Hunan Wok

Old spot that definitely needs some updating and refreshing. The place definitely needs a deep cleaning. It's dimly lit and very quiet. No music or anything going on. The staff is friendly, but don't come check on you very often. The food is ok. The wonton soup needed extra salt for sure and was lukewarm. The eggrolls are standard package eggrolls and were served right out of the fryer. The orange beef was good and tender. The only problem is they don't offer much rice with your meal.

I've lived in NRH all of my life but have never been here before. My family came in on Christmas Day. While the place is disorganized and really needs updates, it wasn't dirty like some reviews have mentioned just messy. There was also no background noise so it was eerily quiet when we were there. We ordered a seafood plate, Empres chicken, house orange chicken and lo mein noodles. It was all really tasty. Don't let the other reviews scare you away, definitely try it for yourself but maybe order take out.

So I'm housesitting/dog sitting for a friend in NRH and asked her for a recommendation for takeout Chinese. Said that Hunan Wok wasn't bad and it was pretty close. Jumped in the car, ordered a couple of straight forward items and waited in the lobby. Beef fried rice was a generous serving and they remembered to add the broccoli that I requested ($2). Egg roll was crispy and warm but a bit small and the Hot and Sour soup was hot and tasty...they even remembered the little chips to add. Had enough rice for a second meal. While I was waiting, looked around the lobby and noticed lots of boxes and extras of many items, containers and such. Reminded me of every other neighborhood Chinese that I've visited and wondered why so many look like this. Food was hot and good, priced appropriately.

We have been going to this place for 15+ years and we know it's definitely not the best Chinese food ever, but it is pretty tasty. We did recently stop going as much because we had to do pick up instead of delivery recently and WOW the place is so dirty. If the cashier/lobby area is that unclean, what does the kitchen look like you know? Eek.

This is the first time in 30 years I had to give Hunan Wok a bad review. We used to eat here on a weekly basis we would dine in, have it delivered, and anytime there was a birthday we would come here to celebrate. The owner Tim would recognize my phone number and ask "The usual?" Then it was delivered; hot, fresh and delicious every time. Since Tim left it has slowly been going downhill, then tonight will be out last time to say goodbye. My egg drop soup was warm, not hot, the egg rolls were warmer but not hot, my entree-triple delight was not very hot either and the sweet tea not great either so I opted for a Dr. Pepper. There was 1 couple besides us, the table remained dirty for nearly 30 minutes and still not cleaned off when we left. But the kicker was this mess in the corner, right behind our booth. Why did we stay? Part of me wanted to leave but the other part wanted to stay because Hunan Wok has been a big part of our family for years. Don't let the pictures on their website fool you it's not like that anymore. Eat here at your own risk.

This place is dark and dirty, I took a group of residents there for lunch. The service was ok but they are clearly not prepared for dining in. The lighting was awful and this place needs a deep cleaning and fresh paint not to mention the fact that one of the front windows ia a piece of plywood. Not a good look. The food was ok we all have had better. This was a one off! I will not take my resident there again.

Haven't eaten at this restaurant in a few years and decided to go for lunch today. I walked up to the building and there is plywood covering one of the windows and the front doors are so filthy. Then I walked into the entry and the floors are filthy and there is trash and debris all over the carpet. Then you are hit with a foul odor. It's obvious that the owners take no pride in this restaurant what-so-ever . If the exterior of the building and entrance is this disgusting I would hate to see the kitchen and restrooms. I decided to walk right out of this place . I am surprised that the health department hasn't shut them down yet.

Ordered chicken fried rice, beef lo mein, Mongolian beef, and house orange chicken. The Mongolian beef should have been described as onions with a hint of beef. As seen in the photos the entire take out dish was filled with onions. Extreme let down when you're paying for a dish of meat. Also what part of that photo looks like lo mein? Yes the flavor was great but how can you pass those chow mein noodles off as lo mein? Fried rice was ok, not much flavor and the house orange chicken tasted more like sweet and sour chicken. Would not order take out again but possibly dine in.

I ordered House Fried chicken wings, fried wontons, sweet & sour shrimp & shrimp chow mein. I was hoping to have to have lunch & dinner for a couple of days. After three bites all the food had to be thrown out. The worst place & waste of a lot of monies!!'

I have been eating here over 29 years but I dont like to come any longer because this place is filthy. they have great food but i do lnt like eating in a place that is nasty. if they would remodel and clean the place up I am sure their business would boom.
