Looking west from Highway 120 towards Aspen Campground
These aspens are 1.5 miles from Aspen campground when you turn off Tioga Pass
Aspen CG is approximately 15 minutes from the entrance to Yosemite NP.
I loved this site because you have the creek behind our site.

Most campsites do not require a canopy because of all the trees surrounding the area that give you shade.
Right off Tioga Pass
This pit toilet was close to our campsite, however the temporary out houses are cleaner.
Creek/river running pretty fast. A lot of water because of the second highest snowfall the area had in recent history. Winter 2016-2017.
Aspen Campground (Lee Vining, CA) -
Lots of close by fishing spots, only 10 minute drive.
Lots of wildlife. We saw a few deer in the morning. Beware of chipmunks and birds, they'll take food right off your campsite.
Aspen Campground is a first come, first served campground. It is very primitive, only has pit toilets or out houses.
The only source of water is the water spigot that is located across from the information board as you enter the campground.
Site 33 has the Creek running behind the site. Perfect spot for a hammock.
There is $30 fee to enter YNP. But before entering the park, there a few lakes to go fishing.

I'm very hesitant to review this campground, because we wanted to keep this special Eastern Sierra Nevada hideaway all to ourselves. We arrived on a Friday afternoon without a reservation, and began to mildly panic one we learned most of the sites had already been taken. Luckily we came across some super friendly Aspen Campground regulars, who invited us to share their double site which just happened to be situated in a prime spot right next to the beautifully bustling river - SCORE! The Big draw to Aspen is hands down the fishing. It just so happened that right before we arrived the local hatchery dropped a load of fresh trouts, ready to be hooked! This was my first time fishing, and I was able to catch (and Cook) my very first fish! If you like to fish and you like to camp, going to Aspen is a no brainer. The trees are also large and plentiful, so if you come, don't forget to pack your hammock!

Aspen campground is beautiful! The creek running across the back adds so much to the ambiance and you can also fish up and down the creek which is awesome. We rented a trailer through Tioga Trailer Rentals and they delivered it directly to the campground. There are no hookups, but I would still recommend a trailer during the colder times. I do wish there was more than one toiler - there is one pit toilet for everyone in the campground and it's my understanding the showers are now out of service.I will keep returning to this campground forever because of the location and the creek.

Beautiful primitive campground nestled in a valley off the 120 hwy. Has good shade, and the creek that runs through it can provide some good fishing, depending on the DFG planting schedule. I'd opt for the sites that are next to the creek, as some of the sites off-creek are small and don't offer much in terms of "ambience". This is "primitive" camping, so no developed outhouses, etc.

Go here. Find a spot near the creek and you will be in camp heaven. Water is available at the entrance. Port a potty's are the cleanest I've ever seen!! Deer were walking around. They must be used to people. Nice fire pits on each campsite with 2 layers of grates. That came in handy for charcoal. Such a beautiful, peaceful place.

I give it a 4 star rating because how beautiful of an area it sits in. I would rate 3.5 stars if I could because of the pit toliets, no running water, other than the one and only water spigot that is located in the entrance. It's very primitive camping. You need to have all the right equipment to camp here. There are a few spots that will accommodate an RV or trailer. If you are tent camping, make sure you have those refillable water jugs for washing dishes, etc. I brought some baby wipes to clean up a bit at the end of the day. Don't forget bug repellent, there are a lot of mosquitos! If you want to take a shower, you can take a 10 minute drive to Lee Vining, there's an RV park that has a public shower. They'll charge you $3.50 for a five minute shower. You've got to purchase a token at the RV office. As far as Aspen Campground, it's nice enough, but I prefer camping inside Yosemite NP. If you want to score a campsite here, you have to arrive early, we arrived by 9am, and there were only 5 sites left. It is a very busy time in the summer, so come early!

Have only camped here once. I know the other posters like the creekside camp spots but our favorite was the other side of the loop, farthest from the creek. Everybody huddles more toward the creek. We prefer privacy over the creek views. Also we prefered the sunny, high desert looking spots verses being in the thick, dark trees. (Being about 70 degrees out we appreciated the warm sun!). The only potable water here was a hand pump-type at the campground entrance. There are a lot of pretty short hikes right around the campground, so no need to get in the car to drive somewhere everyday. We liked that a lot! (Deducted one star rating for the stinky vault toilets.) We were in a pop-up truck camper.

The campground is one of the best ever. Been here several times and it's never more than half full. A spot by the creek is a must! Be sure to bring rain gear, due to the occasional afternoon shower even in summer. Rain was quick and refreshing. Mammoth is just 30 minutes down the road.

Aspen Campground was by far the nicest places we have ever camped. The mixture of aspen trees and huge pines were breath taking. All the sites were manicured very good and the fishing was fantastic. This is true high country. Bears wondered into camp everyday. I guess all the camp food was to much to resist but the host was great and scared them off. My wife and I were so sad to leave. Back to reality but we will be back. Definitely gods wonderful creation

Great place to dry camp. Always nice to be next to the stream. Back door to Yosemite. Many other sites are close by. Not busy, very peaceful and quiet, lots of trees and many sites. No hookups. Have come to this spot for over 40 years and will continue.
