This was our first time at "UNT's Sky Theatre." It's crazy to think that, between 2 of my kiddos, spending a combined 7 years at UNT. My Eldest Daughter from 2005 until she graduated in 2008 and my Youngest Son from 2011 until he graduated in 2015. We never attended one event at The "Sky Theatre" in all of those years, crazy! It's such a cool venue!Of all of the events we have attended at UNT, and there are quite a few when you have "Vocal Music Education" kiddos that graduate. The "Sky Theatre" is,by far, the easiest to find, the easiest to find parking and we didn't have to pay for parking either! That was definitely a bonus. The ONLY bonus tho So, when I saw the advertisement trailer of the Grammy Award winning, James Hood's, "Mesmerica" (I'm pretty sure the title refers to being "mesmerized" by it). Additionally, the amazing reviews it received, from the year prior, the deal was sealed! I immediately started looking for tickets. I liked that there were many show/time options to choose from, unlike a concert, where it's just one night and time. Since it did have such great reviews and the trailer was amazing, I thought that I should choose a time when it might not be packed, earlier in the evening. I didn't like that there wasn't an option for assigned seating. Whether your VIP or GA, it's first come first served. Hence the purchase of VIP tix, as it gave us a thirty minute head start inside to find our seats. Only to find out, it didn't even matter We chose the 6 O'Clock show, so we arrived at 5:15, as the required arrival time was 5:30, to allow VIP in early, to find the "best" seats. We thought we were in the wrong place when we arrived, as the building was a ghost town. The "Mesmerica" table was empty, other than a poster. We stood waiting directly in front of the entrance to the theatre. By the time 5:30 rolled around, there was ONE additional guest. At about 5:35, a venue representative rushes over and asks us to move to a roped off area as, "it's going to be packed in a minute!" We're like, oh ok She walks away and returns 10 minutes later and announces that everyone with a green bracelet can come through. There were 3 of us by this time. So the guy that had just arrived and had just walked in the building, immediately gets to walk into the theatre So were like ("really?) we told rep, that we'd been there since 5:15, as tix stated that if VIP were purchased, we'd be let in a half hour early, to find the best seats. She allows us to go in next and tells us the best seats are in the back of the venue. Which, by the way has a total of about 120 seats, very small, obviously a classroom as well. So, there really aren't any "bad" seats VIP was a complete and total waste of So ALL 3 of us are now inside the theatre waiting for the show to begin, it's about 5:40, by this time. The ceiling was very cool! It looked like a starry night outside on a classroom's ceiling ...Slowly but surely couples and small groups of friends started arriving. By the time the show was supposed to start at 6, there was a total about 15-18 people. So crazy, not even half of the theatre was filled. The host comes out promptly at 6, to start the event. Of course you're trying to lay your head back, so you don't miss a "screen" coming up. It starts with an old man telling us to relax and open our minds, etc. He speaks entirely too much, especially when you think you're going to be listening to Grammy Award winning James Hood's music. Finally, the slide show/screen saver begins. Seriously, it's a glorified/amplified screen saver! SO disappointing It's about an hour long. A handful of screens are cool and a couple are quite 3-D as you feel like you're going to be hit in the head, lol. Hence the 2 stars. But mostly the music and screens repeat a lot in the little less than an hour event. It's such a rip-off, we should all be given a refund and they should stop advertising it as something so amazing, it'll change your life, because it's a scam! Even though there weren't a lot of people, he over charges! He's raking it in, by having so many shows, with few people. Even though there are such small audiences attending, each person is paying anywhere between $30-$50, with additional fees, EACH! Stay away and save your hard earned

I was excited about going to this show. The advertisement was very colorful and vivid, but the actual show was not. Very disappointing. Most of the time the colors were very dull and boring. The music was the same over and over again. After about 30 minutes i was ready to leave.

Jim was our host and his enthusiasm for all things sky was endearing. For a few bucks we saw a stellar show, asked some questions eagerly answered by Jim and got to see the dollar coaster show on the surround screen. Awesome! I've got so much learning to do about the universe. Jim and the sky theater has inspired me!
