Good breakfast and super waitstaff. Starlite is typical of most hometown cafes. Just good home cooking. The atmosphere is typical of the genre also.

It was wonderful and fast. I'd go back anytime. It was clean and a great chicken fried steak. I was so happy that they offered a small hamburger that was perfect !

This little cafe was so good. We had breakfast and were so surprised at the quality and low prices! Biscuits and gravy were delicious and the regular size omelette was perfect for me. My husband would definitely need the larger omelette. The service was good too.

Great small town comfort food with friendly service. If you like home style cooking then you will love this place. We took a quick stop coming through Rising Star Texas and there they were. Fast and friendly comfort food from great folks who have been doing it for a long time. They know what they're doing. Will go back for sure if in the area!

Down home cooking at it's best! Located in Rising star, you're not going to have 100's of reviews because, well, that's everyone in town! We stopped here while staying at are farm located not far away based on recommendations from ours family. We were NOT disappointed! had the catfish special - catfish was good, the fries and okra - homemade and delicious. Finally top it off with apple pie - not to sweet - just right. Nexts, the cliental. We ordered to go. Next time we'll eat in. We had such a great time listening and visiting with the locals that were there! Can't wait to go back!

Don't expect to see many reviews for this gem. Once you see the crowd in the Cafe you'll understand why there's hardly any reviews. I believe the population sign said 847? Everyone in the Cafe was very nice even the locals that come in were very welcoming. At first I was hesitant to try the place but I'm glad I did. The food is amazing and prepared from scratch. Can't beat the price and portions. I had the Special, chicken strips (4), Fresh Cut Fries, toast, large bowl of (thick) gravy, chocolate cake, a salad, and Sweet tea. The portions are like the first trip you make when you're serving yourself your first round during Thanksgiving :). I wish I took pictures before I started to eat but I forgot :(.

I was driving back to Abilene from Sugar Land (West of Houston) and encountered a road closing on HWY 36. It completely threw my lunch plans off. Once I finally got back on 36 it was getting late for lunch. I searched yelp for food in Rising Star and it brought up the Starlight Cafe. At this point my belly button was starting to shake hands with my backbone and I needed to eat. I was annoyed because I couldn't find hours for the diner, so I thought maybe it's open all day? Once I walked in a very kind lady asked what I wanted. I placed an order for a double meat hamburger and some cheese sticks along with an Unsweet tea. When I was entering I had noticed a sign that said daily lunch special I forget the beginning time but the ending time was 2:00. I told her I noticed the sign and asked what time they closed (there are no business hours posted on the door). She told me 2:00. Y'all I had walked in at 1:38 and I told her that I was so sorry and I wouldn't have come in had I known that. Let me tell you this young lady was the epitome of Texas Southern Hospitality! She told me it was no problem at all! She asked me if I wanted it to go or dine in and I told her I'm not going to keep you just so I can eat so make it to go. She told me I have a lot to do in the back so if you want to eat here you are more than welcome. Trust me with the time I'd spent in that little fleet car sitting down in a spacious diner was music to my ears. Another young lady, I'm thinking the cook, asked me if I wanted my cheese sticks right away or if wanted them to come out with my burger. I said right away please. She brought them out a few minutes later and asked if I'd like something to dip them in. I asked for ranch and she brought it out and told me just ask if you need more. These cheese sticks were pretty good size and worth the money. Then she brought out my hamburger. I don't know if these were 1/2 pound patties or what, but they were generously sized. My only complaint is I prefer my burgers with the meat on the bottom and the veggies on the top. With that said after I shifted things around I was extremely happy with my order. The next time I stop in there I have no doubt they will fix it to my liking per request. My biggest regret is I didn't have more cash on hand to tip them what they deserved in addition to the 20% that my company credit card allows. Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful, service and great food!
