I've ate here occasionally for the past 7 years and tonight was the biggest disappointment and I suspect it's because it was my first time choosing the bar area instead of hibachi. We arrived too early for hibachi service, so we chose the bar side. Reception and service was pleasant so we ordered edamame, panko prawns, chicken teriyaki dinner, and shrimp teriyaki dinner. The prawn panko appetizer meat was mushy and bland despite having panko. Truly unforgettable. The edamame was decent.Next to arrive was shrimp teriyaki and from my perspective it looked terrible. The shrimp was bland or steamed with some bottled sauce doused on top. The veggies were bell pepper, shaved carrots, a few broccoli pieces, and the rest was onion. It was served on a sizzling fajita cast iron plate. Having lived in Seattle, this was bizarre to me. About 5 minutes later, my chicken teriyaki arrived with the same vegetables. The chicken was stark white and rubbery with some weird teriyaki bottled sauce also doused on top. Extremely bland. Some of the broccoli was burnt from the cast iron as well as carrot shreds instead of pieces. The rice was borderline stale. To me teriyaki should be cooked on a flat top, slightly caramelized, and be served in a bento configuration. I've never been served bell pepper for a teriyaki combo but here we are. I decided to power through until finding a black hair nestled between the chicken slices. None of it was appealing to begin with which really set me in a foul mood. Part of it was I've always had appetizing meals from prior hibachi visits, but the bar side kitchen cannot cook for shit. Teriyaki Madness or Panda Express could have done a far better presentation and tasted better than this. I was so disgusted. They took my meal off the check but I'm seriously disappointed and likely won't return. The owners really need to soul search their menu and make some serious changes before I'm going to return.

I asked my students for a recommendation for sushi near the school and several mentioned this spot. After doing additional research, I was happy to find out that they offer some of their rolls 2 for $10 at lunch time so I was sold! I went right before noon and they weren't suoer crowded yet, so I was able to get my rolls quick which was important since this teachers lunch break is only a measly 30 minutes. It was very clean inside of the establishment, and there was tons of seating available. It's a pretty big spot! I even saw a room in the back that could be used for private events/gatherings. Pictured are my rolls which are covered in the crunchy topping, not because they came with it... only because I requested it! Both my spicy crab roll and my tempura shrimp roll were delicious and fresh. I can't wait to go back to try more of the rolls they have to offer as the list is very extensive.

Very good overall Hibachi experience. Good flavor, good service and quiet ambiance. We went on a Sunday so wasn't very busy which was actually good.

I was excited to go to Shoji for a birthday dinner. In the past, I've been to hibachi restaurants that had both great food & a great show! I very rarely leave negative / 1 reviews - so this is one for those to read and take caution. The hibachi show was very basic, our chef was not entertaining, did ONE piece of entertainment, no personality, nothing funny/fun about it. The hibachi teriyaki chicken was mediocre at best, the fried rice was the best thing, but beware there is a $4 upcharge on fried rice. They will ask "white or fried" when it's hibachi time, and fried rice was apparently an additional $4 ???? How???? Why? What's the point???? Additionally, beware of menu price inaccuracy. As of today, 1/20/2023, Teryaki chicken hibachi is $16 on the menu, which includes rice. However tonight once we received our ticket, my food was $19 + $4 for fried rice ??? Make it make sense! Additionally, I ordered the stuffed avocado, according to the menu, it was meant to be an avocado stuffed with crab. However, when the stuffed avocado arrived to the table, it was actually stuffed with raw spicy tuna ??If you're looking for mediocre food + experience, and for a bill that's MUCH higher than you anticipated - this is a great place to eat!

Jason yelled - raised his voice and started his rant with "Stop it!" - at our 10 year olds because, in his words, "they were changing their drink orders" and he doesn't have kids and doesn't care. He went on to yell at the kids that he wouldn't serve them. His rant lasted for about 25 seconds. We were in shock, wondering if he was about to proclaim it a joke or if perhaps the hibachi grill was hot and he needed the children to be calm for safety reasons. We were a party of 4 moms and 7 kids, eating before attending a special event. Once we clarified with him what he was upset about, I calmly asked him to direct corrections of children parents. Shoji has a tremendous growth opportunity here. Jason should learn to control his temper, work on effective strategies when dealing with the public, and consider his choices more wisely. Our family will not return to Shoji while they have aggressive employees who yell at kids for being kids. We dined there most recently in December prior to this. Shoji needs to re-assign Jason if he cannot control his temper. I am extremely disappointed in the experience and even concerned in this employee's well being if he is this easily triggered. I'm giving it two stars since we have loved this restaurant for years. I wish we felt okay returning, but we will now give the Hibachi restaurant just north of us a try.

This restaurant has a side for the hibachi but they also have a side that's just a restaurant! Their sushi is super fresh and you get a lot for what you pay! I think this place is highly overlooked! Their poke bowl is outstanding and it even comes with miso soup! The service was super fast. Definitely will be coming back.

I would absolutely recommend staying away from Shoji Hibachi & Sushi. The food is average, but the service and manager makes up for any positives with utter incompetence and complete lack of knowledge of how to run a restaurant. My most recent trip we sat in the hibachi area. Two of us ordered hibachi and two of us ordered sushi as our meal. After they were halfway done with the hibachi I began to ask about the status of my rolls. They kept saying they were working on them. Then they would send another waiter to tell me it would be 5-10 minutes at the most. I asked them twice to cancel my order if it would be more than three more minutes twice and then they finally brought it 57 minutes after we ordered it. It was only five small rolls. The other two in our party had been done eating for 20 minutes when we received our food.I spoke to the manager and she never apologized, just told me they were doing their best. Not even a one dollar discount for all of the trouble. They had a large to go order and they got backed up. Sad that someone running a restaurant cannot figure to prioritize the in house customers. We have had a number of issues in the past where she cannot keep reservations and will make you wait. On one occasion I was standing waiting for a table next to the chairs and she yelled at me to sit down. If they had someone else running it in the evening they would have a lot more potential to be a decent place. There are plenty of good Japanese restaurants in the area. Do yourself a favor and visit one of those.
