Penn to Paper is the perfect elevated dinner date night spot that still somehow maintains a low-key atmosphere. We have visited about four times now since the restaurant changed to Penn to Paper, every time was a great experience! For lunch one day, I had the Cuban brisket sandwich with a side of fries. Sandwich is perfectly toasted Texas toast, with chopped brisket, pickles and a yummy mustard sauce. The brisket was very juicy, and the helping of brisket is generous and spills out on every bite. We've gone to dinner a couple of times here, and the vibe is sophistication meets chill. Dim ambient lighting suits the designer looking furniture and cocktail lounge in the back. Last night they had live jazz music, which was awesome. We tried the chicken fried brisket (a little dry, but to be expected when frying brisket) with very creamy mac and cheese and crispy fries, the pimento brisket sandwich (SO GOOD) and tempura brussel sprouts (they were a little soggy), and our mixed drinks were top notch. The staff is always very friendly, and we have received great service even on very busy nights. This will definitely be one of our weekly date night rotations in the future.

2-2.5 star and only because the service staff was great. Had a two meat plate - a BBQ staple. Unfortunately the brisket was way over cooked/dry, pulled pork was off (a very odd taste and also like there was some filler in it - can't put my finger on the description). And ironically the toast had so much butter it was dripping with oil. Tempura Brussel sprouts were cooked with the oil too cold so the batter soaked up the oil making them "meh" at best. Currently there are other much better BBQ places in Ellis Co. and with much more reasonable prices. I wish the owners luck and hope they take the feedback and look on how to improve.

First time here. Seated on the patio with the overhead heaters which was great. No pets - even better. Server was nice. Order was accurate. Dry rub wings are finger licking good. The wedge is huge and delicious. The smoked chicken enchilada plate was awesome and filling. Food temp was perfect. The staff members were hustling and no one was standing around scrolling on their cell phone. That comes from great management. Thank you!

Tried Penn to Paper for lunch. Service was slow and our server wasn't that attentive. My salad was okay, a little too much dressing. Our granddaughter enjoyed the burger. She said it was really good. May just an off day so we will try again.

Stopped in for a late lunch on a Friday and the place wasn't very busy. I ordered the potato topped with sausage. Now when it came out there was no bbq sauce with it so we did have to ask for that. I was disappointed that the potato was still hard so I couldn't really get into it like I wanted to. The sausage was really good though I would order it again. The restaurant itself is really cute and gives a welcoming vibe. There is construction so that can make it hard to get to but overall would go back. Oh yeah, the drinks are decent just have to get the right one.

The place had a great smell and played all types of music. The restaurant was very lovely and will be coming back to try more. We had the pitmaster sampler and requested no ribs and more brisket. It was all so good. The pulled pork was a little greasy for me. The Mac and cheese had such great flavor as well as the green beans. We had three people in our party and couldn't finish it. They were great left overs.

Penn to Paper seems to be a relatively new barbecue joint in Downtown Midlothian (I saw Google reviews and saw it used to be a different barbeque joint before PLUS I'm the first person to review here) and we were able to visit thanks to my friends who live in Mansfield. There are just too many BBQ competitions in the DFW area, so I knew I shouldn't have high expectations going into this mom n' pop kinda store. When we visited on a Wednesday evening, the place was relatively empty but we were able to get sat pretty quickly.I ordered the 2 meat platter and ordered the brisket and the cheddar jalapeno sausages, with a mac n cheese and the barbecue baked beans. My other friends ordered a sandwich and a loaded potato and it was disappointing to say that my food took the longest to come out. I'm not trying to complain here, but must I also say my food was not hot? It was a little cold... but I didn't want to be mean about it. The quality of the meat was standard. It wasn't extraordinary like you would see at Terry Black or Pecan Lodge but it was solid. I wouldn't say it was bad. The cheddar sausage definitely could have been better. The spicy barbeque sauce that they serve it with is pretty good. The mac and cheese was probably my favorite on my platter -- loaded with six cheeses. Baked BBQ beans were eh. Overall -- it wasn't bad. Just your neighborhood BBQ joint. Service was friendly and it seemed like a good ole' place for the locals to come by and get some barbeque. I'm not usually in Midlothian a lot, so I don't know if I'll be able to come back -- but it was a pretty OK dinner for me.

We love Penn to Paper on a Friday night when they have live music. Last night, we tried the trio dip to start-really tasty with the homeade chips. We also enjoyed the chicken fried brisket (jalapeno gravy is memorable) , Pimento cheese BBQ sandwich (the pimento cheese melts perfectly) and the prime rib sandwich was a great surprise. Sides are great-okra (love the seasoning), green beans, mac and cheese. The food and service are delightful. Great local spot with a fun vibe.
