If you have a little ones this is the perfect place to visit for a weekend adventure and learning experience. Learning the history of how fire trucks evolved was also fun for me as an adult. There is so much history lining the walls and the gentleman that was there was so knowledgeable and you can tell that he loves being able to share. One really cool thing is they have displays upstairs that that also shows how the equipment has evolved as well and it's pretty heavy. At the end of the experience, the kids left with a fire hat and an activity bag that was a sweet treat to end the visit.

This was our first visit to the Dallas Firefighters Museum. I brought my daughter and 9yo son with me on this visit. I was a little worried that my 9yo would get bored easily and loose interest, but that never happened. We were all fully engaged and found the entire visit educational and entertaining.Upon entering the building, we were warmly greeted by two former Firefighters. We paid the entry fee and signed the visitors book. Mike, also a former Firefighter, was our tour guide. He started the tour in the photo room area where he told us a few quick stories about some of the photos on the walls. He then took us inside where we were able to see and touch lots of artifacts and learn the stories behind them. It was fantastic! The entire tour was only my kids and I, so we felt like we received the VIP/Red Carpet experience. As we moved on to each section, Mike stopped and asked us if we had any questions, which we always did. Mike was very patient with us and extremely knowledgeable about everything we were looking at. The stories he told us were fun and interesting, he was fantastic with my 9yo son. 1/2 way through the tour, Mike took us into the theatre where we watched a cute kid friendly film on fire safety. This film was also a reminder to me of some things I do wrong in my own home such as overloading a power outlet. It also reminded me to sit down with my family to come up with a fire escape plan for our home.I highly recommend the Dallas Firefighters Museum because it's a great look at our past, as well as a brief look into what FireFighters go through to protect us and keep us safe. I give Mike 5 Stars because he is a great educator and did a great job keeping the tour fun, interesting, hands on, and engaging. The fact that he was able to even keep my 9yo engaged earns him another 5 Stars! We spent a couple hours here with Mike, and I could've listened to him all day. Thanks Mike!I highly recommend you check them out. There is something for everyone here. They have some future plans to expand the museum. It's exciting to see how they will grow.We will be back again in the future.

Luckily we were invited to our daughter's friend's birthday party here otherwise we would never have heard of it. This little gem is a must visit for any aspiring firefighter. This had been station #5 in the olden days. Full of old memorabilia, your little fire fighter can climb up in an old fire engine, pretend to drive the old, big hunk of machinery to a fire emergency. Be warned, when they discover how to ring the ole bell, you won't hear the end of it. The staff is friendly, eager to guide you through the history of this charming little museum. The parents of the birthday boy had heard of this place via the fire fest, a celebration for the kiddies where they close the street off and you can come for a day of fire festivities. We hope to have a chance to attend one day. If your kiddy wants to be a fireman when they grow up, this museum is a must for him or her!

Are you an off the beaten path city explorer? Is old and musty your go to vs new and sleek? If you are an avid former and not the latter then the Dallas Firefighter museum is a must do for you!As you enter the museum look immediately down. Handmade tiles from 1907 remind you where you are: Dallas Fire Department Hooks & Ladder #5. The welcome office is a lovely mix of old photos, t-shirts for purchase and if you are very lucky, a retired Captain of the Dallas Fire Department, Bubba. After you hand over your museum entry fee to Bubba (currently $6) he will ask: Would you like a tour? You are missing out if your answer is anything but Yes!Bubba's passion for the people of Dallas and especially his brothers in the DFD remains unchanged since his first station assignment in 1964. As Bubba guides you through the various fire trucks, pump carts & engines (yes, there is a difference just ask) on display ( one dating from 1897) Bubba intersperses equipment facts with real stories from his career. The stories alone are worth entry fee- however when combined with the up close and personal opportunity to see these vintage pieces of fire fighting history in a near original creaky stairs old station you will flash back to when you once dreamed of growing up to be a fireman and wonder what if. Don't miss the back stairs, designed with a crazy narrow tight turn with the thought being if station horses got out of their stalls they would not be able to make it up the stairs in search of their firemen. Of note: rumor has it the museum is to get an interior face lift soon. I hope not as the current touch and smell is welcome here displays are a large part of the draw. In any event- I would suggest visiting sooner than later.

I was under the impression that this museum was free (the google question and answer people said it was free and donations were accepted). 2 adults and 1 three year old we paid $12 not bad and completely worth it. My son had so much fun. The person in charge there gave us a brief history on the museum. He was so nice. There's jackets and helmets for kids to put on and you can get on some of the fire engines. It was a experience. I highly recommend this place specially for little ones.

The Dallas Firefighter's Museum is located in Dallas right across from Fair Park, so, if you know how to get to Fair Park, you can easily locate it.I'm always looking for new places to check out and the best places are usually the ones we pass by everyday and really never give a second thought about.Upon entering the museum, we were graciously greeted by the volunteer who happens to be a retired firefighter of 36 years. I didn't get his name, but, I will say, he was so kind and generous. The girls and I mainly did a self-guided tour of the facilities. We went to the 2nd floor and saw the main artifacts which are well recorded and preserved in this awesome museum.Being that this building is over one hundred years old, you'd expect something rickety or the other extreme, overly updated. Well, that isn't the case here. Everything is really nice and holds the feeling of awesomeness.I would suggest this museum to most of my friends with children. If you have an interest in Dallas history or an appreciation for the preservation of antiquity and oral history, check this out.If you're trying to waste time and get out of the heat, well, I would suggest you go to Walmart or something. This place isn't a waste of time, it's a treat!
