There are lots of events that take place here and it usually provides a great grown up space to have a good night. From music to poetry to plays you can get a little bit of everything here. Mr. Curtis King, the founder of TBAAL, is personable and usually allows a Q&A after the performances. There are multiple stages at TBAAL - from the main stage - to the more intimate Clarence Muse Theater, however I don't think I've ever had a bad seat. I highly recommend a membership - it helps support TBAAL as well gives you extra little perks (discounted tickets, early entrance, etc). However note that there is NO FREE parking at TBAAL. There are paid parking lots across the street.

Excellent place to come take in our culture. I've lived in Dallas my entire life and never once stopped inside the building. It's remarkable. Parking is somewhat difficult, but it's downtown so you already expected that. Great to throw events, watching films, or take in art inspired by the culture. Highly recommend!

The facility needs some upgrades. Attending an event during dinner time and not able to take food or drinks in is a challenge. Doors open at 6pm, event starts at 7 and doesn't end until after 10pm. I appreciate having the venue and events available but changes are needed.

Whenever Will Downing, Peabo Bryson and Jeffrey Osborne are in the same line up on the same day on the same stage back to back. You pack your bags and go see them. This line up put on at the 4th annual Riverfront Jazz Festival at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters theater was phenomenal. Best aphrodisiac a man could give a woman lol. Awesome concert. Back to Los Angeles we go.

Brought a date here for their Jazz and Poetry session. It was a good performance and quite lovely. You will need to pay for parking in this area. There were two performers that night. A woman that had poems and poetry and A man that used the band for his poetry/jazz songs. It was an interesting experience and I would love to come back for more.

I recently attended a poetry and jazz event here. The spoken word was awesome, meaningful and impactful. I really valued the transparency and authenticity the artist so clearly displayed. The poets included Wayne Henry and Jayon Rustin, who are both members of the 2017 Dallas Poetry Slam Team, which is currently ranked 5th in the nation. Their poems were thought provoking, passionate and inspiring. I appreciate TBALL for continuing to highlight high caliber artist such as these two young men. Well done!

Volunteered here last month during a traveling play performance. Was able to get quite a few new members so for that, I'm very happy. I was invited to watch the play for free by the volunteer manager but didn't take her up on it. Maybe I should have, the music coming from the theater was very uplifting.TBAAL, whose favorite daughter is Erykah Badu, is a well recognized organization in Dallas and does good work in the community. They are also responsible for the Dallas Jazzfest on the river and I'm looking forward to it.

I've used the venue twice to host two events. They're okay aesthetically the rooms inside are bare and don't look updated, the tables and chairs we used for our event that came with the venue were old, dirty, and had stains. The people who work there are some of the nicest and most accommodating I've had the pleasure to work with. We also had graduation here and it was just so so nothing too spectacular but very affordable and willing to help.

The Black Academy of Arts and Letters is an organization that not only provides great entertainment, but it also provides a great service to the Dallas community.I've had the privilege to work with Curtis King (the founder of TBAAL) for the past 6 years on the annual MLK concert that TBAAL gives. Through these performances, I've seen how much of an impact that the Academy has on the children in the Dallas community. Kids who normally might be getting into trouble are instead performing in front of large audiences, showcasing and enhancing their performing arts skills. It's always a good thing when you can give a person who has exceptional talent a platform for them to express themselves. There's no way to measure how much of a positive impact that this organization has brought to this community. Along with the positivity with the kids, TBAAL puts on great shows that feature top of the line entertainers. World famous artists such as Cece Winans, Erykah Badu (who actually got started in the academy), and Wynton Marsalis always grace the stage at TBAAL. If you check their schedule at TBAAL.org, you are sure to find a great event that they'll be putting on at any time of the year. When you attend a performance at TBAAL, not only will you be attending an event that will definitely entertain you, but you will also be contributing to a great organization that does great things for Dallas.

Mr Curtis King, along with 5 local churches collaborated to put on an amazing rendition of events surrounding the last days of Jesus. The musical titled "The Death of Jesus" was well written and performed! The actors, actresses, singers, dancers, and entire stage crew worked tirelessly to reenact the special time in history. It was Bible based, kept our attention and easy to follow and appreciate. Thank you for being timely with the start and overall program. Great collaboration! Praise God for artistic expressions involving our Christian faith! #BeBoldProfessingChrist
