"There is something to be said about the authenticity of the food catered by any restaurant, and it's authenticity you can taste. It's the place where locals go to get a "taste of home", it's the place where locals go because it's what they truly call, "food". It's what I imagine Taqueria Don Pepe represents to so many living in Fresno. While the take on tacos and burritos are slightly different from other authentic Mexican joints I've experienced from Los Angeles, Orange County, and the Bay Area, the flavors are unquestionably authentic. The charcoal flames meats, the bite your tongue off spicy sauces, and the chewy flavorful tortilla, it all comes together the way it was intended. Delicious and hits the spot. While the meats selection are expansive, Don Pepe covers the essentials, and they're all good. The restaurant is a mall, I mean small, little spot with limited inside seating and outside seating. Its atmosphere just screams, order and go eat!"

"I was out and about and stumbled on this place with friends that are locals. We walked in and the host seated us. We sat down and had chips and salsa to start. Of all my chips and salsa experience I'd put this salsa on the top three of my list in life! This salsa was so fresh and tasty. Not too fine and not too chunky. Just right! We had the queso fondue and my mind was blown away. Not from the queso. The cut tortillas around the bowl brought me back to my childhood. I want to say the world Sonoran style tortillas but I don't know if that's correct. These tortillas are epic and accurate! The flavor and flour to oil ratio with the little cooked notes brought the queso to life. I wanted a dozen tortillas to go! I had a burrito and it was good. Not dry or flavorless. It was a safe burrito to eat but I wasn't that impressed. Beans and rice are simple and typical of a Mexican restaurant. The service was ok. The bussers were more interactive than the server. Shout out to this guys running around taking care of the tables and refilling drinks! It wasn't too loud in there. There seems to be enough room for more tables in there unless the fire code restricts it. The bathroom was clean and presentable and that made a nice impression.Overall, I'd come back here if I'm in the area of downtown Clovis. I'd get the burrito again and the queso fondue. The chips and salsa...ALWAYS! Try the tortillas though. I'd like to know your opinion."

"I can't believe that I haven't reviewed Agave Azul yet!We love Mexican food. It's one of those cuisines where just about anyone can find something they enjoy. We had heard a lot of wonderful things about Agave Azul from friends and coworkers. What do you do when you hear about a great restaurant? You try it out naturally! The restaurant is located in a strip mall, but don't let that deter you! There is always a friendly host to greet you and take you to your table. When the weather is nice, there is plenty of outdoor seating too. The inside ofThe restaurant is not too big, but there is a nice bar area that is separate from the main dining room.The chips and salsa are so good! You are given not one but 3 salsas to try. There is one that is a little on the spicier side so be careful if you are not a fan of heat. They also have the most amazing Brussels sprouts which are seriously some of the best I've ever had. I love the fajitas and my husband loves the carnitas! Both are fabulous. Agave Azul is one of those restaurants that once you've tried it, you can't believe it took you so long to try it and you don't want to go anywhere else anymore. At least that is how we feel about it. Thankfully it's not that far from home so we can eat some yummy Mexican food whenever we get a craving!"

"Our friend mentioned it was her godparents' favorite place in the area so we had to try.They are quick to seat groups that come in and we were seated immediately. They were generous with the complimentary chips and salsa and we were downing them quickly.I ordered an enchi-burrito and it is easily one of the best plates of mexican food I had ever had. Having eaten mexican food in socal and all over the world at the best places and this was such a pleasant surprise. Food is fresh, they pack the meat on the plates and consistently check in on us as well as refill out waters. Do not skip this place when you're in the area!"

"Nice atmosphere, excellent service and fabulous food! I visited on a Tuesday evening and there was plenty of seating. I ordered the carnitas and loved my dish. The only thing I would have passed on were the chips. Fresno has a lot of good Mexican and I would put this place at the top of my list. I will definitely be back!"

