Megu is one of the most underrated Japanese restaurant I've had the pleasure of visiting. They have a variety of eating experiences, ranging from affordable stable Japanese dishes to high-quality sushi/sashimi to high-end omakase. No matter what your budget is, you will have an amazing experience. My gf and I were fortunate enough to be served by the chef himself. He is clearly passionate about his craft and his materials. Based on his recommendations, we ordered a squid salad and a Kobe beef miso ramen. The squid was extremely tasty and fresh. The beef though, was on another level...The chef used A5 grade beef and he was generous with the beef portion as well. My ramen bowl was full of meat with that melt-in-your-mouth beefy A5 flavor. What's better is that the bowl was only $29. I've been to restaurants where a single sampling size of the same beef with the same quality is already easily $5.While we were eating, the chef also received shipment from the fish delivery guy and we had the chance to take a quick sneak peek. The fish was extremely fresh and delivered whole. Chef said that they were imported straight from Japan. Although we didn't try the sushi this time, rest assured that any piece of sushi/sashimi that you taste in this restaurant is of the freshest quality and comes from fish that is butchered right here in the restaurant.I can't wait to come back for a more thorough deep-dive into what chef has to offer.

Don't let the office building facade fool you! Inside is a high end, beautiful restaurant. At close to 6 on a Saturday, I was surprised we were the only table, but a few more filled up as we dined. Pros: Peter, the owner and chef, greeted our table and told us his sushi specials, which are flown in special from Tokyo every Friday so they change weekly. We had the o-toro, chu-toro, aji, and fluke, and all were amazing quality and you got a lot of fish for the price. They have a lot of sushi combos and platters to service a variety of sizes of parties. We had the sushi combo which was plenty of fish, especially with the cut sizes. Wait staff was very attentive and helpful with the menu. Cons: the entrance is a little off putting but you shouldn't let that deter you. the french menu was lacking in my opinion. There is only one page of options, and we ended up not ordering anything french since the japanese was so appealing. I would've liked to see some seafood or more small plates. Overall the fish quality and piece sizes will keep me coming back! I definitely want to try some of the hot plate options as well. add it to your list!

I haven't even finished my dining experience and I'm already posting a review on YELP. RUN DON'T WALK TO MEGU! I can't believe this place exists in Fort Worth Texas. To start, Superb service! The owner warms your heart! Underrated indeed.. but this dining experience is truly a GEM! The ambiance is every bit elegant and is a hybrid of French and Japanese elements! Me and my family were very impressed overall, and will definitely be treating our visitors and friends to this incredible dining experience!

As others have said, an ambience is really odd. We were the only ones in the restaurant. The chef came over and was friendly but it started to get very strange at the end of the meal. They were out of some items that I tried to order. I don't think any one food group was well executed. Nothing tasted fresh. I was actually shocked we didn't get food poisoning although the saving grace could be that everything seemed so overly cooked. We ordered duck buns and the duck was like microwaved wood. The sushi had a very odd taste to it and tasted like cat fish. There was absolutely no skill in the slices of fish. They were either really thick or way too thin. Towards the end of the meal, the chef Sat in the corner and watched us eat. I hate to say this but I would not be back, nor could I recommend. It was a really cute idea and in theory seemed too good to be true, and it was.

Just to preface this - I'm a sushi snob. I grew up in Southern California where the sushi is always fresh. I'm also part Japanese! Lol. This place absolutely exceeded expectations. The location is a bit strange, but it makes for a more eclectic experience. The sashimi is super fresh and melts in your mouth like butter. It's honestly the best sushi I've had since being in Texas, and we will absolutely be back. The chef is super personable and an amazing human as well. Double thumbs up!

Great quality fish and food, attentive and personable service, and was set like a typical traditional Japanese restaurant. My husband and I went for a date night and were just really pleased with the overall experience.

** THIS PLACE IS BYOB!!! You have to bring your own booze as they do not sell any on site!!! ***I was looking for a different place for dinner, and found this while looking for French restaurants. Japanese and French? Weird, right? Yes.1) The restaurant is located in the sub-floor of an office building. It's small. While some of it is decorated nicely with unique wallpaper and stonework, the rest is bland - white walls, large windows covered by that opaque window coverings. Not much to look at as you face it. 2) We had reservations for Saturday night. You will not need reservations. Not many people there.3) No dress code. It doesn't feel upscale despite the prices. 4) Yes, the chef will greet you and talk to you at your table. We felt honored and he clearly has a lot of knowledge and pride in his place. 5) It's not a fusion place. They have 2 separate menu books. One Japanese, one French. 6) Service was, off. Our waiter was nice enough. But it was slow going. My wife ordered from the Japanese menu, I from the French. She got a lot of her food in 20 minutes. I didn't see anything for about 45. We overheard they only had one chef/cook working. Also, our waiter told us the Japanese names for the fish and the Japanese names of the CUTS of fish. Who is going to know or remember that? Talk about a niche clientele. 7) The food. The Japanese food is the highlight here. The seafood hot amd sour was nice, but we had to guess what seafood was in it. It's not listed and they don't tell you. Just an FYI if you have a shellfish allergy. We didn't which was good as it had clam in it, we think. The sushi/sashimi was excellent. But the large platter was supposed to have tuna rolls on it, it had crab instead. The "French" menu doesn't feel French to me. I had the onion soup, which was French onion soup, and it was amazing. I also had the curry puffs which were amazing- that batter was so light and airy and tasty. Loved that but, it came with pickled cuckeumber and it was hard/confusing - hard to put on your puffs or was it meant to be eaten separately?I ordered the Hawaiian crispy scallops as a main. Nothing French about this dish: it was swimming in a super sweet duck/general tsos sauce. There were 6 scallops, and while cooked nicely and I loved the crispy coating, that sauce overwhelmed everything. That could have been chicken in there and you'd never know. After the second one I looked down and thought "Geez I have to eat four more of these?" Not a thought you want spending big bucks on dinner. 2 people plus tip came to over $175.Here's my summary:New restaurant, quality chef, menu needs to be a single theme, needs its liquor license, atmosphere needs improvement. It's clearly a new place trying to find its feet. I wouldn't recommend it until it does.
