Uptown Players

I always enjoy these productions for the quality acting and delivery. The best part is how various the shows are. The lobby of Kalita Humphries makes for good social interaction and the posters of all their plays there will take you down memory lane. I think the baseball story Take Me Out was the most fun. Especially if you were sitting in the wing seats. ;-)

My wife and I went to see Kinky Boots last night at the Uptown Players. We're new in town, and went on a lark - not really expecting much. We have seen the play twice before, including once on Broadway with Billy Porter singing the lead.We were delighted with the quality of the UP production. Cast was really first rate. Lee Walter, the actor portraying Lola, was certainly good enough to perform anywhere in the country, and the rest of the cast were talented and capable, with some more real standouts. Casting was clever and innovative, staging was especially well done for a production without half a million dollars for scenery and costumes. By the way, the BOOTS were spectacular.We are looking forward to more productions at the Uptown Players. It's a marvelous resource for the community.

Always a great show, they could perform the phone book and it would work. Easy to get to theater, not a bad seat in the house. Treat yourself and catch a show ‍

This company has the snarkiest, funniest, most compelling, well-funded, professionally cast and staged performances in the greater Austin area. OK, I am biased because I actually performed for them twice. The company draws a diverse crowd because they choose sexually and issue-relevant shows, most of which convert to the rather compact space really well.Some of my faves from the past:Pageant: 2006 Thrill Me: 2006Love, Valour ComapssionThe Broken HeartRuthlessRed Scare on SunsetDie Mommie DieThe owners have found a great niche, and they manage it well, all the way around. This theatre company should be on your list.

Regrets Only tonite! I am so glad I decided to get season tickets. Each performance gets better! The talent this group is bringing in is improving leaps and bounds! It truly is befitting this venue. Go laugh and be amazed how they portray this socially relevant topic with humor and insight.

Last night went to see Horton Foote's A Man From Atlanta. This was a well acted production, but not at the quality that is usually produced by Uptown Players. A lot of the issues with production was the story, the writing, and a bit with some odd direction and set design. I am glad I saw the show, but would not sit through it again. For sure though...I am very much looking forward to Broadway Our Way!

'Catch me if you can' was spectacular. Standing ovation immediately after performance ended. Full house. Great show.

Always unique, high-caliber theater with interesting storylines, talented actors, excellent musicians, theater professionals, and crews. UP is known for supporting LGBTQ performers with well-written, intense characterizations portrayed by gifted local actors.Shari S.
