I really enjoyed going to Shanghai Taste. We went twice in our week-long trip, which is saying something because there are so many choices in the Dallas/surrounding area. The food was really good. I especially liked their XLB and pan fried buns. Both are very juicy to the point you really have to be careful to not burn yourself. Which is another very good point about Shanghai Taste, the food is piping hot. Very often I go to restaurants serving similar cuisines and the buns are not as hot as they should be.I also like that they have a little blackboard showing their specials. Both times we went, we had a party of 6 to 7, so we were able to try a variety of dishes. Everything was from good to great. The downside about Shanghai Taste is that it is a very narrow/small space. And both times they kept the restaurant very warm to the point of slightly uncomfortable for us. It won't deter me from going though. This is a must-visit every time I am in the area.

Finally got to try this new little place without there being a huge line.I can see why there usually are lines though. The fried and steamed soup dumplings were awesome. The broth was so flavorful without being salty and the wrappers were delicate without easily breaking. Just perfect. The scallion pancakes and Shanghai noodles were delicious as well.Service was incredibly fast, which is why I was too busy eating to take more than the picture of the first dish that came out.Prices are reasonable, too, so absolutely give them a try.

Shanghai Taste is a fantastic new addition to the DFW dining scene, and it's an expansion from the well-known Vegas location by Jimmy Li.First impressions: The restaurant is located across from Mitsuwa off 75. The space is long and narrow, with most tables set for 2-4 people. Larger groups might need to wait for tables to be combined, so plan accordingly during peak hours. One standout detail? The staff--super friendly and impressively stylish (I couldn't help but notice and had to give them a shoutout). Now, onto the food:Overall, the food is excellent, and I'll definitely be back. While my rating is a little critical, it's only because this place sets a high bar. * Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao): One of the best in Dallas so far. The skin is perfectly thin, and there's a generous amount of soup inside. Bonus: Like Din Tai Fung, they have a glass window where you can watch the dumplings being made--a big hit with the kids. * Shanghai Rice Cakes: Chewy and enjoyable, but a bit on the sweeter side for my taste. It seems they use the same sauce for the Shanghai noodles. * Smoked Fish: Though I didn't order it this time, I've tried it before, and it's delicious. Be prepared--it's bony, so it takes a bit of work to eat, but it's worth it. * Sheng Jian Bao (Pan-Fried Soup Bao): A family favorite! Similar to soup dumplings but encased in a bao with a crispy, pan-fried bottom. Be careful not to lose the soup with your first bite. A must-try. * Scallion Noodles: A simple but satisfying dish. Our kids loved it. It's a bit oily, but the flavor is spot on. * Crispy Shrimp: This dish was a pleasant surprise! Crispy deep-fried shrimp with a sweet sauce on top. You can eat the whole shrimp, shell and all, which gives it a chip-like crunch. Highly recommend. * Spicy Wontons: A solid dish with a mala (numbing spice) kick. While we still prefer Wu Wei Din's version, this one stands out for its unique flavor profile. * Chinese Broccoli: Cooked well but slightly too salty for our liking.Overall thoughts: Shanghai Taste is solid, and I'll definitely be making more trips here to try other dishes. Great food, friendly staff, and a fun dining experience for the whole family.

I'm glad that Dallas is a growing hub of Asian food options, and Shanghai taste is one of them. Not too many places offer soup dumplings like the ones served here. Their crab soup dumplings and normal soup dumplings are very solid, although a little pricey.Their curry noodles are also very good; they add a warmth that provides shelter from dropping temperatures. Overall, I'd give this place a shot, but I don't like the idea of normalizing $20-$30 meals and still not being full.

I was excited to try Shanghai Taste but left disappointed. The restaurant is a small, narrow space with about a dozen tables, and we waited 30 minutes for a table after checking in on an iPad. The service was lackluster--they only offered water to drink and never gave us a refill. The Sheng Jian (pan-fried soup dumplings) were the highlight--scalding hot and flavorful. Unfortunately, the Shanghai fried rice was overly salty, with an overwhelming soy sauce taste. The sweet and sour pork ribs tasted burnt and were drenched in sauce to mask it. Some of our food, like the stir-fried vegetables, never even arrived. With poor service and mediocre food, I won't be back.