"Tortas or Mexican sandwiches served on a bun are this restaurant's claim to fame. Of course, the tacos, in addition to their options for burritos (original, wet burrito, breakfast burrito, and bacon-wrapped burrito) are popular menu choices and loyal patrons will say are must-orders. The horchata and aqua frescas are also very good here.Other items on the menu include taquitos, enchiladas, gorditas, sopes, quesadillas, Menudo (weekends only), nachos, tostadas, and even a bacon-wrapped hot dog (ala Mexican street-style).Solid, authentic Mexican food. I liked but did not love anything I ordered. Open late (until 10 pm) Monday to Thursday, and until 11 pm from Friday to Sunday. It is a tiny taqueria with limited seating. More seats are available during the day with an open-ceiling dining section adjacent to the restaurant, which only has three tables and six chairs inside. Not recommended during winter months, however, because there is no outdoor lighting or heating. It may also be worth noting that the taqueria is located off of McKinley Avenue, near North First Street - a very sketchy section of town."

"Was recommended to try this spot recently and I was excited to try it! I love Mexican food. We came with a big group but the servers managed that well, tending to our table and keeping chips/salsa filled, as well as our drinks. They have a great drink menu. I opted for a spicy jalapeño margarita, which was really good! For my entree I chose the fajita tostada with grilled chicken. It was a huge portion and tasted good! Others in my party were not thrilled on their food. I heard the enchiladas were lacking flavor. My sister was appreciative of them having ranch for the children in our party who were ordering chicken and French fries. I have definitely had better Mexican, but this spot was a fun time for us. They have a large menu with the standard Mexican fare. Parking was super easy with a big parking lot right out front. We went on a Saturday and didn't have a reservation but were able to get a table in about 15 mins. They had heaters on inside, which I could've done without. It was really warm in the restaurant."

"This place was absolutely delicious- i ordered the caldo de pollo and it was very hearty. It came with huge chunks of vegetable, the meat fell off the bone. But my favorite dish was the garlic butter shrimp with diablo sauce. It was the perfect amount of spice. Service was okay- the server was attentive but a little bit slow to grab our orders. "We were in the private dining room with 48 dinner guests and a speaker with audio visual needs. Food was buffet style and was terrific! Fruit platter desert tray was well received. We had a no host bar. Bartender was working two bars, the one in the front of the house and our bar in the back near our dining room and he did a wonderful job despite having to split his time. Customer service was amazing!"

"Been wanting to stop here, finally had a chance for lunch. When you walk in you order and then take a seat. They give you a number and the food is brought out to you. Soda machine and salsa bar to the far left. Different salsa, avocado one was awesome not spicy at all. I order a Taco Combination Meal, came with 2 tacos (soft or fried) I chose fried. Homemade fried and good crunch and did not split underneath. Came with meat (I ordered carne asada) lettuce, cheese, green salsa (mild) and sour cream. A lot of meat and tasted really good. Also came with Spanish rice and refried beans, both good.I also order a chicken tortilla soup (mainly because I was cold, definitely too much food. The soup was hot and hit the spot. Big chunks of chicken, carrots, potatoes on the side they give you fried tortilla strips, half of an avocado diced, cheese and hotter salsa to add if you wanted. I chose not to add. Still very flavorful.Will definitely be back."

"We were looking for a good lunch spot to break up the drive back to the Bay from Yosemite and were drawn to El Rodeo by the promise of delicious posole. I'm so surprised there are not more ratings for this place, this place is such a hidden gem!Ratings Breakdown:2/2 Stars for Taste-- We were a party of 5 and got a little bit of everything to share. The posole was as delicious as advertised -- the generous pork chunks had the perfect ratio of fat to meat and just melted in the mouth. The pork was similarly fork tender in the chile verde and the sauce had a surprising amount of tartness to break up the heaviness of the meat flavor. My husband ordered the chimichanga with tripas and, man, we would definitely come back for more tripas. We also ordered the carne asada nachos to appease my mother and they were super generous with the toppings -- we had to use the complimentary chips to scoop up the extra. The favorite dish of the day was probably the enchilada mazatlan, which was bursting with succulent shrimp and smothered in crack sauce. Don't forget the delicious handmade corn tortillas they serve -- perfect to sop up all that saucy goodness. 1/1 Stars for Value --Dishes ranged between $15-25, but serving sizes were huge. They don't skimp on the guac or meat. We ordered 5 dishes for 5 people and, including tax and tip, spent about $21pp. We were super stuffed and had to take leftovers home too. 1/1 Stars for Customer Service --I'm not usually one to care about customer service, but the servers here really stand out with their friendliness and attentiveness. I think no less than 5 different servers rotated and checked in on us throughout the meal. They were super fast to bring us chip/water refills as well as extra plates and utensils when they found out we were sharing.Bonus star because I don't know when I'll be back in Los Banos, but this place definitely is bookmarked for the future. I need to come back and try the menudo!"

