, are you not better off? Yes! And so, how rewarding was it to visit the Studio and meet with the most interesting Diane Johnso-Mendes, owner of the gallery? Very! What a refreshing and wonderful time I had learning about Diane, art teacher background, and many of the various artists who have displayed work at the gallery. For me, the highlight of anything happening in the Tower Area. And are you getting a look at the breath and diversity of work flowing through on display???It's what, if nothing else you should be doing when in the area. So impressed was I that I picked up 2 works from one of the artists in the area. Area to be filled in here:The works I chose are unique and resonated with my unique personality and Moon Base Alpha aesthetic. Something not produced anywhere else on the planet that I get to enjoy for years to come. While both stimulating and sedating, the art here, the crafts, different materials used, got my juices flowing and felt like a luxury spa for the mind. I left refreshed, delighted and feeling lucky. Mix it up guys, get in here for your spa treatment that works on the inside and the outside. You'll walk away feeling like you spend your time well off the beaten path...Thanks you local artists chasing your passions and making incredible things of beauty and worth that make our/my life better. And as always, thank you Lord for the resources to take a couple of these works home with me!-G"
"Perfect place to pick up a gift for anyone. Lots of local artists paintings and other gift items. can't wait to go back to see what's new."
"I have to confess something: when I hear the word art in my younger years (way before college), it is usually followed by a long and wide yawn, because lets face it, art is normally boring to people who aren't artist themselves or art enthusiast. However, Art Hop is different, its not just about art appreciation, its about exploring the beautiful buildings of downtown Fresno, meeting new people (some good-looking), eating foods (food trucks), listening to live music and taking a nice stroll (great exercise), its also an amazing time spent with friends and your love ones, the prefect hangout or date plan, I know I have personally made memories here that I can still picture to this day. How art hop works is that you are free to visit all the opened galleries in downtown Fresno, it literally means you get to hop from one art gallery to the other. There is a map available to be downloaded on the fresno art council website, which shows the location of every gallery that you could hop into, I highly recommend you getting one printed, I know it had helped me. There is plenty of free street parking all over downtown too. Art Hop is a FREE event, which occurs every 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, starting as early as 5pm and lasting to 8pm. It's a perfect blend of older pretentious crowds analyzing abstract art, younger instagramming hipsters, and friendly, weird, and crazy bums, yet I can safely say this event is safe and there hasn't been an issue in the past. There was a good amount of galleries that was open that each have their own flavor to offer, my favorite was the 1821 gallery because the building was simply stunning and well restored, plus the artist had such huge rooms to feature their art. I usually make it through 5-8 galleries a night. I start at the 1821 gallery than move on to art house, idea works, then to broadway studios, then k-jewl and a few others. You get the idea, its an extensive amount of hoping. There is a substantial amount of places to grab a bite on the go, mostly food trucks like taco trucks. But also small little restaurants like Take 3 burger, peeves and raizana opens late on art hop nights. Its the prefect place for you to bring people from out of town to appreciate the beauty of Fresno and its downtown while having fun and getting a good walk."
"Beautiful and high quality art ranging from $30 into the hundreds. All the art galleries on this little center are co- managed - wonderful example of celebrating local professionals"
"I came here today and loved it! It was free to visit and even on a Friday afternoon, there was plenty of parking. In fact, there were only a few people inside. There's mostly just one big room and one small side room. You could easily comb the entire place in 30 minutes. Off to another side, there is a gift shop with lots of handmade crafts (like wooden carvings, jewelry, and pottery) from local artists and art prints for sale. There is a new exhibition every month with opening night the first Friday of each month. They also offer lots of cool art classes for adults and children.I am already planning my next visit :)"
"This is a wonderful art gallery/studio of talented local artists. The owner, Chris Hays, presents the art in a tasteful manner. The service is great and the selection is expansive for such a small space. Many of the pieces I find are quite affordable. A great place to find that unique Christmas gift."
"Very grateful we have a place like this! This is a perfect place to make unique gift! So many great things they offer!"
"Probably like many, I've driven through Sanger on my to somewhere else. I've also driven through Sanger when on the Blossom Trail, but I've never stopped in downtown and had a look around. Until last week when Basilwood Farms brought their goatsmilk soap to Mixed Messages Art in downtown Sanger. That was enough of a carrot to prompt a trip to Sanger.Mixed Messages Art is just off Academy Avenue, the main thoroughfare through Sanger. The road connects Fresno with Sanger if you want a lovely drive in the country. You may have to park around the corner, though, as street parking is limited right in front of the tiny art studio. The studio was once someone's home, a very tiny home, but a home none the less. Kathleen Mattox has turned the tiny home into a riot of colorful artwork, with each room more vibrant than the previous. Even the bathroom is filled to the ceiling with wonderful, one of a kind, pieces. You have to look and look again to see everything. Most of the pieces that are displayed are Kathleen's own work, and they are beautiful with so much color. She also carries other's artwork in the studio. There is a wide variety of jewelry, also. Take a trip to Sanger. Park and walk around. Stop in Mixed Messages Art. You will be delighted."
"Eryn is a phenomenal artist, instructor, and person. Her paint parties are truly one-of-a-kind. She has a way to make you feel like anything is possible. "Every one is an artist," she'll tell you, and by the end of a session, you'll feel inspired and compelled to continue this new-found hobby that you never knew you loved until you tried it. Being in the comfort of your own home with your favorite bottle of vino (or two-buck chuck) is just an added bonus!"
"Amazing! This place is incredible! It's full of other amazing studios! The art here is amazing! Arthop here is so much fun! This is where I first met my husband so be prepared to meet the love of your life haha!"
"Best Buddhist Temple in Fresno, people of all race is welcome to come create merits here"
"Sorensen Art Studio sits at the very fringe of Fresno, at the very end of Van Ness, up against the railroad tracks. Once a large warehouse operation, the building has been cut up into various spaces for artists of all kinds. And just as the building sits on the fringe, some of the art is on the fringe, too.You can find traditional watercolors and mosaics. You can view fabric artists at work. You can see photography of all stripes. And meet the photographers and hear their stories of various photos. For a long while, Sorensens has been opened to the public only on Art Hop First Thursdays, and that's not too bad during the late spring, summer, early fall months, when it's still pretty light out there next to the railroad tracks, on roads that have no stoplights, among many other large, perhaps abandoned buildings. There is just a frisson of danger. But that has changed.Chris Sorensen has turned the building and grounds over to a new manager who is going to have the place open every week, Thursday through Saturday, daylight hours--10 to 3. Meet the artists, experience their workspace, see their art, and best of all, buy a piece of local artwork. Fresno has a great community of artists. Let's support them."