I visited my godmother's restaurant in Richardson last month and mentioned that I wanted to try Shanghai Taste in Plano. She warned me off, saying the food was awful. But my best friend suggested we give it a shot today. I'm of the opinion that it's a place that's more geared towards those who enjoy a generous helping of MSG and sweet flavors. The wonton and pan-fried buns were like a flavor bomb of MSG that I just couldn't handle. The food was underwhelming, and the stir-fried beef noodle was way too sweet. The deep-fried pork chops were the only decent dish. While people have different tastes, I won't be returning. Overall everything they cooked are overwhelming for MSGPS: make sure you drink lots of water!

this place is more like a 3.5 out of 5 stars. i was craving Sheng Jian Bao and we were in the area, so we ended up walking in. Luckily, there was one table left, so we didn't need to wait. The interior is kinda interesting. Its like a elongated hallway full of tables. and they have a glass kitchen where you can see them make the xiao long baos. I also like the pictures they hung on the wall, depicting all the different types of food they serve. We ended up getting a Sheng Jian Bao (pan fried dumplings), crab xiao long bao (xlb), wonton soup, malantou, and shanghai rice cake. It was a lot of food for 2 people, and i think we spent like close to 60 bucks for everything. Out of all the things we ordered, the crab XLB was the best, but the sheng jian bao was also good. I was really shocked to see how fast they bought out the food. No joke, we placed the ordered for the sheng jian bao, and it came out in like 3 minutes. (guess its already cooked, and they probably just reheated it or something). My wife really liked the malantou veggie dish, which she says its rare to find in supermarkets / restaurants here in texas. My only gripe was the water. I don't know, but it tasted funny to me. my wife said it was fine... lol

I really liked the pan fried soup dumplings. I have not seen it before but the dumplings were full of juice and very delicious. I did not like the chili wonton but I have also heard that the noodles here are good so I will try it again next time. It is a little pricey but the staff were very friendly. The restaurant was a little dirty and I thought it was strange how the water is already poured at every table. My water had some dust or something in it.

This restaurant is my new favorite place. I've gotten or tried at least ten things here and it was almost all good to amazing. Chili Wontons:this dish is the best! better than my previous favorite place to get this dish, Din Tai Fung. The chilii wontons here have thin skin, perfectly seasoned filling and spicy sauce. it's just absolute perfection.Pork XLB:The skin thickness is perfect and you can see all the soupiness pooled in there. I usually don't enjoy this as much bc i think as a concept it's a bit one note, but I do think this place has one of the best XLB in the area.Smoked Duck (off official menu special)It's served lukewarm and it wasn't really much to eat in the restaurant but it makes the best leftovers and for some reason tastes so much better reheated.Scallion Pancake:tastes super thin and super homemade, very good!Shanghai Pork Wonton soup:my friend got this, i tried it, the flavors are a bit simple. there are better options. Shanghai Scallion oil noodles:the noodles were nice but the seasoning and flavors were not very umami or interesting. Sheng Jian Bao:husband's favorite dish. meat is seasoned well, perfectly cooked. It's a good dish, there are other places in the area that do it just as well (China Queen), but it's done well here

Me and my mom have been to Shanghai Taste many times over the last handful of months and have loved many of the dishes they have to offer! 小笼包 has been a favorite dish of mine ever since I was a kid, but the ones offered here have become my favorite place to get them! The 生煎包 is admittedly something I haven't tried before coming here, but it's a dish they're renown for, with the crispy bottom perfectly complimenting the juicy meat and soup inside. Other standout dishes to me were the sweet and sour ribs (fall off the bone delicious!), the scallion oil noodles, and the crispy shrimp.Of their specials, right now there's a glutinous rice cake dessert that has a crispy outside but the familiar chewiness of glutinous rice desserts but with sweet gooey brown sugar syrup inside. That dessert isn't usually my type of thing but our server was so kind in recommending it that I had to try it!Overall, pretty much everything I've had here is amazing tasting and I fully recommend here if you want delicious Chinese/上海 cuisine. Also, this week, they started opening for morning hours (9-11), so if you ever need your cravings fed, you know where to go!