"A friend told me about this restaurant and that how the food tasted very original and that they made homemade tortillas.Well let me tell you. They do make real original taste of Mexico! Also, they do make the tortillas. Flour or corn they make the tortillas in the moment. We order chile verde plate, my G-baby got the taco kids meal with rice, fries and beans. I got the shrimp a la devil. The chile verde was very tasty and spicy. The real Mexican flavor. My baby's taco was good according to him. He ate all the beans and the taco. That was what he really enjoyed. My meal was spicy but very tasty, flavorful and spicy, did I mention it was spicy! lol!! I really loved my shrimp a la devil sauce. The tortillas were soft and delicious. My husband got the flour tortillas and he said they tasted home made. I told him duh!! lol!! The service was great and friendly. Food was ready in no time. This is going to be one of our Mexican places to go. The only thing I would say that didn't meet my expectations was the rice. It was just blah. Not bluffy at all. The ambiance very familiar they do have Mexican music en the background. It was a scrumptious experience."

One bartender is a little light with the alcohol so when we see him I'm not ordering a cocktail I'm getting a michelada with negra modelo. Staff are alright bathrooms clean, tvs to watch the game and it's close by so we like going there."

"3/29/23 Getting lunch! Chicken and shrimp Molcajete Mixto with salsa verde ordered with extra hot sauce on the side. The worker was kind and said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I went in to get it shortly later.Small wait and greeted by a worker. The order was ready and brought out. Paid for the order and left. The restaurant is nice. Spanish music playing. Lunchtime! Large order. Split. You definitely get your moneys worth! My half was absolutely delicious! Flavorful! It comes with corn tortillas. Authentic and delicious! Tasty beans, rice and fresh salad come with it as well! Great hot sauce too! Mother said her half was the bomb! Great and fresh! Lots of leftovers! Another meal for both! Good service and delicious Chicken and shrimp Molcajete Mixto with salsa verde! Highly recommended!"

"I've been here a few times now and this is hands down my favorite spot in Fresno to get tacos. It feels like I'm in LA, from the layout and design of the place to the quality of the food, it's all so good! It's a chill spot and the workers have always been very nice. The food does take a little longer than expected to come out since their staff is limited. But it's worth it, especially if you're not in any rush and just came to hang out with some friends for a bit. I highly recommend this place!"

"We were starving at the end of our day road trip to Tulare from Los Angeles. We first tried to eat at another restaurant a few miles away, but the vibe was obnoxious and too loud to have a decent meal. Luckily we found Vejar's to save the day!Family style restaurant with a bar/lounge connected. The food was good, service was friendly and pretty fast. "Came here before our show at the Gallo. Very friendly service. Fresh made tortillas were delicious! Had something for everyone. We had the chili verde and grilled chicken. Both of them were delicious. They put on the soccer game when we asked. Music was lightly playing in the background and very upbeat but you could still talk. Would easily stop here again!!"

"This place has a Resturant side and bar side. Sat at the bar side; which was pretty busy and very chill. Service is good though. Ordered some drinks ....i ordered a pina colata... which was superb. Cool; refreshing; made me think I was in a tropical paradise for a minute. My other half and friends ordered beers. We decided we were a little hungry and needing something to munch on : so we ordered espe chips. Where have these been all my life? So good; the chips were thick; able to hold the toppings on well. The flavor; a little spicy; but tasty and addicting at the same time. Yum!"

