Absolutely loved our visit to the museum! My husband was born and raised in McKinney and it was his birthday so what better way to celebrate than to go reminisce about his/our history. Actually got to spend some time with the director, she was so sweet and was interested in our stories. If you have questions or want to just learn more about the area please stop by.

What a nice surprise to find the Collin County History Museum! The Then & Now exhibit is extremely well curated - the technology used to tour the museum is very impressive! We were warmly greeted upon arrival and, when we were ready to leave, had a great conversation with a staff (volunteer?) about museums related events.

I really like the way this museum has evolved. This museum is really reaching out to the community to reflect on a shared experience, as opposed to just "talking at you". The current administration has really gained a lot of focus. The museum used to be a lot like my grandmother's attic, no offense meant to the folks who worked so hard to keep it going back then. Now, the whole museum focuses on a single-themed exhibit at a time and the artifacts are relevant and meaningful within the context of the exhibit. For instance, this past spring's exhibit was about the Civil War. All of the exhibits told a piece of Collin County's and Texas's part in that history. In the basement, they had a hands-on exhibit where you could pick up examples of the guns they carried. (They were a lot heavier than I expected them to be). They are very kid-centric. This museum has always been a big field trip destination and they have had "Hank the Cowdog" in a couple of times to tell stories to the kids on the weekends. I think that that is a regular thing. They also schedule lectures for adults on varied themes.

The Collin County History Museum is a unique display of buildings and businesses that were in existence years ago with the technology showing, via ipads, what they look like today. It's open Thursday, Friday & Saturday and the staff is pleasant and informative.

We really enjoyed our visit to this museum. The "McKinney Then and Now" exhibit was interactive and fun for the kids. The staff gave us a tablet and showed us how to point the tablet at pictures of McKinney from the past, and the tablet would display a picture of the same business or landmark as it appears now. Very cool! There were also QR codes throughout that would connect to videos about McKinney's history. We also enjoyed the short films about the big tornado and Collin McKinney. The museum is a great stop if you're in the area!
