I am a huge fan of mine trains and Runaway Mine Train did just the job. This was one of my first roller coasters when we visited SFOT, and while everyone is always asking "Why are you riding a kids roller coaster?", it's important to think about the history and traditions these mine trains have. The layout is pretty similar to Dahlonega Mine Train back at SFOG, maybe not as intense, but I did like the scenery of the ride, as it looked like we were in some forest. It's a great way to start your day at the park -- of course, yes there are some jerks and turbulence, but that's the beauty of a mine train. If you are a true roller coaster fanatic, you will also appreciate the beauty of mine trains and I hope they will never go away.

I think this ride is okay for an oldie but it can be rough around the edges as it can be janky on the corners. I just ride this just to ride this. I do like the cool theming on some of the parts. But I sometimes ride it because the line is pretty short. It does go by pretty quick though and operations are good.

Not my favorite ride but I get on here because this is the only ride my sister will get on without crying (mind you she is 21!). There is always a long line but most of the time it goes by quick! The ride itself is not scary at all so I say is a good 'beginner' coaster to ease on to the big ones. What i like is that at the end of the coaster you have the saloon you go through and depending on the holiday the employees dress up the mannequins. From my understanding, this was the first tubular roller coaster in the park. There is a historical plaque right by the entrance that details the history of the roller coaster.

A classic ride, which I am glad Six Flags has kept all these years. The park doesn't have many mid-level thrills like this.

It's hard to beat the original. That's right folks, this was the very first 'mine train' style roller coaster in history, and it debuted here at SFOT back in 1966. In fact, it's one of the first tubular steel coasters worldwide, and its existence helped to usher in a new era of thrill machines. What makes a mine train coaster unique is its length, measured not in feet of track, but rather ride duration (as in seconds on the clock). Most offer relatively milder thrills in comparison to their 200ft/80mph brethren, but can still run upwards of 3 minutes, which is quite long by roller coaster standards. Several top out at only 50ft in height and rarely surpass 30 or 40mph, yet often times the rough-and-tumble ride can still leave you pleasantly surprised and/or battered & bruised.SFOT's Runaway Mine Train has three separate lift hills (multiple chain lifts are yet another distinct feature of these types of rides) and some mining-themed objects dispersed throughout the course. There are also several tunnels, the last of which dives underneath a small lake. This is an ACE (American Coaster Enthusiast) landmark, and rightly so! The sign in the entrance queue states this [see attached] and they're even given a nice shout-out following the 3rd lift hill, where the train passes through the 'Ace' Saloon and Hotel, which is not a coincidence.Because this ride--like many mine trains across the world--rely heavily on the terrain and low-to-the-ground maneuvers to deliver thrills, the coaster closes when the area experiences flooding or high water levels. Apart from that, the ride crews keep it running constantly and wait times are negligibly small. So while this may not be the fastest, longest or scariest ride around, its role in roller coaster history cannot be argued, and it's perfect for families and young'uns getting their coaster ridin' training wheels. Yeehaw!

If you seen "Indiana Jones and the Temple of doom" that mine cart scene. It's kinda like that. Runaway Mine Train isn't the greatest ride at Six Flags but it is fun and why not ride it. If the line is too long and looks to be a 60 minute wait, then skip it. If it looks to be a 5/10 minute wait, try it.

Watch your stuff! They make you leave it in a bin that is up for anyone (guests AND employees) to steal. They let people cut in line in front of you even though there's a sign that says no line jumping. Guess if they are the "right" color, it's all okay. This is an old ride that's been at the park for decades. If you have wonderful childhood memories riding it and you want to keep, stay away. You don't want to see what this place has become!