"Great traditional Mexican foods. Today we ordered eggs and chile verde. The breakfast comes with eggs topped with chile verde, beans and potatoes. The flour tortillas are homemade. I love this restaurant because when we eat there it feels like you are eating your Mother's cooking. We have been customers for years. The Garcia Family has done a wonderful job of providing great food. The prices are reasonable and good. The restaurant is small but welcoming. The service is great. Try this restaurant. "From the outside you might think it's not a good restaurant. Don't judge the book from the cover. Service was excellent, food came quick, and everything was so delicious. The waiter was so attentive and very friendly. My husband was so happy with the service that he left a pretty good tip. It is a small restaurant but they have it well decorated. Its ambience was cozy and welcoming. They have enough room to seat. We order quesabirrias, chicken sincronizadas, pozole, green chicken enchiladas, and ramen birria. Let me tell you, if you want to taste the real Mexican flavor you have to visit them. My husband said that he really love the quesabirrias. That their flavor was the best he had ever had. The sincronizada was a little spicy because it had some pickles jalapeño inside. But still delicious. My daughter said the pozole was excellent. The flavor was on point and the meat was tender and flavorful. My mother in law loved the green enchiladas. She said the sauce was very tasty and spicy, But still manageable. My ramen soups was the bomb. I added some lemon and chile and it was so, so delicious. We were very satisfied. My ramen soup was big portion that I had some for lunch tomorrow. For drinks, we got Jamaica drink, and soft drink. I also got a piece is coffee flan for free. I got a coupon checking in on Yelp. It was so, so good!! Yum!! Highly recommend. We will definitely come back and try something different or the same thing!!"

"Yes! Heading home from Yosemite and swung by after a Yelp search. The bar area really called to me when entering so we heading there instead of the dining room. Had a good ambiance, nice vibe of the staff and patrons, and a decent amount of TV's for sports. Salsa is the #1 and immediate litmus test when entering a new Mexican restaurant and they passed and on top of that, they know well enough to give each person their own bowl of salsa.The bartender was very pleasant, the food was filling and good and if I didn't live 200+ miles away, I could see myself visiting more often!"

"One of the few places open on the 4th of July. We appreciate you! I placed our order online and picked it up about 10 min later. Our order was waiting for us. We ordered 2 entrees; camarones al mojo de ajo and steak fajitas. We also ordered a few sides of guacamole. The sides are very small. About 2 tbsp worth at $1.68 per side. The guacamole was tasty but I wouldn't buy them again due to the price. The staff was very friendly. We grabbed some complimentary chips and salsas to go!"

"Clean establishment and friendly service. Pricing is average. Pretty varied menu, I'm assuming they're owned by a Mexican and Vietnamese couple? lol interesting combination of foods. My bro and I wanted to try different things. Ordered egg rolls, spring rolls and asada tacos. Total was $28. Everything was fresh! I liked all the items we tried. Saw a lot of ppl ordering the Ban mi sandwiches, interested in trying that next time! I will come back soon. Overall good experience."

"El Tapatío is a Porterville institution. if you have not been and are in the area, they are certainly worth the visit. Expect giant portions and delicious fresh tostadas to go with their house salsa. Even after eating a large lunch I had enough leftovers to share between my wife and I for dinner. They were very busy at lunch, so was a little bit slow, but that can be forgiven because the value is there."

"This restaurant is located in what looks like an older home. And that might be abuela's because the dishes here are what I imagine she would cook if she was still here. The chips and salsa were really cool and they also brought out a cabbage and jalapeño salsa that was amazing and unique. The bean dip was fire too and got the appetite going.I browsed the menu and seen the Chicken Molé Poblano. I love trying molé and when I seen El Jardin's had won an award I couldnt pass it up. I was here with a large party after a water polo tournament for my son. So service was a bit slow but the server did her best refilling drinks and chips. When the food did come out it was hot and looked delicious. The molé was phenomenal! I can see why it won an award as it was the best molé I've ever had to this point in my young life. This spot is a must try if in the area. All the dishes that came out looked really good. Super authentic place with workers doing a great job at keeping it one of the best in Cali."
