SOLID Soul Food!!! Building is a little intimidating, unmarked, screens on the windows and doors, but the inside is quaint and friendly....and the owner is a sweet lady with a friendly smile and great conversation....Tried a to go order of the neck bones with gravy (dont forget the gravy!!), greens, and black eye peas....the food was delicious!!! Greens may be some of the best I have had in years, and the peas were equally delicious...next time will try the ox tail...Hoberts is a bit off the beaten path for North Fort Worth and mid-cities residents...but worth a try if you are in the mood for good home cooking...soul food!!!

I just finished one of the best lunches I've had since my mother passed away. If you like good home cooking this is your place. Try the rice and gravy....the gravy...mmmmm! The cornbread was crusty and delicious as was EVERYTHING. I hope to enjoy many more lunches from Hobert Soul Food. A door knob would be tasty with that gravy!

The food was not warm at all. The strawberry cake was from a box. I do know what soul food is as I was born and bred in the birthplace of soul food...Mississippi. I have eaten at a LOT of soul food restaurants and this was the first time I received a box cake. I ordered baked chicken...bland but for the salty grayish white gravy that was poured over it. I also had the cabbage....zero thermal heat and the yams...sweet but not complex. The cornbread was room temperature and hard. The tea was syrupy sweet with very little tea flavor. This place was a huge disappointment. The only bonus is the portion size of the sides. Other than that, there were no pros. As the owner uncovered the sauce less pigs' feet, the dry neck bones and the heatless macaroni goulash, I apparently was rude because of my facial expression, I.e. I was shocked and fairly disgusted by the lackluster food appearance. I've never seen neck bones that aren't in their juices or pigs feet either!!!! Alas, my dear hubby is an eternal optimist and didn't want to be rude. So I went along and ordered, but barely picked at the baked chicken. The owner lectured me on my rudeness and how much I had to learn about life and how to talk and deal with people. I pointed out that I was an attorney and I deal with people all the time. However she raised her voice and told me about all FIVE of her degrees in engineering, business administration, etc. and who my law degree didn't mean anything to her. Lol... Looking back, I am sure her feelings were hurt as a result of my shock and disgust. Well, if the food was hot and actually flavorful (as true soul food is), there would be no reason to look shocked and disgusted. There is no excuse for a gravy that is salty and poured over just about every dish. If you are taking the money of the hard working people in that neighborhood, shouldn't you provide quality food? Not to mention it is fairly inexpensive commodity dishes that are being served! If your serving table is defective, care enough about your product and get another one that ensures the food is actually HOT!The food was of poor quality. The owner was rude and confrontational. I would not recommend this place.

If solely for the uniqueness of the offerings, this establishment gets a hands-down 5. I will say that non-piping-hot food is normally off-putting, but I mean... where else can you get pork neck bones? Where else can you get TWO scoops of hoppin' Johns for the unit (bartering system, folks) of ONE side.Apparently Hobert's has been aroud for 26 years, but there was not a soul in site. I think this is attributed to the fact that it sits on a very lonely section on Berry. Give it some traffic, people! The food is top notch. They are open 11AM-5:30PM EVERYDAY! There are many a church in the area, so you can assume that they serve up one mean "Sunday Lunch" for you Gospel-lovin' individuals. After worship, I get some serious munchies, too. You aren't alone. The food tops out around $9 a plate: 1 meat, 2 sides, cornbread, and a drank. The pork neck bones were phenomenal. Not too salty, a bit underseasoned if you will--I love to be dehydrated after I gorge myself on soul food. The black-eyed peas were savory and rich. The cabbage was not bitter and held on to just the right amount of crunch. The goulash (yes, the Hungarian specialty) was definitely not authentic. In fact, it was essentially what we in America know as Beef-a-Roni. The huge chunks of ground beef sat in a tomatoey, sweet sauce mixed in with some soft macaroni. All in all, special and fantastic. The mixed veggies were fine, and the okra was tender.I must touch on the cornbread, no? It was tender, hearty, and well-seasoned. Not too sweet, not too bland. "Just right", said Goldilocks.Fort Worth has a whole bunch of hole-in-the-walls, and Hobert's is no different, though it does sit by itself in a little house on E. Berry. Give it a shot, and I believe that you will definitely become a loyal of this grub shack. The people are extremely hospitable, to boot.

This is my least favorite soul food establishment. There are no menus, when you walk in your are bombarded with other companies advertisements. The food is not hot, and service is poor.

I was all set to love this place, but...Sadly, I was disappointed. Bland, gooey. It wouldn't take much to spiff the food up. I'd like to see a some more spice. I wish the potatoes were not instant. I wish the gravy was not gray. In fact, the whole steam table was shades of gray today. The restaurant itself: Clean and inviting in the entry, but...Should pay more attention to the details on the table -- like sticky salt shakers and ancient, reused, color-all-washed-out peppers in the pick a peppa sauce. Off-brand ketchup I never even heard of.The iron-clad store front makes it uninviting and hard to tell the restaurant is open. I wish for nothing but the best for these friendly, hard-working people. I'd love to re-visit in a few months and see if any changes are made.PS The cornbread was superior!

Possibly some of the worst food i've eaten since moving to the US but more than just the bad food the restaurant was pretty filthy. Dirty tablecloths, greasy plates, unwashed serving trays and the worst thing was the maggot i saw crawling serving tray. I was too grossed out to finish my meal of dry overcooked pork chop and bland black eyed peas. The candied yams had potential to be tasty except they were cold. Give this one a miss. Maggots... Ew just ew.

Ordered it on door dash and OMG was this food amazing. The pork chops was so tender they fell apart the gravy was very flavorful. The candied yams were just the right sweetness. The greens we're some of the best I've ever had. I give this food 7 out of 5 stars!
