The Boiled Owl Tavern

Small, no frills and I LOVE IT!!Truth be told, the selling point of this bar is the punk vibe that took me right back to my late teens!Loved the bar staff, loved the tunes, I was back in a comfortable place in my memory, roaming the Houston alternative scene. Ramones, Buzzcocks, The Hew York Dolls and The Sex Pistols....Heaven, without getting stomped in the pit at my age! (*ahem!).If you're on a pub crawl, don't miss seeing this place if part of your heart is still punk.

The Boiled Owl is a favorite dive bar of ours when we are near the Magnolia area. It's everything you want for your local spot, with good prices, a pool table, and plenty of seating. They also have a decent patio, with a handful of tables.

My husband and I love the Boiled Owl. We come here every chance we get since we don't have anything this cool in North FW. We love the music, vibe and inclusivity. We also collect their fun, unique t-shirts. Bartenders are fast and friendly. Door staff has always been friendly and fun. We've never had a bad experience and no reason to think we ever will.

We were out with friends on a rather empty Magnolia one night at the very start of the COVID scare. We were going from bar to bar and stopped here. There were a lot of people smoking on the patio, but not many inside. As we went in, we were stopped and asked for ID. The youngest person in our group was 47, and the oldest 58. We thought he was kidding. Nope. I don't carry a purse when I'm out like this, so I didn't have an ID except for an expired DL my husband carries for me. We presented that, and were told he wouldn't let me in because it was expired. Seriously?? What an ass. DOB was plainly the same and I wasn't driving, so.... All I can say is, if you're over 30, don't even think about going here. Definitely age discrimination and will definitely NEVER go back. Way too many better places to visit.

Favorite place in the area. Safe for any race, sexual proclivity, and gender. However if you're rude or mean, this is not the place for you. The staff does not stand for bullies and will defend any bullied clientele. Love karaoke Mondays, they accept all types. Movie Bingo Tuesdays are fun and wholesome too.

Friendly staff, great drinks, they play great music and movies on the television instead of sports (which is a great change of pace, I don't like sports)Interesting and entertaining crowd.

Do you ever miss the feeling of the first day of school and not knowing where to sit in the cafeteria? Well, walk right into this place and get ready to step right back into that anxiety ridden nightmare of a memory at THE BOILED OWL TAVERN. Here, if you ain't a regular you ain't welcome. We were scoffed at for asking for water. "You're drinking water like bitches?" Also why is the music so unbelievably loud? Coldplay, Oasis and a few other grocery store hits were cutting off any kind of conversation. Ready to approach the bar and ask for a drink? Get ready for some little bitch treatment when they won't even look you in the eyes and also act annoyed that you are even there in the first place. Oops I forgot to take this sign above my head down that says treat me like complete shit.

Funny, how they talk about bullies and not putting up with them. First time in and the bartender wasn't having a good night and customers felt entitled to their opinions that included "assault". I came in trying to have a good time for a friend's birthday and saw they had Jamo Cold Brew. Bartender couldn't suggest a drink with the lesser-carried Jameson, other than "people like it", then mistakenly pours two drinks and snatches/spills one across the bar when told it wasn't needed. He chilled out later.Later, LGBT patron slaps gentleman across the back after having the shirt bought off his back and say what HE is doing is illegal. Dude came out of nowhere to express his thoughts with unnecessary actions. Just keep your hands off of other people.Just my experience. No one came in with ill-intentions and it wasn't the best of experiences. Will give it another shot. Not anytime soon.

The bouncer turned us away (we are 30 years old) because he thought we were underage and didn't believe our IDs were real. What a joke.

Good prices on their drinks and a very laid back atmosphere on most days, but can be a very energetic atmosphere as well depending on the day.
